Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Defy DBO467-Black and DBO468-Mirror Gemini Gourmet Multifunction Double Oven.

Function Description

The Defy Gemini Gourmet Multifunction Double Oven is designed for baking, roasting, and grilling. It features a top oven and a bottom oven, each with various operating modes and controls. The oven is equipped with pop-out knobs for setting functions and temperature. A cooling fan is integrated into the appliance to cool both the built-in cabinet and the front of the appliance. The oven light is controlled by the multifunction selector switch.

Operating Modes:

The oven offers several operating modes, which may vary in arrangement on the product:

  • Operating with fan: The oven is not heated; only the fan in the rear wall operates. This mode is suitable for thawing frozen granular food slowly at room temperature and cooling down cooked food.
  • Top and bottom heating (Static): Food is heated simultaneously from the top and bottom. This mode is suitable for cakes, pastries, or casseroles in baking moulds, for cooking with one shelf only.
  • Fan assisted heating: Warm air heated by the top and bottom heater is evenly distributed throughout the oven by the fan. This mode is suitable for cooking meals on different shelf levels and for cooking with two shelves.
  • Thermofan heating: Warm air heated by the rear heater is evenly distributed throughout the oven by the fan. This mode is suitable for cooking meals on different rack levels, often without preheating, and for cooking with two shelves.
  • Bottom heating: Only bottom heating is in operation. This mode is suitable for pizza and for subsequent browning of food from the bottom.
  • Turbo Grill: Grilling effect is not as strong as in Full Grill. Use for small or medium-sized portions under the grill heater.
  • Full grill: The large grill at the ceiling of the oven is in operation, suitable for grilling large amounts of meat. Set temperature to maximum level.
  • Grill (Static): Grilling effect is not as strong as in Full Grill. Use for small or medium-sized portions under the grill heater.
  • "3D" function: Top heating, bottom heating, and fan-assisted heating are all in operation. Food is cooked evenly and quickly all around, suitable for cooking with one shelf only.

Usage Features

  • Oven Controls: The oven features a top oven selector and oven thermostat, and a bottom oven multifunction selector and oven thermostat. There is also a digital timer display for the bottom oven only.
  • Rack Positions: The manual emphasizes correct placement of wire shelves between side racks, ensuring they do not stand against the rear wall of the oven for good grill performance.
  • Baking Tips: Use non-sticky coated metal plates, aluminum vessels, or heat-resistant silicone moulds. Place baking moulds in the middle of the shelf. Select the correct shelf runner position before turning on the oven or grill, and avoid changing it when the oven is hot. Keep the oven door closed.
  • Roasting Tips: Dress whole chicken, turkey, and large pieces of meat with lemon juice and black pepper to enhance cooking performance. Roasting meat with bones takes longer. Allow 4-5 minutes per centimeter of meat thickness. Leave meat in the oven for about 10 minutes after cooking to distribute juices.
  • Grilling Tips: Grill meat, fish, poultry, and high-water-content vegetables (tomatoes, onions). Distribute items on the wire shelf or baking tray so they do not exceed the grill element size. If grilling on a wire shelf, place a baking tray on the lower rack to collect fats and add water for easy cleaning. Avoid placing food too far back under the grill to prevent fire risk from fatty foods.
  • Oven Clock Functions (Bottom Oven Only):
    • Setting Cooking Duration: Program the bottom oven to turn off automatically after a set time (max 5 hours 59 minutes). The display counts down, and a symbol visualizes progress. An audible signal sounds for 2 minutes when completed.
    • Setting Oven to Cook at a Later Time: After setting the cooking duration, the bottom oven can be programmed to finish cooking at a specific later time.
    • Activating Keylock: Prevents unintended operation. The keylock symbol appears on the display when active.
    • Setting Alarm Clock: Set an audible alarm for a specific time.
    • Changing Alarm Tone: Select from different alarm tones.
    • Changing Time of Day: Adjust the current time displayed.
    • Economy Mode: Saves energy by switching off heaters before the end of cooking time, using residual heat. Can be enabled or disabled.
    • Setting Screen Brightness: Adjust the display brightness.

Maintenance Features

  • General Cleaning: Disconnect the appliance from mains before cleaning. Clean the oven with a damp, hot soapy cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, sharp metal scrapers, and steam cleaners. For stubborn stains, use a mild liquid cleaner or baking soda paste. Ensure all ventilation slots are clear.
  • Removing the Oven Door Glass: The inner glass panel of the upper oven door can be removed for cleaning. This involves removing screws, pulling out the glass, and then refitting it.
  • Replacing the Oven Light Bulb: The oven lamp is a special electric light bulb (resistant up to 300°C). Before replacing, disconnect the appliance from mains and allow it to cool.
    • Square lamp: Remove wire racks, protective glass cover with a screwdriver, unscrew the lamp, replace, and reassemble.
    • Round lamp: Turn the glass cover counter-clockwise to remove, replace the lamp, and install the glass cover.
  • Removing Wire Racks: Pull the front part of the rack to unclip it from the oven cavity, then pull the entire rack out.
