Overview

The DVDO Air 4K is an HDMI over Wireless Extender 60G designed to transmit 4K content wirelessly and without compression or latency to an HDMI display up to 10 meters. This device is ideal for creating a clean, cable-free entertainment setup within a single room, offering flexibility in display placement without compromising video or audio quality. Its primary function is to extend HDMI signals wirelessly, making it suitable for home theaters, conference rooms, or any environment where a wired HDMI connection is impractical or undesirable.

One of the key usage features of the DVDO Air 4K is its plug-and-play simplicity, ensuring easy connection and setup. Users can quickly establish a wireless link between their HDMI source and display without complex configuration. The system supports HDMI 1.4b and HDCP 2.2, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of modern audio/video equipment and content. It can handle video resolutions up to 4K at 30Hz and 1080P at 60Hz, delivering crisp and clear visuals. Furthermore, the extender supports up to 7.1 channels of High Bit Rate (HBR) lossless digital audio, including formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, providing an immersive audio experience. The uncompressed transmission of both 4K video and audio guarantees that the content retains its original quality, free from artifacts or degradation often associated with compressed wireless solutions. The near-zero latency feature is particularly beneficial for applications requiring real-time display, such as gaming or live presentations, where any delay could be detrimental. The wireless extension range of up to 10 meters provides sufficient coverage for most in-room setups. Additionally, the DVDO Air 4K supports CEC (Consumer Electronics Control), allowing for integrated control of connected devices through a single remote, enhancing user convenience.

The device includes several operational controls and indicators that facilitate its use and provide feedback on its status. Both the transmitter and receiver units feature a Link LED and a Power LED. The Link LED indicates the connection status:

  • When OFF, the adapter is powered off or in Sleep mode.
  • A Slow Blink signifies that the adapter has started radio transmission but has not yet found the other side of the link. If it's a transmitter, it's in Scan mode searching for a receiver; if it's a receiver, it's in Beacon mode searching for a transmitter.
  • A Fast Blink indicates that the adapters are associated, meaning they have accepted each other and established a network.
  • When ON, it means the transmitter and receiver adapters have established an audio/video connection, and the user should be able to see the transmission on the display. The Power LED simply illuminates when power is supplied to the unit.

Both the transmitter and receiver units also feature a multi-function button on their rear panels, offering several maintenance and operational features:

  • Wakeup Function: If an adapter is in Sleep mode (Status LED OFF, but power connected), pressing this button will wake it up and resume normal operation. This is useful for power saving and quickly reactivating the system.
  • Set to Factory Default Function: A long press (ten seconds) on the button will reset the adapter to its factory default settings. This can be a crucial troubleshooting step for resolving connectivity issues or reconfiguring the device.

For the transmitter, the button also includes a Next Network Function. A short press on the transmitter's button will cause it to give up its current associated network and attempt to join the next available network. This is particularly useful in environments with multiple receivers. For example, if one transmitter is connected to a receiver attached to a display, and another TV is connected to a second receiver in the room, pressing the transmitter's button will switch the audio and video output from the current display to the other. Each press will cycle through available receivers, allowing the user to direct the content to different displays. The system can support a maximum of ten receivers in the same room. It's important to note that pressing this button on the transmitter will temporarily interrupt the current audio/video connection as it searches for a new network. If only one network is available, the transmitter will eventually reconnect to it after completing its search.

For the receiver, the button offers a Next Source Function. A short press on the receiver's button, if other transmitter sources are available in its network, will cause the receiver to disconnect from the current video connection and attempt to connect with the next available source. This is beneficial in scenarios where two or more transmitters are present in the room and associated with one receiver. The user can switch between different video sources by simply pressing the receiver's button. Each press will cycle through the available transmitters. The network can support a maximum of 16 transmitters. Unlike the transmitter's button, pressing the receiver's button will not interrupt the current audio/video connection if there are no other transmitters available in the network; in such a case, the button will have no effect.

The DVDO Air 4K is designed for robust performance, featuring ESD protection of ±8kV (Air-gap discharge) and ±4kV (Contact discharge), which helps protect the sensitive internal components from electrostatic discharge. The device is powered by 5V/1A DC, compatible with US/EU standards, and CE/FCC/UL certified, ensuring safety and compliance. Its compact dimensions and plastic chassis make it lightweight and easy to integrate into various setups. The black silkscreen color provides a sleek and discreet appearance. The device is designed to operate within a temperature range of 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F) and can be stored in temperatures from -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F), with relative humidity between 20% and 90% (non-condensing). Power consumption is minimal, with the transmitter using 3W and the receiver also using 3W, contributing to energy efficiency.

In summary, the DVDO Air 4K is a user-friendly and reliable wireless HDMI extender that prioritizes uncompressed 4K video and audio transmission with near-zero latency. Its intuitive LED indicators and multi-function buttons provide clear status feedback and flexible control over network connections and source switching, making it a versatile solution for modern media environments. The robust design and safety certifications further ensure a dependable and secure user experience.
