Overview

This document is the Owner's and Installation Manual for Durastar Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners/Heat Pumps, specifically models DRPTAC07Y32351A, DRPTAC09Y32351A, DRPTAC12Y32351A, DRPTAC15Y32351A, DRPTAC15Y32501A, DRPTHP07Y32351A, DRPTHP09Y32351A, DRPTHP12Y32351A, DRPTHP15Y32351A, and DRPTHP15Y32501A, which use R32 refrigerant and operate on 208/230V 60Hz power.

Function Description

The Durastar Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner/Heat Pump (PTAC/PTHP) is designed to provide heating and cooling for a single room or zone. It offers multiple operating modes including COOL, DRY, HEAT, and FAN. The unit features a memory function that retains control settings (mode, fan speed, on/off, and configuration) in case of power loss. Upon power restoration, the unit will resume operation in its last configured state. An automatic evaporator freeze protection feature turns off the compressor and turns on the indoor fan if the evaporator temperature drops too low, preventing ice buildup. For heat pump models, an automatic quick warm-up feature activates electric heat for one cycle if the room temperature falls 8°F/4.5°C below the set temperature, ensuring rapid heating. The unit also includes a compressor restart delay of three minutes to equalize refrigerant pressure, extending the compressor's lifespan and preventing short-cycling.

The unit can be configured in various ways through DIP switches or the control panel, allowing for customization of settings such as temperature display (°F or °C), setpoint temperature range, continuous (CON) or cycling (CYC) fan operation, low temperature protection, wall thermostat control, and front desk control.

Usage Features

Control Panel Operation:

  • ON/OFF Button: Powers the unit on or off.
  • MODE Button: Cycles through COOL, DRY, HEAT, and FAN modes.
    • COOL Mode: Cooling starts when room temperature is above setpoint, stops 4°F (2°C) below setpoint.
    • DRY Mode: Unit acts as a dehumidifier with some cooling. Fan operates at low speed.
    • HEAT Mode: Maximum set temperature is 84°F (29°C). Heat pump models can alternate between reverse cycle heat pump and electric heater.
    • FAN Mode: Only the fan runs; displays room temperature.
  • UP (+)/DOWN (-) Buttons: Adjust temperature setpoint in 1°F (1°C) increments. Holding these buttons together for three seconds toggles between °F and °C display.
  • SPEED (FAN SPEED) Button: Cycles through AUTO, HIGH, LOW fan speeds. In AUTO mode, fan speed adjusts automatically. In DRY mode, fan speed is fixed at low.
  • CONSTANT FAN Button: In cooling mode, toggles continuous fan operation. When ON, the fan runs continuously. When OFF, the fan cycles with the compressor.
  • Panel Locking: Pressing CONSTANT FAN and ON/OFF buttons together for five seconds locks/unlocks the control panel, displaying "LL" when locked.
  • LED Display: Shows set temperature or room temperature (in FAN mode).
  • Display Codes:
    • Control Codes: LC (wall thermostat control), FC (front desk control).
    • Error Codes: EO (EEPROM failure), E3 (fan stall), E4 (main control/display communication), AS (room temp sensor), ES (evaporator temp sensor), CS (condenser temp sensor), OS (outside temp sensor), HS (exhaust temp sensor), LE (wall thermostat error).
