Do you have a question about the Dimplex ML2T and is the answer not in the manual?
This document describes the Dimplex Convector Heater, a portable heating appliance designed to provide gentle background heating and take the chill off a room. It is ideally used as a supplementary heat source alongside a principal heating system. The heater is suitable for well-insulated spaces or occasional use.
The Dimplex Convector Heater operates on an AC electricity supply and is designed for domestic dwellings and similar indoor locations. It utilizes an electro-mechanical thermostat for temperature control, ensuring that the heater does not produce unnecessary heat when the room is already warm. Users can set their desired room temperature by gradually turning the thermostat knob clockwise. To quickly heat a cold room, the thermostat can be turned to the 'Max' position. Once the desired temperature is reached, turning the knob anti-clockwise until it clicks off will allow the heater to automatically maintain that temperature.
A notable feature of the thermostat is its frost protection setting, marked with a snowflake symbol. When set to this minimum position, the heater will cycle ON and OFF to maintain a temperature of approximately 5°C, helping to prevent frost damage in areas like garages. If the heater does not come on at a low thermostat setting, it may be because the room temperature is already higher than the set temperature.
Selected models of the convector heater are equipped with a turbo fan, which boosts airflow around the room. This feature helps to circulate heat more effectively, resulting in a reduced heat-up time and a more even heat distribution. The turbo fan is controlled via a dedicated control knob.
Some models also include heat selector switches, which are rotary switches offering up to four settings. These switches allow users to alter the heat output to suit specific applications, room conditions, and to improve energy economy.
For enhanced control, certain models feature a mechanical timer. This timer allows the heater to be programmed to switch ON and OFF at pre-set times throughout a 24-hour cycle. The timer has two operating modes: Manual operation (Position - I), where power is supplied continuously, and Auto operation (Position - snowflake symbol), where the heater is controlled by the pre-set program. To set the timer, users rotate the dial clockwise to align the correct time of day with a reference mark. ON and OFF times are programmed by pushing in segments around the dial; pushed-in segments switch the heater OFF for that part of the hour, while all other segments remain ON. These settings repeat daily until changed.
The appliance is fitted with a neon indicator on selected models, which illuminates when the heater is connected to the mains supply.
The Dimplex Convector Heater is supplied with feet and handles, making it easy to move. For installation, the feet must be securely fitted using the provided screws. The heater should be laid on its back, the two foot fixing screws removed, the feet pressed firmly into the convector body until they clip into position, and then secured with the screws. Once the feet are attached, the convector can be returned to an upright position and is ready for use.
It is crucial to ensure the heater is placed on a firm, level base, not directly underneath a mains supply socket. Adequate clearance dimensions, as indicated in the manual, must be maintained, and curtains or furniture should not be positioned close to the heater.
When using the heater for the first time, a small amount of fuming may occur as a protective film on the element burns off. This is normal, non-toxic, and will quickly dissipate. It is recommended to open a window to ventilate the room during initial use.
The heater incorporates several safety features. A thermal cutout provides safety overheat protection, switching off the heater if it overheats. Should this occur, the unit must be unplugged, allowed to cool completely, and the cause of overheating removed before resuming use. Selected models also include a safety tilt switch, which prevents the heater from operating if it is accidentally tipped over. If the heater tips over while hot, it should be disconnected from power, allowed to cool, and then stood upright before reconnecting. A muted rattling noise from the tilt switch mechanism when the product is moved or tilted is normal and not a fault.
The appliance must be earthed, and the use of extension leads or multi-plug adaptors is not advised due to potential risks of overloading, overheating, and fire. The heater is designed for a 10/13 amp fuse in the plug supplied, or a 15 amp fuse if any other type of plug is used. Wiring instructions are provided for connecting the mains lead to an appropriate plug, with clear color codes for Earth (GREEN AND YELLOW), Neutral (BLUE), and Live (BROWN).
Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining the heater. Before cleaning, the heater must always be disconnected from the power supply. Users should allow the heater to cool down completely before wiping it with a dry cloth to remove dust. A damp (not wet) cloth can be used to clean off stains, taking care not to allow moisture into the heater. Detergents, abrasive cleaning powders, or polishes of any kind should not be used on the heater's body.
If the heater is not needed for extended periods, such as during the summer, it should be stored in a dry place, preferably covered to prevent the accumulation of dirt and dust.
In case the mains lead of the appliance is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a similarly qualified person to avoid hazards. The instruction leaflet should be kept in a safe place and surrendered to a new owner if the appliance changes hands.
The product complies with all required European and UK Product Safety, Electromagnetic Compatibility, and Environmental Standards, including LVD, EMC, RoHS, and Eco Design Directives and Regulations.
For electrical products sold within the European Community, the manual advises that at the end of its useful life, the product should not be disposed of with household waste. Instead, it should be recycled where facilities exist, checking with local authorities or retailers for recycling advice. Packaging should also be disposed of in an eco-friendly way, either in a recycling bin or the nearest recycling facility.
