Overview

The DEWALT DC608 18 Gauge Cordless Nailer is a battery-operated power tool designed for fastening applications, specifically driving 18-gauge brad nails. It offers both sequential and bump actuation modes for versatile use in various work conditions. The tool is intended for intermittent nailing where precise placement and depth control are desired, as well as for rapid nailing on flat, stationary surfaces. It is not designed for fastening electrical cables.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Firing Mode: Selective (allowing for both sequential and bump actuation)
  • Voltage: 18V
  • Height: 11.25" (286 mm)
  • Width: 3.5" (89 mm)
  • Length: 11.5" (292 mm)
  • Weight: 7.5 lbs. (3.4 kg)
  • Magazine Angle:
  • Loading Capacity: Up to 110 nails
  • Nail Lengths (Straight, 18 Gauge): 5/8", 3/4", 1", 1-1/8", 1-3/16", 1-1/4", 1-5/16", 1-3/8", 1-1/2", 1-9/16", 1-3/4", 2" (16 mm, 19 mm, 25 mm, 29 mm, 30 mm, 32 mm, 33 mm, 35 mm, 38 mm, 40 mm, 44 mm, 50 mm)
  • Shank Diameters: 18 gauge

Usage Features:

  • Actuation Modes:
    • Sequential Action: Ideal for intermittent nailing requiring careful and accurate placement and depth control. The user depresses the nosepiece against the workpiece (which starts the motor), then pulls the trigger to drive a nail. The trigger must be released and re-depressed for each subsequent nail.
    • Bump Action: Designed for rapid nailing on flat, stationary surfaces. In this mode, the trigger can be held down, and a nail will be fired each time the contact trip is depressed against the work surface. Users are cautioned to maintain control to avoid unintentional double fires.
  • Contact Trip Lock-off: A safety feature that prevents accidental firing when the tool is not in immediate use. It should always be engaged when making adjustments, clearing jams, or when the tool is not in use.
  • Depth Adjustment Wheel: Allows users to adjust the depth at which fasteners are driven. There are twelve settings, with 1 being the shallowest and 6 being the deepest. Adjustments should always be made with the battery pack removed and the contact trip lock-off engaged.
  • Headlights/Low Battery/Jam Indicator: The tool features headlights that illuminate the work surface upon battery insertion, trigger activation, or contact trip depression. These lights also serve as indicators: flashing four times consecutively for low battery and continuously for a jammed nail.
  • Jam Clearing Latch: Provides easy access to clear jammed fasteners from the nosepiece.
  • Reversible Suspension Hook: An integrated hook that can be attached to either side of the tool to accommodate left- or right-handed users, or removed entirely if not desired.
  • Low Nail Indicator: A visual indicator to alert the user when the nail supply is running low.
  • Cordless Operation: Powered by an 18V battery pack, offering portability and freedom from cords.
  • NO LUBE Design: The tool is designed to operate without external lubrication, simplifying maintenance.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Maintenance Chart:
    • Action: Clean magazine, pusher, and contact trip mechanism.
    • Why: Permits smooth operation of magazine, reduces wear, and prevents jams.
    • How: The use of oils or lubricants periodically or solvents is not recommended as they tend to attract debris.
    • Action: Before each use, check to ensure all screws, nuts, and fasteners are tight and undamaged.
    • Why: Prevents jams and premature failure of tool parts.
    • How: Tighten loose screws or other fasteners using the appropriate Allen wrench or screwdriver.
  • Cleaning: Users are advised to blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with clean, dry air at least once a week. Non-metallic parts should be cleaned with a cloth dampened with water and mild soap; harsh chemicals or solvents should not be used. The charger exterior can be cleaned with a cloth or soft non-metallic brush.
  • Lubrication: DEWALT tools are properly lubricated at the factory. Annual cleaning and inspection by a certified service center are recommended. No external lubricants should be applied by the user.
  • Battery Pack and Charger Care:
    • Battery packs should be charged in temperatures between 65°F and 75°F (18°C-24°C) for optimal life and performance.
    • The charger and battery pack may become warm during charging, which is normal.
    • The charger features an Automatic Tune-Up™ Mode to equalize individual cells in the battery pack, optimizing capacity. This mode is activated by leaving the battery pack in the charger for at least 8 hours after a full charge.
    • Some chargers include a Hot/Cold Pack Delay feature, which suspends charging until the battery has cooled or warmed to an appropriate temperature.
    • Problem Power Line indicators on some chargers alert users to issues with the power source.
    • Battery packs should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, and should not be stored completely depleted of charge.
  • Repairs: To ensure safety and reliability, repairs, maintenance, and adjustments should be performed by a DEWALT factory service center or authorized service personnel using identical replacement parts. The charger and battery pack are not user-serviceable.

The DEWALT DC608 is designed for user safety, emphasizing the importance of reading the instruction manual, wearing eye and ear protection, and following proper operating procedures to prevent injury and ensure optimal tool performance.
