Function Description

The DECT Base Station serves as a central hub for wireless communication, primarily connecting a DECT headset to a desk phone or a PC. It enables users to make and receive calls wirelessly, offering flexibility and mobility. The base station supports both traditional desk phone connections and modern softphone applications on a PC, making it versatile for different communication environments. It also features Bluetooth connectivity, allowing it to pair with smartphones or other Bluetooth devices for calls.

BusyLight: An indicator light that signals call status.
DL-570 Lifter: A device that remotely lifts the desk phone handset to answer or make calls.

Electronic Hook Switch (EHS): An adapter that enables answering or ending calls using the On/Off switch on the headset, compatible with certain telephone systems. Users are advised to refer to the EHS guide or contact their local distributor for compatibility information.

Headset Features

Attaching the Headband: The headband fits onto the headset, and the microphone boom arm rotates to the desired position.
Microphone Positioning: The microphone should be positioned at the corner of the mouth, about an inch from the face, with the side pointed towards the mouth.
Speaker Volume Control: A volume switch on the headset allows users to increase (tilt towards 'plus') or decrease (tilt towards 'minus') the speaker volume.
Microphone Mute: Pressing the volume switch activates the microphone mute mode.

Base Unit Features (Front & Left Side)

Bluetooth Connection Button: This function is available on DW-780B and DW-780UB models. When pressed, the blue LED blinks, indicating Bluetooth pairing mode.
PC/TEL Selection Button: This function is available on DW-780U and DW-780UB models. It switches between PC and telephone connection modes.
Microphone Mute Button: A touch-sensitive button to mute calls.
Microphone Volume Control: Allows adjustment of the microphone volume for optimal sound quality when connected.
Compatibility Switch: Select '1' or '2' until a dial tone is heard via the telephone connection.
USB Port: For PC connection via a USB cable.
External Ring On/Off: An external ring alert for incoming calls when using softphones (PC mode only).

Base Unit Features (Back Side)

BusyLight Jack: Connects the optional BusyLight plug.
DC Jack: Connects the power adapter.
AUX Port: Connection for the Handset Lifter or EHS Adapter (optional extra).
Telephone Port: Connects the telephone cord to the headset port or handset port.
Handset Port: Plugs the handset cord from the phone to the Handset port.

Visual Indicators (LED Status)

The base station and headset use LEDs to indicate various statuses:

Charging Status:
- Charging: Red LED 'ON' (Headset), White (Base)
- Full Charged: Blue LED 'ON' (Headset), White (Base)
- Low Battery: Blinking in White (Base)
- Incoming Call: Blinking in Green (Base)
Event-Based LED Status:
- Press Microphone mute: Mute indicator 'ON'
- Press PC/TEL selection: PC/TEL Indicator - TEL: 'OFF', PC: 'ON'
- Bluetooth Connection:
  - Pairing mode: Blinking
  - Connected: 'ON'
  - Disconnected: 'OFF'
- Hook Off:
  - BASE: Transparent Window - Green
  - Headset: Blue LED blinks twice every 3 seconds

Audio Indicators (Sound Effects)

The device provides audio cues for different events:

Speaker/Microphone Volume: Beep Sound 'UP' (High tone) for increase, 'DOWN' (Low Tone) for decrease.
Max/Min Speaker Volume: Double beep.
Max/Min Microphone Volume: Double beep.
Microphone Mute/Unmute: Mute: beep, Unmute: Double beep.
Mute Reminder: Beep every 5 seconds.
Hook Off / On: Hook Off: Double beep (High tone), Hook On: Double beep (Low tone).

Setup Instructions

Desk Phone with Headset Port:
1. Plug the supplied telephone cord into the TEL port of the BASE Unit.
2. Connect the telephone cord to the HEADSET port of the desk phone.
Desk Phone without Headset Port:
1. On the desk phone, unplug the handset cable from the phone.
2. Plug the handset cable into the HANDSET port on the BASE.
3. Plug the telephone cord into the TEL port on the BASE unit and plug the other end of the telephone cord into the HANDSET port on the desk phone.

