The primary function of the Dualit NewGen Toaster is to toast bread slices to a desired level of crispness. It utilizes patented ProHeat elements, which are designed for heavy-duty use and are replaceable, contributing to the toaster's longevity. The toaster incorporates a mechanical timer with a defrost setting, allowing for precise control over toasting duration and the ability to toast frozen bread directly. A selector switch enables users to choose the number of slots to be heated, promoting energy efficiency by only activating the necessary elements. The manual ejector, a "Peek & Pop" mechanism, provides greater toasting control by allowing users to check the toast's progress at any time without interrupting the toasting cycle. Once the toast is ready, it does not automatically pop up but remains warm inside the toaster until the ejector knob is pressed.
The toaster can be transformed into a toasted sandwich maker with the addition of a separately sold sandwich cage accessory. This accessory allows users to create toasted sandwiches with various fillings. Another optional accessory is the warming rack, which can be used for warming or lightly toasting bread products that do not fit inside the slots, such as croissants, scones, pastries, or tortillas.
Before first use, the toaster's ProHeat elements need to be conditioned. This involves setting the selector switch to activate all slots, with no bread inserted, and running the timer through a full cycle. Some smoke and popping sounds during this initial conditioning are normal.
For regular toasting, users should always load bread into all heated-up slots, starting from the left, to ensure even toasting. The timer should be adjusted according to the type of bread, as different breads toast at different rates (e.g., wholemeal bread takes longer than white bread, and fresh bread takes longer than day-old bread). Subsequent rounds of toast will generally take less time as the elements and toaster body will be at full operating temperature. The toaster can accommodate bread slices up to 28mm thick. For smaller items or thicker hand-cut slices, using a sandwich cage is recommended for easier insertion, checking, and removal. Toasting can be manually canceled at any time by rotating the timer back to 'O'. For reheating recently made toast, the timer can be set to the 'defrost' symbol.
When toasting frozen bread, the selector switch is set to the desired number of slots, and frozen slices are inserted. The timer is then rotated to the defrost symbol and allowed to wind down. After a brief waiting period, the bread will be defrosted and ready for further toasting, following the instructions for fresh bread.
For making toasted sandwiches with the sandwich cage, medium-sliced bread should be lightly buttered on the outside. Fillings are placed between the unbuttered sides, ensuring not to overfill the sandwich. The cage is then inserted into the slots, pushed down until clamped shut, and the timer is set to achieve a golden toast.
The toaster is an attended appliance and should not be left unattended during use. It should be unplugged after each use to prevent fire risks. The toaster should be positioned on an open, level surface, at least 200mm clear from any walls or overhanging cupboards, and away from curtains or other flammable materials. An adjustable foot on the base allows for compensation on uneven surfaces.

The aluminium end castings can be wiped with a damp cloth, again avoiding chemical or abrasive cleaners.
The crumb tray, located at the base of the toaster, must always be in place during toasting and should be emptied regularly. A build-up of crumbs can burn or cause a fire, so daily emptying is recommended, especially in commercial settings. For cleaning the inside of the toaster, with the appliance unplugged, a soft brush should be used to gently brush off crumbs from the elements. Sharp or metal utensils should never be used inside the toaster. The toaster can also be turned upside down and gently shaken to remove excess crumbs.
The toaster is equipped with a thermal protection device. If the toaster neon illuminates but the elements fail to warm up, or if there's an audible 'click' above the normal ticking of the timer, it indicates that this device may have activated due to overheating. To prevent activation, ensure adequate space around the toaster and avoid repeated use of the warming rack without allowing the toaster to cool. Resetting the thermal fuse, which is part of the thermal protection device, should only be carried out by a qualified electrician after verifying that there are no other faults.
The Dualit NewGen Toaster is designed with repairability in mind, with all parts being replaceable. For instance, the ProHeat elements and the mechanical timer are available as spare parts. All servicing, including element replacement, must be carried out by a qualified electrician or repairer to ensure safety and maintain the guarantee. Fitting non-Dualit parts will invalidate the guarantee.
