Function Description

The folding walker is a mobility aid designed to assist individuals with walking by providing stability and support. It features a two-button deluxe folding mechanism, allowing for easy storage and transport. The primary function is to enhance mobility and reduce the risk of falls for users who require assistance with balance and weight-bearing. The device is built to exacting standards and undergoes careful inspection prior to shipment, ensuring dependable service.

Usage Features

Custom Walker Adjustments:

Proper adjustment of the walker is crucial for user comfort and safety.

  • Handle Height: With the arm extended down, the walker handle should be positioned at wrist height.
  • Elbow Flexion: When the hand is placed on the hand-grip, the elbow should be flexed between 20° and 30°. This ensures an ergonomic and stable grip, reducing strain on the arms and shoulders.

Wheelchair to Walker Transfer (General):

This procedure ensures a safe transfer from a wheelchair to the walker.

  1. Lock Wheels: Ensure the wheels on the wheelchair are securely locked to prevent movement during transfer.
  2. Lift Body: Push down on the armrests of the wheelchair to lift the body.
  3. Transfer Hands: Carefully transfer one hand at a time to the walker, maintaining balance and support throughout the process.

Wheelchair to Walker Transfer (with Lower Extremity Injury):

This specific transfer method is for individuals with an injury to a lower extremity (e.g., right leg or foot).

  1. Lock Wheels: Verify that the wheelchair wheels are locked.
  2. Lift Body: Push down on the armrests to lift the body.
  3. Hand Transfer (Left Leg/Foot Injury): If the injury is to the left leg or foot, transfer the right hand to the walker first, followed by the left hand.
  4. Hand Transfer (Right Leg/Foot Injury): If the injury is to the right leg or foot, transfer the left hand to the walker first, followed by the right hand. This sequence helps maintain stability and support on the uninjured side.

Three-Point Gait (for Walking with Walker):

This gait pattern is recommended for safe and effective use of the walker.

  • Step 1: Alignment: Align the middle of your foot with the back legs of the walker. This establishes the starting position for each step.
  • Step 2: Walker Placement: Lift the walker and place it comfortably in front of you, ensuring all four legs are firmly on the floor. This provides a stable base before advancing.
  • Step 3: Walking Forward: Carefully walk forward one step at a time, moving the walker, then the injured leg, and finally the uninjured leg. This rhythmic movement maintains balance and support.
