Overview

This document is a user manual for a Denali Aire Mechanical Window Air Conditioner, specifically for model 1DMC5K. It provides comprehensive information on installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Denali Aire Mechanical Window Air Conditioner is designed to cool a room by drawing in warm air, removing heat and humidity, and then circulating cooler air. It features mechanical controls for setting temperature and mode. The unit uses R32 refrigerant, which is an environmentally friendly hydrocarbon.

Important Technical Specifications

Model: 1DMC5K Refrigerant: R32 (environmentally friendly hydrocarbon) Electrical Requirements:

  • Voltage: 115 volt (103 min.-127 max)
  • Amps: 0-8 amps
  • Fuse/Circuit Breaker: 10-amp time-delay fuse or circuit breaker
  • Circuit: Use on a single outlet circuit only Window Dimensions for Installation:
  • Width: 23" to 36" (584 mm to 914 mm)
  • Lower Sash Vertical Clearance: 14 1/2" min (368mm) Unit Operation Limits:
  • Outdoor Side: 61~110°F, 80%RH
  • Indoor Side: 61~90°F, 80%RH Refrigerant Charge and Minimum Room Area (for R32, LFL = 0.306 kg/m³): The manual provides detailed tables (GG.1 and GG.2) for maximum charge and minimum room area based on capacity (Btu), installation height (h₀), and charge amount (M). For example:
  • For <9K BTU, room area above 4m²
  • For <12K BTU, room area above 4m²
  • For <18K BTU, room area above 15m²
  • For <24K BTU, room area above 25m² The maximum charge (mmax) and minimum room area (Amin) calculations are based on formulas involving LFL, installation height (h₀), and room area (A).

Usage Features

Controls: The air conditioner uses a mechanical dial for operation.

  • Power: Turn on the unit by rotating the mode dial to the desired setting.
  • Cooling Mode: Set the mode dial to "Snow Flake" for maximum cooling. In high cool mode, the fan automatically goes to high for better air circulation. In "Snow Flake" mode, the fan operates on low.
  • Fan Mode: Choose either of the "Fan" options for fan-only operation. The unit will not cool the room in fan mode.
  • Thermostat: Turn the temperature dial to set the desired room temperature. For maximum cooling, set the dial to 7 (Max Cool).
  • Directional Louvers: Adjust the horizontal wheel to control horizontal airflow and the air deflector to control vertical airflow. Safety Precautions:
  • Always plug into a grounded 3-prong outlet.
  • Do not remove the ground prong or use a plug adapter or extension cord.
  • Unplug the unit before servicing.
  • Use two or more people to move and install the air conditioner due to its weight.
  • The unit is equipped with an LCDI (Leakage Current Detection and Interruption) power cord and plug for electrical shock protection. Users should test the plug regularly using the TEST and RESET buttons.
  • A 3-minute delay prevents the compressor from overheating and tripping the circuit breaker when changing modes. Normal Operating Sounds:
  • Pinging noise from water hitting the condenser (especially on rainy or humid days) is normal and helps improve efficiency.
  • Thermostat clicking when the compressor cycles on and off is normal.
  • Water collection in the base pan and dripping from the outside is normal due to humidity removal.
  • The fan may run even when the compressor is off.

Maintenance Features

Air Filter Cleaning:

  • Check the air filter monthly for trapped particles and dust.
  • Remove the filter by sliding it out from the front right side.
  • Wash the filter with liquid dish soap and warm water, rinse thoroughly, and gently shake off excess water.
  • Allow the filter to dry completely before reinserting.
  • Alternatively, vacuum the filter to remove dust and particles. Cabinet Cleaning:
  • Unplug the air conditioner before cleaning.
  • Dust the cabinet and front panel with an oil-free cloth or wash with a cloth dampened in a solution of warm water and mild liquid soap.
  • Rinse thoroughly with a damp cloth and wipe dry.
  • Do not use harsh cleaners, wax, or polish on the cabinet front.
  • Wring excess water from the cloth before wiping around controls to prevent damage. Winter Storage:
  • For extended storage, remove the unit from the window according to installation instructions.
  • Cover it with plastic or place it in its original box. Refrigerant R32 Specific Maintenance:
  • Maintenance personnel must strictly comply with the Operation Manual provided by the manufacturer. Non-professionals are prohibited from maintaining the air conditioner.
  • A leak test must be performed after installation.
  • Safety inspections are required before maintenance or repair to minimize fire risk.
  • The handling, installation, storage, servicing, and disposal must comply with gas-related national laws and regulations and national wiring regulations.
  • Refrigerant must be cleared from the system when maintaining or scrapping the unit.
  • The installation site should be well-ventilated and free from open flames, welding, smoking, drying ovens, or any heat source above 548°C.
  • Appropriate anti-static measures (e.g., anti-static clothing/gloves) must be taken during installation.
  • The installation site should be convenient for maintenance, with clear air inlets/outlets, away from heat sources or combustible/explosive environments.
  • If refrigerant leaks during installation, personnel must evacuate for 15 minutes. Damaged products must be returned to a maintenance station; welding refrigerant pipes or other operations on-site are prohibited.
  • Ensure even inlet and outlet air for the indoor unit.
  • Avoid placing the unit near electrical products, power switches, sockets, kitchen cabinets, beds, sofas, or other valuables, and prevent mechanical damage.
