Overview

This document is an instruction manual for a DELTA 5.5 Horsepower Pressure Washer, model DTH2450, with 5880 Cleaning Units. The manual provides essential information for safe operation, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the device.

Function Description:

The DELTA DTH2450 is a gasoline-powered pressure washer designed for cleaning various surfaces. It utilizes a high-pressure pump driven by a 5.5 horsepower engine to deliver pressurized water, which can be mixed with cleaning agents for enhanced effectiveness. The unit is designed for consumer applications, specifically personal residential household usage.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Engine: 5.5 Horsepower
  • Cleaning Units (CU): 5880 (calculated as GPM x PSI)
  • Pressure (PSI): 2450 Pounds per Square Inch (preset at the factory for optimum pressure and cleaning)
  • Flow Rate (GPM): 2.4 Gallons Per Minute
  • Water Supply Requirements: Minimum 20 PSI and 5 gallons per minute
  • Fuel: Fresh, high-quality, unleaded gasoline with a pump octane rating of 86 or higher.
  • Engine Oil: Specific type and quantity as per the Engine Owners Manual.
  • High Pressure Hose Length: Recommended to be under 100 feet for optimal performance.

Usage Features:

  • Multi-Adjustable Spray Wand: This key feature allows users to switch between high and low pressure settings and adjust the spray pattern.
    • High Pressure Setting: Used for cleaning and rinsing. The spray pattern can be adjusted from a 0° pencil stream (most concentrated and powerful) to a 40° wide-angle fan spray (less concentrated, for broader coverage). To engage high pressure, the nozzle of the multi-adjustable spray wand is pulled back.
    • Low Pressure Setting: Used for applying chemicals or cleaning solutions. To engage low pressure, the nozzle is extended.
    • Pressure Adjustment: While the pump pressure is factory preset, users can effectively lower the pressure by backing away from the surface or by widening the fan spray using the adjustable nozzle. It is explicitly stated that users should NOT attempt to increase pump pressure beyond the factory setting, as this may damage the pump.
  • Chemical Injection System: The pressure washer includes a chemical hose that feeds cleaning agents into the pump, mixing them with water to improve cleaning effectiveness.
    • Application: Chemicals are applied in the low-pressure setting.
    • Chemical Type: Only household detergents, cleaners, and degreasers specifically recommended for pressure washer use should be used. Acids, gasoline, kerosene, bleach, or other corrosive/flammable materials are strictly prohibited.
    • Dilution: For every 7 gallons of water pumped, 1 gallon of chemical/cleaning solution will be used.
    • Rinsing: After chemical use, the system must be thoroughly rinsed by drawing clean water through the chemical hose to prevent damage to the pump from chemical residue.
  • Engine Controls: The unit incorporates standard engine controls such as a choke control, starter grip, fuel valve lever, and engine switch, whose operation is detailed in the separate Engine Owners Manual.
  • Safety Features:
    • Trigger Lock: The spray gun includes a trigger lock to prevent accidental operation when the wand is not in service.
    • Bypass Mode: The pump enters bypass mode when the gun trigger is not pulled, recirculating water within the pump. However, prolonged operation (more than two minutes) in bypass mode can cause overheating and damage to the pump.
    • Water Inlet Filter: A screen filter at the water inlet prevents foreign matter from entering and damaging the pump.

Maintenance Features:

  • Routine Maintenance: A routine maintenance schedule is recommended for efficient operation and longer life, with more frequent checks needed under unusual conditions (high temperatures, dusty environments).
  • Engine Maintenance: Refer to the Engine Owners Manual for all engine-related maintenance.
  • Pump Maintenance: The pump is maintenance-free and does not require oil. In case of problems, contact an Authorized Service Center.
  • Nozzle Cleaning: If the nozzle becomes clogged, leading to excessive pressure or pulsating pump pressure, it needs to be cleaned.
    • Procedure: Shut off the unit and water supply, disconnect the spark plug wire, relieve water pressure by pulling the gun trigger, disconnect the wand from the gun, remove the nozzle using the provided 2mm Allen wrench, clean the nozzle with the nozzle cleaner or a straightened paper clip, and backflush with water for 30 seconds. Then reassemble and test.
  • Water Inlet Filter Cleaning: The screen filter should be checked periodically and cleaned.
    • Procedure: Remove the filter by grasping its end, clean it by flushing with water on both sides, and re-insert it with the cone side facing out. Operating the pressure washer without a properly installed filter is prohibited.
  • Storage:
    • Engine Storage: Refer to the Engine Owners Manual.
    • Pump Storage: For storage longer than 30 days or when freezing temperatures are expected, a pump protector/winterizer is recommended. Alternatively, RV antifreeze can be used.
      • RV Antifreeze Procedure: Obtain a funnel, six ounces of RV antifreeze, and a 16-36 inch garden hose with a male connector. Disconnect the spark plug wire, connect the garden hose to the pump's water inlet, add RV antifreeze to the hose, and slowly pull the engine starter rope several times until antifreeze comes out of the high-pressure hose connection. Then remove the garden hose and reconnect the spark plug wire. Only RV antifreeze should be used, as other types can be corrosive. Windshield washer fluid may also be used.
    • Pressure Washer Storage: Drain all water from the high-pressure hose, coil it, and store it in the handle's cradle. Drain all water from the spray gun and wand by holding the gun vertically with the nozzle pointing down and squeezing the trigger, then store it in the gun holder. Store the chemical hose to protect it from damage.

Safety Guidelines:

The manual emphasizes critical safety warnings, including risks of explosion/fire (due to spilled fuel, hot engine components, flammable liquids), breathing hazards (exhaust fumes, cleaning fluid vapors), fluid injection (high-pressure spray can penetrate flesh), chemical burns (from improper cleaning agents), electrical shock (spraying electrical outlets), hot surfaces (engine exhaust), and injury/property damage during transport/storage (fuel/oil leaks). Users are instructed to wear ANSI approved Z87 safety glasses and protective clothing, avoid pointing the wand at people or animals, secure the trigger lock, and never permanently secure the trigger in the open position.
