Controlling the DryBuddyFLEX 3
Many important controls for the DryBuddyFLEX are located on the Transceiver where they can
be manually set and operated. The Remote controls allow basic operations to be conveniently
performed wirelessly.
Switching the DryBuddyFLEX 3 / Transceiver between its OFF, SLEEP, READY and
ALARM States
The Transceiver (and DryBuddyFLEX 3 system) can be in the following states:
OFF : For the DryBuddyFLEX to function, electric power must be supplied to the Transceiver(s).
The provided Power Supply must be plugged into a suitable electrical outlet which provides AC
power, and the plug at the end of its cable plugged in to the socket at the end of the
Transceivers “tail.” (See Fig. 6D). Please note that this attachment is a “bayonet” plug where
the plug is inserted in the socket and then rotated. This keeps the plug firmly in place. When
power is provided, the Power button at the top of the Transceiver will show a YELLOW light.
When electric power is not provided, there will not be any light in the Power button, and the
Transceiver will be OFF.
SLEEP : A YELLOW light indicates that the system is in its SLEEP state. This is the “rest” state for
the Transceiver, when it is not ready to function and will not alarm. The Transceiver must be in
its SLEEP state to use the settings buttons on the side of the Transceiver and to synchronize the
DryBuddyFLEX system.
READY : When the Transceiver is in its SLEEP state (YELLOW light) it can be switched to its
READY state by
Manually pressing the Power button on the Transceiver, or
Pressing the ON button on the Remote.
In the READY state, the Power button light is GREEN. The Transceiver is now ready to receive
the alarm signal from the Sensor and sound the alarm.
ALARM : The Transceiver activates its built-in audio alarm or any connected alarm such as a bed
shaker. The light in the Power button is RED. The Transceiver is switched to its ALARM state by
Receiving a signal from the Sensor when it senses wetness, or
Testing the system (described later).
The alarm can be switched OFF (or stopped) by

Overview

The DryBuddyFLEX 3 is a bedwetting alarm system designed to help individuals overcome nocturnal enuresis. The system primarily consists of a Transceiver and a Sensor, with additional functionality provided by a Remote control.

Function Description:

The core function of the DryBuddyFLEX 3 is to detect wetness and trigger an alarm, thereby conditioning the user to wake up when urination occurs. The system operates through various states: OFF, SLEEP, READY, and ALARM, each indicated by the color of the light on the Transceiver's Power button.

  • OFF State: In this state, the Transceiver receives no electric power, and there is no light on the Power button. The system is inactive. To activate the system, electric power must be supplied to the Transceiver.
  • SLEEP State: When electric power is supplied, the Transceiver enters the SLEEP state, indicated by a YELLOW light on the Power button. This is a "rest" state where the Transceiver is not actively monitoring for wetness and will not alarm. The SLEEP state is crucial for accessing the settings buttons on the side of the Transceiver and for synchronizing the DryBuddyFLEX system.
  • READY State: From the SLEEP state, the Transceiver can be switched to the READY state, indicated by a GREEN light on the Power button. In this state, the system is actively monitoring for wetness via the Sensor and is prepared to sound an alarm. The READY state can be initiated by manually pressing the Power button on the Transceiver or by pressing the ON button on the Remote.
  • ALARM State: The Transceiver enters the ALARM state when wetness is detected by the Sensor or when the system is being tested. In this state, the Power button light turns RED, and the Transceiver activates its built-in audio alarm or any connected external alarm, such as a bed shaker. The alarm can be stopped by pressing the Power button on the Transceiver or the OFF button on the Remote. Once the alarm is stopped, the system reverts to the SLEEP state (YELLOW light), ceasing to receive signals from the Sensor.

Usage Features:

  • Power Supply: The DryBuddyFLEX 3 requires electric power supplied via a dedicated Power Supply. This supply plugs into a standard electrical outlet, and its cable connects to the Transceiver's "tail" using a bayonet plug. This bayonet connection ensures the plug remains firmly in place.
  • Manual Control (Transceiver): The Power button on the Transceiver serves multiple purposes:
    • When in SLEEP (YELLOW light), pressing it switches the system to READY (GREEN light).
    • When in ALARM (RED light), pressing it stops the alarm and returns the system to SLEEP (YELLOW light).
  • Remote Control: A Remote control provides wireless convenience for managing the system's states:
    • Pressing the ON button on the Remote switches the system from SLEEP to READY.
    • Pressing the OFF button on the Remote stops the alarm when in the ALARM state, returning the system to SLEEP.
  • Remote Only (RO) Mode: The system can be configured into a Remote Only mode. In this mode, the Power button on the Transceiver becomes inactive for switching between SLEEP and READY states or for stopping the alarm. All such operations must then be performed using the Remote control. This feature is explained in more detail later in the manual.
  • Sensor Operation: The Sensor detects wetness. Upon detection, it sends a signal to the Transceiver, triggering the ALARM state. After an alarm is stopped and the system returns to SLEEP, the sensor remains "OFF" for two minutes. This allows time for cleaning and drying the sensor and preparing for reattachment to clean briefs without immediately re-triggering the alarm.

Maintenance Features:

  • Sensor Cleaning: After an alarm, the soiled sensor should be cleaned and dried before reattaching it to clean briefs. The two-minute "OFF" period for the sensor after an alarm facilitates this maintenance.
  • System Testing: The system includes a testing feature that allows users to intentionally trigger the ALARM state to ensure proper functionality. This is important for verifying that the Transceiver, Sensor, and any connected external alarms are working correctly.

Important Technical Specifications (implied):

  • Power Indicator: The Power button light color (YELLOW, GREEN, RED) provides clear visual feedback on the system's current operational state.
  • Alarm Mechanism: The Transceiver has a built-in audio alarm and the capability to connect to external alarms like bed shakers.
  • Wireless Communication: The system utilizes wireless communication between the Sensor and the Transceiver, and between the Remote and the Transceiver, for seamless operation.
  • Bayonet Plug: The power connection to the Transceiver uses a bayonet-style plug for a secure and reliable attachment.
