MAN-PTS-GB, Revision 9, BSC, 15-FEB-2017 28/46
The PTS requires only limited maintenance due to its sturdy and reliable design.
Standard maintenance consists mainly of inspecting and cleaning the parts which are in
contact with the product (PTS chamber, valves, PTS filter, safety filter and vacuum pump) at
regular intervals. The inspection and cleaning frequency depends mainly on the type of process
and the characteristics of the product.
The PTS filter membrane must be exchanged as soon as the transfer capacity decreases or when
a large quantity of fine powder passes through the filter.
The lifetime of a PTS filter is difficult to predict and depends essentially on the type of powder
transferred and the duration of the operation. The exchange frequency should be determined
according to local conditions and frequent controls.
The correct operation as well as the tightness of the inlet and outlet valves must be controlled
frequently. The life time of the valve gasket depends mainly on the type of powder and the
number of cycles. The gasket must be replaced as soon as the valve is leaking
A spare parts list with the frequency of exchange and maintenance instructions is given in the
technical documentation for each component.
6.5 REPAIRS
The PTS system consists of robust components, designed for the concerned products.
However, if damage is found on one of the components, it is imperative to seek the origin of
these before you replace or repair the damaged component.
In order to guarantee the correct operation of the installation only manufacturer specified parts
may be used in case repairs or the replacement of a part are necessary. The manufacturer's
prior written permission is required concerning the selection of components, welding on the
chamber or any other repairs carried out on the system.
If by error the PTS system should be subjected to an over pressure or an over temperature the
installation should be re-inspected by an expert before being started up again.
