Function Description:

The De'Longhi KETTLE KBJ2001 Series is an electric kettle used for heating water. It features a 360° rotational power base with cord storage, allowing the kettle to be placed on the base at any angle. The kettle is equipped with an automatic ON/OFF switch that activates when the water boils and a safety cut-out device to protect against damage if operated with too little or no water. A removable filter is included to prevent loose scale particles from being poured into beverages.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: Minimum 0.3 litres, Maximum 1.7 litres.
  • Power Base: 360° rotational base with central connector and cord storage.
  • Safety Features: Automatic ON/OFF switch, safety cut-out device for dry operation, power-on indicator lights.
  • Materials: Conforms to EC Regulation 1935/2004 on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
  • Altitude Limit: Not to be used at altitudes exceeding 2000m.

Usage Features:

  • Switching On:
    • Plug the power base into the mains socket.
    • Place the kettle on the power base.
    • Press the ON/OFF switch down to turn the kettle on; the power-on indicator lights will illuminate.
    • The kettle automatically switches off once the water boils (the ON/OFF switch clicks upwards and the lights switch off).
    • To turn off before boiling, move the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position or lift the kettle from its base.
  • Filling:
    • Remove the kettle from the base unit.
    • Remove the lid and fill to the desired level.
    • Do not fill with less than 0.3 litres to prevent dry running and element damage.
    • Do not fill with more than 1.7 litres to avoid overflow and burns.
    • Push the lid firmly into place until it clicks.
  • Pouring:
    • Remove the kettle from the power base.
    • Pour water carefully, avoiding sudden tilting or pouring at too sharp an an angle.
    • Moisture on the top surface of the base after lifting the kettle is normal condensation.
  • Initial Use (Before First Use):
    • Remove all packaging and labels.
    • Remove and wash the filter with water.
    • Fill the kettle to the 'MAX' level and boil.

  • Lid: Removable lid that must be firmly in place during operation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning the Kettle:
    • Allow the kettle to cool down fully and disconnect from the mains.
    • Wipe the outside with a soft, dampened cloth and dry with a soft, dry cloth.

    • Clean the filter when deposits are noticed or pouring efficiency is impaired.
    • Removing the filter: Allow the kettle to cool and disconnect from the mains. Empty the kettle and remove the lid. Push down the catch firmly, then lift the filter up from inside the kettle.
    • Cleaning the filter: Rinse under a tap while brushing with a soft brush.
    • Replacing the filter: Slide it firmly down from the inside.
  • Descaling:
    • Regular descaling is vital to maintain good working order and prevent excessive scale build-up, which can affect performance and product life.
    • Use descaler for kettles (citric-acid based solutions are recommended) according to the descaler pack instructions when limescale forms on the heating element or interior walls.
    • After descaling, boil repeatedly with fresh water and rinse thoroughly at least three times to eliminate all descaler residues.
    • If the filter requires descaling, remove and immerse it in the same descaling solution.
    • Ensure electric parts are completely dry before using the kettle after cleaning or descaling.

Safety Warnings:

  • Electric Shock Hazard: Avoid spillage on the connector. Do not immerse the mains lead, plug, power base, or kettle in water or any other liquid. Do not use in the bathroom, near water sources, or outdoors. Do not use with wet hands.
  • Burns/Scalds Hazard: Do not remove the lid while the kettle is boiling. Overfilling can cause boiling water to eject. The heating element surface remains hot after use. Do not touch hot surfaces; use handles or knobs. Water can remain hot for a long time after boiling. Avoid contact with steam from the spout or lid.
  • Appliance Damage/Injury: Use the kettle only for boiling water. Do not operate on an inclined surface or unless the element is fully immersed. Do not use alkaline cleaning agents. Do not move the kettle while in use. Do not use without the lid and filter. Position the kettle properly on the power base before switching on.
  • Children: Close supervision is necessary when used near children. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance. The appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised or instructed.
  • Power Cord: If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons using special tools. Do not allow the mains lead to hang over the edge of the table or work surface. Keep the kettle and mains lead away from the edge of the work surface and out of reach of children.
  • General: Remove the plug from the mains socket when not in use and before cleaning. Allow the kettle to cool before cleaning. Do not store anything inside the kettle. Do not put the kettle, its base, or cord near or on cookers, hot plates, or gas burners.
  • Improper Use: The manufacturer is not responsible for damage caused by inappropriate, improper, or irresponsible use, or repairs by unauthorized personnel. The appliance is for domestic use only and not suitable for commercial or staff kitchen environments.
  • Over-tilting: Take care when pouring to avoid over-tilting, as water may enter the switch mechanism.
