Do you have a question about the Dux Proflo 25W124 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The device described in the manual is a Dux Proflo 25L and 50L Litre Electric Storage Water Heater.

Function Description:

The Dux Proflo electric storage water heater is designed to provide continuous hot water for domestic use. It stores and heats water using an electric element, ensuring a full tank of hot water is available when needed. The system is manufactured in Australia to high-quality standards, emphasizing efficiency, reliability, and longevity. It is suitable for most Australian metropolitan water supplies and is designed for direct connection to water supply pressures of 800kPa. The water heater delivers hot water at temperatures exceeding 50°C, and local regulations regarding temperature control for personal hygiene outlets must be followed.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models: 25W124, 25W136, 25W124P, 50W124, 50W136, 50W124P
  • Capacities:
    • 25L models: 31L Storage Capacity, 25L Hot Water Delivery
    • 50L models: 53L Storage Capacity, 50L Hot Water Delivery
  • Dimensions (25W1 / 50W1):
    • Total Height (A): 452 mm / 694 mm
    • Total Width (B): 405 mm / 405 mm
    • Outlet Height (C): 297 mm / 524 mm
    • Inlet Height (D): 153 mm / 158 mm
    • Electrical Entry (E): 67 mm / 67 mm
  • Weight (Empty): 17 kg (25L models) / 22 kg (50L models)
  • Element Sizes: 2.4 kW, 3.6 kW (for both 25L and 50L models)
  • Electrical Supply: Single phase 240V A.C supply only.
  • Water Supply Pressure: Designed for 800kPa. A pressure limiting device (complying with AS1357) must be fitted if mains pressure exceeds or fluctuates beyond this.
  • Relief Valve Specifications:
    • Pressure: 1000 kPa
    • Temperature: 99 °C
    • Power Rating: 10 kW
  • Water Quality: Designed for areas where Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) content is less than 2500 mg/L. If TDS exceeds 600mg/L, the magnesium alloy anode may become over-reactive and should be replaced with an aluminium alloy anode. If the water saturation index is greater than 0.40, an expansion control valve should be fitted. If greater than 0.80, a Hard Water Model is recommended.
  • Country of Origin: China (for the relief valve, the manual states "Country of Origin: China" under the relief valve specifications, implying this applies to the relief valve itself, not necessarily the entire unit, though the unit is manufactured in Australia).

Usage Features:

  • Positive Domed Tank: Provides superior corrosion resistance for longer life.
  • Appliance White Finish: Improves case durability.
  • Dual Handed Design with V-Fit Connection Orientation: Simplifies installation.
  • Full Tank of Hot Water: Ensures hot water is always available (not a tempered tank approach).
  • Location: Should be located as close as possible to frequently used hot water outlets. Adequate access for service (element, thermostat, relief valve, anode) is required. The data plate must be clearly visible.
  • Plinth Recommendation: A plinth is recommended where the water heater may be subjected to wet conditions.
  • Overflow Tray: A properly drained overflow tray must be used where water spillage could cause property damage.
  • Filling the Water Heater: Before turning on electricity, all hot water taps must be opened, and the cold water inlet valve slowly opened to allow the heater to fill until water flows through the system and air is expelled.
  • Temperature Protection: A suitably approved temperature control device must be fitted to hot water supplies for outlets used for personal hygiene to reduce scald risk.
  • Safety Devices: Fitted with a combination thermostat and over-temperature energy cut-out, and a combination Pressure & Temperature Relief Valve (PTR). These devices must not be tampered with or removed.
  • Hydrogen Accumulation Caution: If unused for two weeks or more, hydrogen gas may accumulate. To dissipate, turn on a hot tap for several minutes (not a dishwasher or clothes washer). No smoking, open flames, or electrical appliances should be nearby during this procedure.

Maintenance Features:

  • Sacrificial Anode: All models are equipped with a sacrificial anode, accessible through the top cover. 50% of the water heater's height clearance is needed above for anode replacement.
  • PTR Valve Operation: The PTR valve should be opened for approximately 10 seconds every six months by lifting the lever to ensure water is relieved to waste. This prevents potential problems, including tank explosion. It is normal for the PTR valve to leak a small amount of water during heating cycles.
  • PTR Valve Replacement: The PTR valve should be checked for adequate performance or replaced at intervals not exceeding 5 years, or less frequently if local regulations apply.
  • Five Year Service (Authorised Personnel Only): A licensed tradesperson should perform a five-yearly service, including:
    • Replacing the Pressure & Temperature Relief Valve.
    • Replacing the anode (more frequent checks recommended in harsh water conditions).
    • Flushing the water heater: Turn off power and cold water supply, release pressure via PTR valve, disconnect cold water inlet and attach a drain hose, operate PTR valve to let air in and water out, disconnect hot water inlet and attach a supply hose, turn on water supply until clear water appears, then reconnect fittings and restore electricity.
  • Troubleshooting (No Hot Water): Check if the PTR valve is discharging too much water, if the water heater size is adequate for usage, if specific outlets (e.g., shower) use excessive hot water, review family usage patterns, consider night-time heating recovery time, and inspect for leaking hot water pipes or dripping taps.
  • Troubleshooting (Continuous PTR Trickle): This may be due to foreign matter. Gently raising and releasing the PTR valve lever may dislodge it.
  • Troubleshooting (Steady PTR Flow > 20L/day): Indicates excessive water supply pressure, a faulty PTR valve, or a faulty thermostat. Turn off electricity and contact Dux Hot Water.
  • Troubleshooting (High Electricity Bills): Check for excessive PTR valve discharge, high hot water usage from outlets, or leaking pipes/taps. Replace faulty tap washers and rectify leaking pipework.
  • Element Cover Removal: The element cover should only be removed by an electrician. The electrical power supply must be turned off, and the fuse removed or circuit breaker isolated before removal.
  • Thermostat Reset: An electrician must press the reset button on the thermostat to ensure the over-temperature cut-out is set.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 1-year comprehensive parts and labour warranty and a 5-year replacement guarantee for the inner cylinder (1 year initial warranty + 4 years additional guarantee). This warranty is subject to proper installation by a licensed plumber and adherence to usage conditions.