Operating Instructions

Plug the Power Adapter DC Jack into the back of the Base Unit.
Press the Hook On/Off switch to make a call.
Select compatibility switch '1' or '2' position until a dial tone is heard.
Adjust speaker and microphone volume.
Press the Hook On/Off switch to end a call.

Pairing (Factory Default Setup)

Place the headset on the cradle.
Plug the power adapter into the base unit (pairing proceeds automatically, Tel indicator blinks).
Press the 'mute button' of the headset until its LED blinks.
Upon successful pairing, a beep sound is heard, and LEDs of the base and headset turn off.

Connecting to a PC

Plug the USB cable into the port on the left side of the base unit.
Connect the USB cable to any free USB port on the PC.

SoftLink Compatibility

The DW-780 is optimized for various softphones, including Skype for Business, Skype, Broadsoft UC-Client, Avaya One-X agent, One-X Communicator, Cisco Jabber, Bria(X-Lite), Mitel Micollab, and 3CX softphones with SoftLink. SoftLink is PC software that enables USB devices to have Remote Call Control over these softphones.

Bluetooth Usage

Press the Bluetooth mode button on the base unit (blue LED blinks, indicating pairing mode).
Put the other Bluetooth device (smartphone, PC, etc.) into pairing mode.
On the other Bluetooth device, find "DW-780B(xxxx)" and select it to complete pairing.
After pairing, "DW-780B(xxxx)" should be selected on other Bluetooth devices.
Incoming Call: During idle, the blue LED blinks, and a ring beep is heard on the headset.
Answering a Call: Press the hook button on the headset.
Ending a Call: Press the hook button on the headset.
Making a Call: When a user makes a Bluetooth call on a smartphone, the blue LED blinks, and a call processing beep is heard. The Bluetooth call automatically connects after the other party answers.

Maintenance Features (Troubleshooting)

The manual provides solutions for common issues:

Cannot hear a dial tone:
- Check TEL/PC button (TEL Mote: PC/TEL indicator – 'OFF').
- Verify cable connections between Base Unit and Phone.
- Ensure power adapter is plugged in and has power.
- Adjust the compatibility switch until a dial tone is heard.
Microphone volume (TX) is low / dead:
- Confirm microphone (TX) mute function is deactivated.
- Check microphone boom arm position (approx. 2 fingers distance from mouth).
- Adjust microphone (TX) volume on the bottom of the base unit.
Buzzing sound on the headset:
- Move the base unit at least 30 cm/12" away from the phone to mitigate radio transmission interference.
Headset echoes:
- Adjust the telephone's volume.
- If necessary, adjust the microphone volume on the headset to a lower setting.
EHS doesn't work with the telephone:
- Ensure the telephone is compatible with the wireless headset (refer to EHS guide).
Headset was working, but it has stopped:
- Headset may need re-pairing to the base (refer to 'Note 1' on 'Operating Instruction').
- Headset battery may be dead; return the headset to the cradle for charging.

FCC Warning and RF Exposure Information

The device complies with Part 15 of FCC Rules, allowing operation under two conditions: no harmful interference, and acceptance of any received interference.
Any changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
The equipment has been tested and found to comply with Class B digital device limits, designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation.
For Handset: It is a radio transmitter and receiver designed not to exceed FCC emission limits for RF energy. It complies with safety standards for uncontrolled environment/general population exposure limits (SAR) and has been tested according to FCC/OET Bulletin 65 Supplement C (2001) and IEEE 1528. The handset and its antenna must not be co-located or operating with any other antenna or transmitter.
For Base: It complies with FCC radiation exposure limits for an uncontrolled environment. It should be installed and operated with a minimum distance of 20cm between the radiator and the user's body. The transmitter must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.

Warranty Information

A warranty card is included, requiring the user to fill in details such as name, telephone number, address, model number, brand, serial number, invoice number, dealer, and date of purchase. The warranty card will be void if not mailed back to the company within 10 days from the date of purchase. Warranty conditions are to be found on the overleaf of the card.
