Overview

This document provides installation, usage, and maintenance instructions for a Two Handle Washerless Kitchen Faucet, specifically the Delta 21742 Series/Series. The faucet is designed for kitchen use and features a two-handle operation.

Function Description:

The Delta 21742 Series/Series faucet is a two-handle washerless kitchen faucet that controls the flow and temperature of water. It includes a main spout and a separate spray hose with a spray support. The washerless design aims to provide durability and reduce leaks compared to traditional washer-based faucets. The faucet is installed through mounting holes in the sink, with separate connections for hot and cold water supplies.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Faucet Type: Two Handle Washerless Kitchen Faucet
  • Series: 21742 Series/Series
  • Water Supply Connections: Compatible with 3/8" O.D. copper tubing with coupling nuts (not supplied) or 1/2" I.P.S faucet connectors.
  • Mounting: Designed for installation through mounting holes in the sink.
  • Spray Hose: Includes a separate spray hose with a quick-connect assembly.
  • Diverter: Optional diverter cap for installations where a sprayer is not needed.

Usage Features:

  • Two-Handle Operation: Separate handles for hot and cold water allow for precise temperature and flow control.
  • Spray Hose: A dedicated spray hose provides flexibility for various kitchen tasks, such as rinsing dishes or cleaning the sink. The spray hose is inserted through a support in the sink and connects to the faucet's internal plumbing via a quick-connect assembly.
  • Optional Diverter Cap: For users who do not require the spray function, a diverter cap can be assembled onto the hose nipple, effectively bypassing the sprayer.
  • Washerless Design: This design aims to provide a smooth operation and reduce the likelihood of drips and leaks commonly associated with traditional washer-style faucets.

Installation Process:

  1. Shut Off Water Supplies: Before starting, ensure all water supplies are turned off.
  2. Remove Old Faucet: Carefully remove any existing faucet from the sink.
  3. Mount New Faucet: Place the new Delta faucet through the mounting holes in the sink. If the sink surface is uneven, silicone can be applied under the escutcheon for a secure and level fit. Secure the faucet to the sink using the provided locknuts.
  4. Install Spray Support and Hose: Mount the spray support in the designated hole in the sink (typically the far-right hole). Insert the spray hose down through the support and then up through the center hole of the sink.
  5. Connect Spray Hose: Snap the quick-connect hose assembly onto the hose nipple. Pull down moderately on the hose to ensure a secure connection. It is crucial not to remove the clips from the hose assembly. If the sprayer is not needed, an optional diverter cap can be installed instead.
  6. Connect to Water Supplies: Determine the type of connection being used (3/8" O.D. copper tubing with coupling nuts or 1/2" I.P.S faucet connectors). Connect the hot and cold water lines to the faucet. (Note: Hook-ups are not provided with the faucet).
  7. Flush System and Check for Leaks:
    • Remove and clean the aerator from the faucet spout.
    • Turn both faucet handles completely to the "on" position.
    • Turn on the hot and cold water supplies.
    • Allow water to run for one minute to flush out any debris that could damage internal parts.
    • Check all connections (indicated by arrows in the diagram) for leaks.
    • Replace the aerator once flushing is complete.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting Leaks:
    • If faucet leaks from spout: Replace the Stem Unit and Seats and Springs.
    • If faucet leaks from around spout bonnet: Replace the O-Rings.
  • Troubleshooting Faucet Exhibits Very Low Flow:
    • Remove and clean the aerator.
    • Replace the Seats and Springs.
  • Troubleshooting Spray Attachment Does Not Function Properly:
    • Remove and clean the Diverter Assembly.
    • Replace the Diverter Assembly.
  • Handle Rotation Issues:
    • If the top stops prevent proper handle rotation, ensure the top stops are installed correctly.
    • If the handle has an incorrect rotation, ensure the handle with the "H" mark (hot) is installed on the right side and the handle with the "C" mark (cold) is installed on the left side.
  • Cleaning and Care:
    • The faucet's finish is durable but can be damaged by harsh abrasives or polish.
    • To clean, gently wipe the faucet with a damp cloth and blot dry with a soft towel. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or polishes.
