This document describes the DEWALT DCL079 Tripod Light, a portable lighting solution designed for commercial and household workspace illumination.
The DEWALT DCL079 Tripod Light is designed to provide workspace lighting. It operates on fully charged DEWALT 20V Max* or FLEXVOLT™ lithium-ion battery packs. The light head can be extended or collapsed via extension poles, and its angle can be pivoted to direct light as needed. The unit features a power button that cycles through three brightness settings (brightest, middle, lowest) and off. A low battery indicator warns when the battery is nearing full discharge by blinking twice and dimming, then blinking every 45 seconds until the light turns off.
The tripod light is powered by DEWALT 20V Max* or FLEXVOLT™ lithium-ion battery packs. It is designed for use with specific DEWALT chargers, including models DCB107, DCB112, DCB113, DCB115, DCB118, and DCB132. The battery packs have a fuel gauge with three green LED lights indicating charge levels: 75–100% charged, 51–74% charged, and <50% charged. If the charge is below the usable limit, the fuel gauge will not illuminate. The chargers are designed to operate on standard 120V household electrical power. For extension cords, the manual provides a minimum gauge chart based on cord length and ampere rating, recommending heavier gauges for longer cords and higher amperages. For example, a 120V system with 6-10 amps over 100 feet requires a 14 AWG cord.
Setup and Adjustment: To set up, hold the handle/rest with one hand and the carrying handle with the other. Press the leg release button and slide the carrying handle down until the legs extend and lock. Ensure legs are fully extended before extending the light head pole. To extend the LED light head, first extend and secure the legs. Unfasten the top latch and raise the head to the desired height, then fully close the top latch. For additional height, unfasten the bottom latch, extend the head further, and then fully fasten the bottom latch. The light head can be pivoted to the desired angle. Latches and light head screws (12, 13) can be hand-tightened if they loosen over time. Operation: Place the tripod light on a stable, level surface with its three legs extended. Press the power button (4) to turn the light on at the brightest setting. Subsequent presses cycle through middle brightness, lowest brightness, and off. The light head's heatsink (14) becomes hot during use, so avoid touching it and keep combustible materials away. Always pivot the head using its frame. Collapsing and Carrying: To collapse, first retract the extension poles until the light head rests in the lowest position inside the housing. Lock the latches. Press the leg release button and slide the carrying handle up until the legs fold completely. Keep hands clear of latches and legs to avoid pinching. Storage: Store the tripod light in its closed carrying position, lying on its side on the handle/rest, or standing vertically with legs extended and the light head fully collapsed into the base. Avoid storing vertically in the closed position to prevent tipping. Store indoors, away from heat sources, and out of reach of children.
Cleaning: Regularly blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with clean, dry air at least once a week, wearing ANSI Z87.1 approved eye protection. For non-metallic parts, use a cloth dampened with water and mild soap; do not use solvents or harsh chemicals, and never immerse the tool in liquid. Charger Maintenance: Disconnect the charger from the AC outlet before cleaning. Use a cloth or soft non-metallic brush to remove dirt and grease from the exterior. Do not use water or cleaning solutions. Battery Pack Care: Charge battery packs in designated DEWALT chargers only. Do not splash or immerse battery packs in water or other liquids. Store battery packs in a cool, dry location, ideally between 65 °F and 75 °F (18 °C – 24 °C), away from direct sunlight and excess heat (above 104 °F/40 °C) or cold (below 40 °F/4.5 °C). Do not store battery packs in a tool with the trigger switch locked on. Do not incinerate, crush, drop, or damage battery packs. If battery contents contact skin or eyes, wash immediately with soap and water or rinse eyes with water for 15 minutes, seeking medical attention if needed. Service and Repair: The light source contained in this light shall only be replaced by the manufacturer or his service agent or a similar qualified person. Repairs, maintenance, and adjustments should be performed by a DEWALT factory service center or an authorized service center using identical replacement parts. Do not attempt to disassemble the charger or battery pack; return them to a service center if damaged or malfunctioning.

Stability: Only use the tripod light on a stable surface. Do not raise above work space/personnel via lifting, hoisting, mounting, or suspension. When not in use, place the tripod light on its side resting on the handle/rest on a stable surface to prevent tripping or falling. Battery Safety: Do not charge or use battery packs in explosive atmospheres. Never force battery packs into non-compatible chargers or modify them. Charge only in designated DEWALT chargers. Do not store or use where temperatures exceed 104 °F (40 °C). Do not incinerate battery packs. If battery contents contact skin or eyes, wash immediately and seek medical attention. Do not crush, drop, or damage battery packs. Transportation of Batteries: Do not store or carry battery packs where metal objects can contact exposed terminals, as this can cause fires. When shipping, ensure battery terminals are protected and insulated. FLEXVOLT™ batteries have "Use" and "Shipping" modes, with shipping caps reducing the Watt-hour rating for compliance with regulations. Charger Safety: Do not attempt to charge battery packs with chargers other than those specified. Do not expose the charger to rain or snow. Pull by the plug, not the cord, when disconnecting. Ensure the cord is not stepped on, tripped over, or damaged. Use extension cords only if absolutely necessary and ensure they are suitable for outdoor use with adequate wire size. Do not place objects on top of the charger or block ventilation slots.
