Overview

This document is an installation manual for Daikin ceiling-mounted duct type split system air conditioners, specifically models FBQ18TBVJU, FBQ24TBVJU, FBQ30TBVJU, FBQ36TBVJU, FBQ42TBVJU, and FBQ48TBVJU. It provides detailed instructions for safe and proper installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Daikin split system air conditioners are designed for indoor installation, with outdoor units that can be installed either outdoors or indoors. They function as either air conditioners or heat pumps, providing cooling and heating capabilities. The units are designed to spread cool and warm air evenly throughout a room, ensuring comfort. They are equipped with features for external static pressure adjustment and can be controlled via wired or wireless remote controllers. The system is designed for use with R410A refrigerant.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Refrigerant: R410A. The system requires clean, dry, and tight refrigerant piping. If additional refrigerant is needed, it must be charged in its liquid state due to R410A being a blend.
  • Design Pressure: 580 psi (4.0 MPa). Field-installed pipes must have wall thickness selected in accordance with this design pressure and relevant local, state, and national regulations.
  • Power Supply: Single phase 208/230V, 60Hz. A separate power supply circuit is required for the unit, and all electrical work must comply with local, state, and national regulations.
  • Piping Sizes:
    • Liquid piping: φ3/8 in. (9.5 mm)
    • Gas piping: φ5/8 in. (15.9 mm)
  • Flare Nut Tightening Torques:
    • φ3/8 in. (9.5 mm): 24.1-29.4 lbf-ft. (36.3±3.6 N·m)
    • φ5/8 in. (15.9 mm): 45.6-55.6 lbf-ft. (68.6±6.8 N·m)
  • Flare Dimensions:
    • φ3/8 in. (9.5 mm): 0.504-0.520 in. (13.0±0.2 mm)
    • φ5/8 in. (15.9 mm): 0.760-0.776 in. (19.5±0.2 mm)
  • Drain Piping: Nominal diameter 13/16 in. (25 mm), outside diameter 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) polyvinyl chloride piping. Must be installed with a downward inclination of 1/100 or more.
  • Drain Hose Metal Clamp Tightening Torque: 0.9-1.1 lbf-ft. (1.2-1.5 N·m).
  • Remote Controller Wiring: Sheathed vinyl cord or 2 core cable, AWG 18-16 (0.75-1.25 mm²), max. 328 ft. (100 m) length. No polarity for remote controller and transmission wiring.
  • External Contact Specification (for Forced OFF/ON/OFF Operation): Contact that can make and break the min. load of DC 15 V, 1 mA.
  • Insulation: Both gas and liquid refrigerant piping must be securely insulated to prevent water leakage. Gas piping insulation material must withstand temperatures of not less than 250°F (120°C). For high humidity environments, stronger insulation is recommended. Additional insulation (glass wool or polyethylene, 3/8 in. (10 mm) or more thick) may be required for the indoor unit if ceiling temperature and humidity exceed 86°F (30°C), RH80%.

Usage Features

  • Remote Control: The unit requires a remote controller (wired or wireless type). The manual provides instructions for connecting and setting up both single and dual remote controller configurations (Main and Sub).
  • External Static Pressure Setting: The indoor unit is factory-set to standard external static pressure. If the required external static pressure is higher or lower, it can be adjusted using the remote controller. The manual details settings for various static pressures (e.g., 0.20 inWG to 0.80 inWG).
  • Air Volume Automatic Adjustment: The system can automatically adjust air volume to the rated air volume. This feature requires specific field settings via the remote controller.
  • Forced OFF/ON/OFF Operation: The unit supports external input for forced OFF or ON/OFF operation, configurable via remote controller settings.
  • Fan Speed Setting: Fan speed can be set during thermostat OFF mode (e.g., cooling or heating) to "LL (Extra low)" or other settings, adjustable via the remote controller.
  • Filter Sign: The remote controller can display a message indicating when the air filter needs cleaning, with settings for normal (approx. 2500 hrs) or more contaminated (approx. 1250 hrs) environments.
  • Thermostat Differential: Adjustable for remote sensor usage.
  • Dry Mode Set Temperature: Can be changed from room temperature to "Same as cooling mode set temperature."

Maintenance Features

  • Easy Access: The control box cover, air filter, and suction grille are designed for attachment and removal, facilitating maintenance. For some models, maintenance of the control box through the side is available, while bottom access is not.
  • Drainage Check: The manual provides instructions for checking drain flow by pouring water into the drain pan and observing drainage through an inspection window or transparent part of the drain socket.
  • Troubleshooting: The remote controller operation lamp flashes to indicate abnormalities, and malfunction codes are described in the operation manual to aid in diagnosing issues. Specific indications for wiring errors or power supply disconnections are provided.
  • Installation Checks: A comprehensive checklist is provided for post-installation checks, covering aspects like rigid fixation, airtightness of refrigerant piping, insulation, smooth drain flow, correct power supply voltage, and proper wiring.
  • Delivery Checks: A checklist for items to be checked at delivery, including field settings, attachment of covers and grilles, proper air discharge, noise levels, and customer instruction on operation and maintenance.
  • Component Protection: Instructions emphasize protecting internal components (e.g., resin drain pan) from weld spatter and foreign materials during installation.
  • Safety Guidelines: Extensive safety considerations are provided, including warnings about refrigerant leakage, electric shock, fire, and proper handling of materials and tools. It highlights the importance of qualified personnel for installation and adherence to local regulations.
