GENERAL INFORMATION
The procedures
for
maintaining
"new car"
appear-
ance
of
material covered
in
this section
are
those most
generally used.
The
final results
may
vary
due to
application
of
agents
by
persons inexperienced
at
this
work
and
also from
the
type
of
foreign element
on the
material.
For
satisfactory results, appearance main-
tenance should
be
performed
by
qualified experienced
personnel using
the
recommended agents
and es-
tablished service procedures.
VINYL ROOF COVERING
In
a
well ventilated area, saturate
a
clean cloth
with recommended Vinyl Roof Cleaner
and
Condi-
tioner. Wipe surface using
a
circular motion. With
another clean cloth, wipe excess material from
top.
Allow
to dry for ten
minutes.
For
general soil removal
use
a
laundry
bar
soap such
as
Fels-Naptha
or
equiva-
lent.
INTERIOR TRIM
Most stains
can be
removed while they
are
fresh
and have
not
hardened
and set
into
the
fabric.
An
exception
is mud or
clay, which should
be
allowed
to
dry
so
that most
of it can be
brushed
off. It is
helpful,
to know
the
nature
of the
staining matter
so the
correct cleaning agent may
be
used.
Remove rear seat
and
vacuum
the
interior thor-
oughly including under
the
front seat.
All vinyl interiors should
be
shampooed completely
including headlining, seats, door panels, instrument
panel, package shelf
and
carpeting
or
floor
mat.
Use Chrysler Parts Multi-Purpose Cleaner
No.
2298-532
or
equivalent,
on
everything except cloth
fabrics
and
carpet. Multi-Purpose cleaners should
be
used without dilution (just
as it
comes
out of the can).
First, saturate
the
area with
a
sponge, scrub with
a
brush
and
wipe
off
with
a
clean towel
or
soft cloth.

Vinyl Roof Covering

Cloth Seat Inserts
or
Carpeting
Prior
to
shampooing cloth seat inserts
or
carpeting,
obvious spots should
be
removed with spot remover;
such
as
Chrysler Parts Overspray Remover,
No.
2421-
089,
or
equivalent,
is an
excellent spot remover.
Use
a
soap flake solution such
as
Ivory Flakes
or
equivalent
and
warm water, make
the
mixture
a
thick
suds.
In
using this material, apply suds
to the
area
to
be cleaned with
a
natural sponge, scrub with
a
brush
and wipe excess suds
off
with
a
clean cloth. Add uphol-
stery tint
to the
upholstery shampoo solution,
if it is
necessary
to
restore faded color
on
cloth upholstery
or carpeting. When
the
tint
is
added,
use
only enough
to bring
the
material back
to
original color.
A
natural
sponge
is
recommended
for
this operation since
it
will
not retain
the dye
tint
and can be
rinsed
for use on
other areas.
Nylon Upholstery
Scrub
in the
same manner
as
other cloth fabrics
using soap flake solution. Faded
or
badly soiled nylon
upholstery
may be
redyed.
It is
recommended that
seats first
be
washed
and
thoroughly dried.
Mask
off any
areas that
are not to be
dyed.
Mix
NYLON DYE—50%
DYE and 50%
lacquer thinner
and adjust spray
gun to
wide range spray with
20 to
25
lbs.
pressure. Spray
the
DYE-and-thinner mixture
over
the
entire area. Allow
to dry and
cross-spray
a
second coat
of
DYE full strength. Allow
the
material
to
dry at
least two hours
in a
well ventilated area.
Mix
the
soap flakes suds solution. Sponge over
sprayed area. This will give
the
material
a
soft, natu-
ral feel, reduce chemical odor
and
help reduce
any
loose particles caused
by
spraying.
Remove overspray with Overspray Remover. Appli-
cation
of
NYLON DYE changes
the
color
of the
nylon.
So once
you
have decided
to
spray
it, you
must
dye all
matching areas unless
you
have perfectly matched
the
color.
