Overview

This document is a user manual for the Decakila KUCF009B Pump Espresso Coffee Machine. It provides comprehensive instructions on how to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the device, ensuring users can make espresso, hot water, and cappuccino/frothed milk effectively.

Function Description

The Decakila KUCF009B is a pump espresso coffee machine designed for household use. Its primary function is to brew espresso coffee, but it also features capabilities for making hot water and frothing milk for cappuccinos. The machine operates by pumping water through ground coffee at high pressure to extract flavor. It includes a water tank, a metal funnel with a steel mesh for coffee grounds, a steam wand for frothing milk, and various indicators and switches to control its functions. The appliance is designed to be user-friendly, with clear controls for power, coffee brewing, and steam generation.

Usage Features

Before First Use: To ensure optimal coffee taste, the machine should be rinsed with warm water. This involves filling the water tank (not exceeding the "MAX" mark), placing a steel mesh (without coffee) into the metal funnel, and positioning a jug on the removable shelf. The steam control knob must be in the "OFF" position. After connecting to power, pressing the "ON/OFF" switch will cause the indicator to flash. Pressing the coffee switch will activate the pump, allowing water to flow out. The pump stops when the coffee switch is pressed again. If the steam switch selector is pressed, the appliance pre-heats, and the steam light flashes until illuminated. Once water stops dripping, the containers should be cleaned.

Pre-Heating: For a good hot espresso, pre-heating the appliance, including the funnel, filter, and cup, is recommended to prevent cold parts from affecting coffee flavor.

  1. Remove the detachable tank, fill it with water (not exceeding "MAX"), and replace it properly.
  2. Select the steam mesh, set it into the metal funnel, align the tube with the groove, and insert the funnel into the appliance from the "Insert" position, then turn it anticlockwise to the "Lock" position.
  3. Place an espresso cup on the removable shelf.
  4. Connect to power, ensuring the steam control knob is "OFF."
  5. Pressing the "ON/OFF" switch once will make the power indicator flash. After pre-heating, it lights solidly. Pressing the coffee switch will cause water to flow out; press it again to stop. If the lamp in the power switch is flashing, the appliance is pre-heating. When it's illuminated, pressing the coffee switch will release hot water.

Making Espresso:

  1. Remove the funnel by turning it clockwise. Add ground coffee to the steel mesh using the measuring spoon (one spoon for one cup) and tamp it tightly.
  2. Set the steel mesh into the metal funnel, align the tube with the groove, insert the funnel from the "Insert" position, and turn it anticlockwise to the "Lock" position.
  3. Warm the cup by pouring hot water into it, then empty and dry it, placing it on the removable shelf.
  4. Ensure the lamp in the power switch is illuminated (if flashing, wait). Press the coffee switch to start coffee flow. Press it again when the desired amount is reached to stop the pump. Warning: Do not leave the coffee maker unattended during brewing, as manual operation is sometimes required. After brewing:
  5. Remove the metal funnel by turning it clockwise and discard coffee residue.
  6. Allow parts to cool, then rinse under running water.
  7. Brewing time is a maximum of 180 seconds. If needed, sort out the power outage and press the power button again to restart.

Making Hot Water: Once pre-heating is complete and the power indicator is solid, press the coffee switch to start the water pump. Turn the knob to "Hot water," and hot water will flow from the steam pipe. Press the coffee switch again to stop. Hot water can be used for warming cups, making tea, or cooling the appliance. The maximum working time for hot water is 180 seconds.

