Utilities while adjusting control gains
It is not required, but it may be useful to make use of the following utilities while performing the
adjustment procedure of the control gains:
In Position Tolerance
The digital part support machine parameter ‘In Position Tolerance’ can be used while adjusting
the control gains.
When the part support angle error is smaller than the angle given by In Position Tolerance, the
displayed value in Zoomed Values menu (after PS=) is highlighted.
Otherwise, the displayed value in Zoomed Values menu is not highlighted.
Overshoot measurement
When choosing the control gains too high, this may result in an overshoot. This means that the
part support will first go somewhat further than the final desired angle before the part support
moves back to the desired angle.
The overshoot can also be measured by setting ‘Adjustment Mode’ to 3 in the part support
machine parameters.
In the ‘Zoomed Values’ menu, after ‘PS = ..’, the amount of overshoot (in degrees) can then be
read off in press status 4. In case of an overshoot this value is negative, since it is calculated as
the difference between the programmed value and the actual value:
overshoot = programmed value - actual value
Select a dwell-time of at least 2 seconds, to be able to read this value.
If necessary, there are two possibilities to decrease the overshoot:
- increase the value of the Differential Gain Max. This can decrease the overshoot value, but
the movement of the part support arm may become less smooth.
- decrease the value of the Proportional Gain Max. This can also decrease the overshoot value,
but the accuracy of the part support movement with respect to the pressing movement will be
less.
