Overview

This document is the user manual for the BM-148 Baby Monitor, a 2.4GHz Digital Wireless Baby Monitor designed to provide audio monitoring and two-way communication between a parent unit and a baby unit.

Function Description:

The BM-148 Baby Monitor allows parents to monitor their baby from a distance. It features both LCD and LED indicator versions for the parent and baby units. The core function is to transmit sound from the baby unit to the parent unit, enabling parents to hear their baby. Additionally, it supports two-way communication, allowing parents to talk to their baby through the parent unit. The monitor also includes a music play function to lull the baby to sleep, with six selectable melodies or a continuous loop of all melodies. It incorporates various alert features such as low battery alerts, out-of-range alerts, and a call function to page the other unit. The system utilizes a digital wireless connection with over 65,000 ID codes to ensure privacy and minimize interference.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply Voltage:
    • Parent unit: 3 AAA batteries (or rechargeable batteries) & AC adaptor (AC120V, DC 7.5V)
    • Baby unit: 3 AAA batteries (or rechargeable batteries) & AC adaptor (AC120V, DC 7.5V)
  • Operation Frequency: 2.401~2.482GHz
  • Operating Range: Up to 300m in ideal conditions (communication range may vary depending on surrounding conditions, physical obstructions, and interference).
  • Microphone Sensitivity: 1 to 2 meters (adjustable via SENSITIVITY switch on the baby unit).
  • ID Codes: More than 65,000 ID codes for privacy protection and interference reduction.

Usage Features:

  • Power On/Off: Units are turned on by rotating the power and volume control upward until a click is heard, and off by rotating it downward.
  • Volume Adjustment: The power and volume control knob on the parent unit also adjusts the desired volume level, increasing when turned upward and decreasing when turned downward.
  • Two-Way Communication (Talk to Baby): The parent unit has a "TALK" key. Pressing and holding this key allows the parent to speak to the baby through the baby unit. Releasing the key returns the parent unit to receiving status.
  • Music Play & Select Music: A "Music Play and Control" key on the parent unit activates the music function. Pressing it for about 3 seconds starts Music 1 automatically. Subsequent presses (briefly) change the melody (01-06 or AL for all music loop). Pressing it for 2 seconds again turns off the music function. Music can be played by the baby unit even when the parent unit is off.
  • Sensitivity Level Adjustment (Baby Unit): A "SENSITIVITY" slide switch (Lo/Hi) in the baby unit's battery compartment adjusts the sound detection level. "Lo" (normal sensitivity) is for 1-2 meters, and "Hi" (high sensitivity) is for 2-6 meters. The default setting is "Lo".
  • Call Function: Both units have a "PAGE" key. Pressing it once sends a call ring tone to the other unit. The calling unit will emit three "BiBi" sounds.
  • Key Lock/Unlock: A switch on the side of the unit (UNLOCK/LOCK) allows users to lock the "TALK", "PAGE", and "MUSIC" keys to prevent accidental presses.
  • Belt Clip: Both parent and baby units are equipped with a belt clip for portability.
  • ID Code Scanning (LINK key): The "LINK" key, located at the bottom of both units, is used to reset and scan for a new corresponding ID code. This is useful for establishing a connection between units or resolving interference issues. The units automatically scan for a corresponding code upon first use.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Installation: Requires 3 AAA batteries for each unit. Users are instructed to insert batteries according to polarity markings. Rechargeable batteries are recommended.
  • Battery Charging: The supplied rechargeable batteries must be charged before first use. Charging takes approximately 12 hours when the unit is turned off. The units display low battery alerts (flashing Red light on LED version, flashing battery icon on LCD version, and an alert tone on the parent unit) when power is low.
  • AC Adaptor Usage: The units can be powered directly by the supplied AC adaptors. It is recommended to turn off units before plugging in or unplugging adaptors. Only the specified adaptors should be used.
  • Cleaning: Use a damp cloth for cleaning; avoid liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Battery Disposal: Batteries with Pb, Cd, or Hg symbols should not be disposed of in general domestic waste. They should be taken to a collecting point for old batteries or returned to the dealer for safe disposal.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common problems such as no power, message not transmitted, no sound signal, received conversation from neighbors, and static/rustle from the parent unit. Solutions often involve checking power, battery status, unit range, sensitivity settings, key lock status, and scanning for new ID codes.

Safety Precautions:

The manual emphasizes several safety precautions:

  • Read and understand all instructions.
  • Follow all warnings and instructions.
  • Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners; use a damp cloth.
  • Avoid using near water.
  • Place units securely on a stable surface.
  • Do not cover ventilation slots.
  • Install units where cords won't be tripped over.

  • Do not disassemble the unit; refer to authorized service centers for repairs.
  • Avoid exposing units to extreme temperatures.
  • Do not place lighted objects (candles, cigarettes) on the unit.
  • Caution: This product is an aid and cannot replace responsible adult supervision. It is not a medical monitor.
  • Keep parent unit and adaptor cables out of child's reach. Do not place the baby unit inside the baby's crib or playpen.
  • Warning: Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture to prevent fire or electrical shock.
  • Battery Safety: Disconnect units and remove batteries if not in use for a long time. Dispose of batteries safely. Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged. Rechargeable batteries must be charged under adult supervision. Replace batteries only with the specified type (TSUEN SHING, BT-101-AC) to avoid explosion risk.
  • Privacy Protection: Be aware that the monitor uses public airwaves, and sounds may be broadcast to other receiving devices. Always turn off the system when not in use. Use the LINK key to change ID codes if interference is experienced.
