Overview

The DigiTech Control Seven is a MIDI Controller Pedal designed to provide hands-free program changes on any MIDI device. It transmits program changes 1-128 on MIDI channels 1-16, making it a versatile tool for musicians and performers who need to switch between different sounds or effects quickly and efficiently during a live performance or studio session.

The pedal features a clear 4-digit LED display that shows the Program Number and MIDI Channel. This display is crucial for monitoring the current settings and making precise adjustments. The unit is equipped with several pedals that serve dual functions: they perform program changes and also handle bank up/down operations. This intuitive layout allows users to navigate through their programs with ease, without having to bend down or use their hands.

For connectivity, the Control Seven includes a standard 5-pin DIN MIDI jack for MIDI OUT, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of MIDI-enabled devices. Additionally, it has a 3.5mm Power In jack for its AC power device. This simple and standard connectivity makes it easy to integrate the Control Seven into existing setups.

Setting up the Control Seven is straightforward. To connect it, simply plug a MIDI cable into the MIDI OUT jack on the Control Seven and connect the other end to the MIDI IN jack on the device you wish to control. Then, plug the AC power device into the Control Seven and into an AC outlet. Once connected, the pedal is ready for operation.

One of the key operational features is MIDI Channel Select. To choose the operating MIDI channel, users press either the UP or DOWN pedals until a specific indicator appears in the display. Any numbered pedal can then be used to increment the MIDI Channel numbers. After selecting the desired channel, pressing either the UP or DOWN pedal exits the MIDI Channel Select mode. For example, to select MIDI Channel 4, the user would press UP or DOWN until the display shows the channel selection indicator, then press a numbered pedal until the display shows "4", and finally press UP or DOWN to confirm. The Control Seven will then transmit on the selected MIDI channel.

Program selection is organized into Banks of ten. The far right LED bars on the display indicate whether the user is in the lower 5 or upper 5 programs within that bank. To choose a Bank, the user presses either the UP or DOWN pedal. It's important to note that MIDI Channel select is handled separately, between 12 and 0. Within a Bank, the display will show either the lower bar or upper bar lit, indicating the specific program range. For instance, if the display reads "6" and the upper bar is lit, the selected programs will be 65-69.

When a program change message is sent, the display will flash four dashes, providing visual confirmation of the transmission. For quick navigation through Banks, users can press and hold the UP or DOWN switch. The numbers will initially change slowly and then scroll rapidly, allowing for efficient browsing of programs.

Upon power-up, the Control Seven defaults to MIDI Channel 1 and Program Number 0. However, it's important to remember that the Control Seven only transmits program change numbers 1 through 128. Program numbers 0 and 129 will not be transmitted, ensuring that only valid program change commands are sent to connected devices.

Maintenance features primarily revolve around ensuring the longevity and proper functioning of the device. The manufacturer provides a warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service, specifically for products used within the U.S. To validate this warranty, the warranty registration card must be mailed within ten days of purchase.