Making Cappuccino/Frothed Milk:

  1. Prepare espresso in a container large enough, ensuring the steam control knob is in the "o" position.
  2. Press the steam switch selector; its lamp will flash until illuminated. Note: During operation, the coffee maker heats on and off to maintain temperature.
  3. Fill a jug with about 100 ml of whole milk (refrigerator temperature) per cappuccino. The jug diameter should be at least 70±5mm, as milk volume increases by 2 times.
  4. Slowly turn the steam control knob anti-clockwise to release steam from the frothing device. Note: Do not turn the steam control button rapidly, as rapid steam accumulation can increase explosion risk.
  5. Insert the frothing device about two centimeters into the milk, moving the vessel up and down to froth.
  6. Once desired froth is achieved, turn the steam control knob to "o" position. Note: Clean the steam outlet with a wet sponge immediately after steam stops, being careful not to get burned.
  7. Pour frothed milk into the prepared espresso. Sweeten to taste and sprinkle with cocoa powder if desired.
  8. Press the Power switch to cut off power. If coffee and steam indicators blink fast after using the "Steam" function, the appliance is too hot and needs to be turned off for 5 minutes, or the "Hot water" function can be activated to cool it down.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning and Maintenance:

  1. Cut off power and allow the coffee maker to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Clean the housing with a moisture-proof sponge.
  3. Regularly clean the water tank, drip tray, and removable shelf, then dry them. Note: Do not clean with alcohol or solvent cleanser. Never immerse the housing in water.
  4. Detach the metal funnel by turning it clockwise, remove coffee residue, clean with cleanser, and rinse with clear water.
  5. Clean all attachments in water and dry thoroughly.

Cleaning Mineral Deposits (Descaling):

  1. Fill the tank with water and descaler to the MAX level (4:1 ratio of water to descaler, or use citric acid: 100 parts water to 3 parts citric acid).
  2. Place the metal funnel (without coffee) and a jug in place, following "PRE-HEATING" instructions for brewing water.
  3. Press the power switch once; when its red lamp flashes, press the coffee switch (coffee/steam selector). When water flows out, close the pump and wait for the coffee maker to heat.
  4. When the power switch lamp is illuminated, heating is finished. Press the coffee switch to make two cups of coffee (about 2 Oz), then close the pump and wait for 5 seconds.
  5. Press the steam selector; its indicator will flash until illuminated. Make steam for 2 minutes by turning the steam control knob, then turn it to "o" to stop. Press the Power switch to stop the unit immediately, allowing descaler to deposit for at least 15 minutes.
  6. Restart the unit and repeat steps 4-6 at least 3 times.
  7. Press the coffee/steam selector; when the coffee switch lamp is illuminated, press the coffee switch to brew until no descaler is left.
  8. Brew coffee (without powder) with tap water to the MAX level, repeating steps 4-6 for 3 times (without the 15-minute wait in step 6), then brew until no water is left in the tank.
  9. Repeat step 9 at least 3 times to ensure piping is clean.
  10. To cancel the descaling warning: Under standby mode, hold and press the coffee switch and steam switch simultaneously for 3 seconds. Their indicators will blink 3 times, indicating the warning is canceled and the working cycle is zeroed.

Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting section with common symptoms, their causes, and corrections. For example:

  • Rust on metal parts in the tank: Caused by using an unrecommended descaler. Correction: Use the manufacturer-recommended descaler.
  • Water leaks from the bottom: Caused by too much water in the drip tray or a malfunction. Correction: Clean the drip tray or contact authorized service facility.
  • Water leaks from outer side of filter: Caused by coffee powder on the filter edge. Correction: Remove powder.
  • Acid (vinegar) taste in espresso: Caused by incorrect cleaning after descaling. Correction: Clean the coffee maker several times as per "before the first use" instructions.
  • Coffee powder stored in hot, wet place / turns bad: Causes bad taste. Correction: Use fresh coffee powder, store unused powder in a cool, dry place, reseal opened packages tightly, and store in a refrigerator.
  • Coffee maker not working: Power outlet not plugged in well. Correction: Plug in correctly or contact service facility.
  • Steam not frothing: Steam ready indicator not illuminated, container too big/wrong shape, or skimmed milk used. Correction: Wait for indicator to illuminate, use a high and narrow cup, or use whole/half-skimmed milk.

Environment Friendly Disposal: Users are advised not to disassemble the appliance themselves if the cause of failure is unknown, but to contact a certified service center. For disposal, users should respect local regulations and hand in non-working electrical equipment to an appropriate waste disposal center to protect the environment.
