Overview

This document serves as a user manual for the Dyson Micro 1.5kg vacuum cleaner, providing comprehensive instructions on its operation, maintenance, and care. The Dyson Micro 1.5kg is a lightweight and compact cordless vacuum designed for efficient cleaning of hard floors and various surfaces.

Function Description

The Dyson Micro 1.5kg is a cordless stick vacuum cleaner engineered for effective dust and debris removal. Its primary function is to provide powerful suction in a lightweight form factor, making it suitable for quick clean-ups and reaching confined spaces. The vacuum operates with a Micro Fluffy™ cleaner head, specifically designed for hard floors, which uses soft woven nylon and anti-static carbon fibre filaments to capture fine dust.

The machine offers different power modes to suit various cleaning needs. The "Eco mode" provides an optimum balance of power and run time for everyday cleaning, while the "Max mode" delivers maximum power for intensive cleaning of ground-in dirt. The power button allows for continuous cleaning without needing to hold down a trigger.

The vacuum is equipped with a removable wand for extended reach and can be converted into a handheld unit for cleaning upholstery, stairs, and car interiors. It comes with a range of tools to enhance its versatility, including a Combi-crevice tool, Light pipe crevice tool, Mini motorised tool, Worktop tool, and a Wand clip for convenient tool storage.

Usage Features

To begin using the Dyson Micro 1.5kg, users are advised to fully charge the machine and any additional batteries upon opening the box and after every clean. The charger can be connected directly to the charging point on the base of the handle or to a dock, if supplied. An LED light on the handle indicates charging status, pulsing blue when charging and turning off when fully charged. The battery is designed to be left on charge, and a full charge can take up to four hours. The machine will not operate or charge if the ambient temperature is below 5°C (41°F) to protect the motor and battery.

Operating the vacuum is straightforward. Pressing the power button once initiates continuous cleaning. The power modes can be switched by pressing the mode button, allowing users to select between Eco mode for balanced performance and Max mode for powerful suction.

When vacuuming, it's important to ensure the underside of the cleaner head or tool is clean and free from any objects that may cause damage. The machine is primarily designed for hard floors. While the brush bar can damage certain flooring or cause some rug materials to fuzz, users can vacuum without the motorised floor tool for such surfaces.

The bin should be emptied as soon as the dirt reaches the MAX mark to maintain optimal performance. To empty the bin, the wand is first removed by pressing the red release button. Holding the vacuum over a bin, the red bin release button is pushed to open the bottom of the bin, allowing dirt to fall out as the shroud slides down. If the bin doesn't empty completely, it can be removed from the machine by pressing the red button on the bin runner and sliding it off. To minimise dust contact during emptying, users can cover the bin tightly in a dust-proof bag. Reassembly involves sliding the bin back onto the runner, ensuring it's securely in position, and pushing the bin base upwards until it clicks into place, then reconnecting the wand.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring the Dyson Micro 1.5kg performs optimally. This includes cleaning the bin, washing the filter, washing the brush bar, and cleaning the tools.

Cleaning the bin: If the bin requires cleaning, it should be emptied first as described above. The bin can then be removed from the machine by pressing the red button on the bin runner. The bin should only be cleaned with a damp cloth, and no part of the machine should be put in a dishwasher or cleaned with detergents, polishes, or air fresheners. After cleaning, the bin and seals must be completely dry before being replaced. To replace, insert the spine onto the bin runner and push the bin base upwards until it clicks into place.

Washing the filter: The filter should be washed at least once a month to maintain the best performance. Before washing, gently tap the filter over a bin to remove loose dust. To remove the filter, turn it anti-clockwise and pull it away from the machine. Wash the outside of the filter by rubbing with fingers to remove dirt, and carefully rinse the inside without allowing water to fill the filter. Repeat until the water runs clear. After washing, shake the filter firmly to remove excess water until no water comes from it. Place the filter end up in a well-ventilated, warm place to dry for at least 24 hours. Do not use a tumble dryer, microwave, or naked flame to dry the filter. It is critical that the filter is completely dry before refitting, as a damp filter can damage the machine. To refit, slide it onto the handle and turn it clockwise until it clicks into place. More frequent washing may be needed if vacuuming fine dust, using Max mode frequently, or using the machine with a full bin.

Washing the brush bar: To maintain optimum performance, the brush bar should be checked and washed regularly. First, press the cleaner head release button to remove it from the wand. Pull the brush bar off the end cap and set the end cap aside, as it should not be washed. Hold the brush bar under cold tap water and gently rub to remove lint or dirt, continuing until the water runs clear. Stand the brush bar upright and leave it to dry for at least 24 hours. Ensure the brush bar is completely dry before refitting. Reattach the end cap to the brush bar and slide it back into the cleaner head, then rotate the end cap until it clips securely into position. The cleaner head housing itself is not washable and should only be wiped with a damp lint-free cloth.

Cleaning the tools: The various tools should also be cleaned regularly. Like other components, they should not be put in a dishwasher or cleaned with detergents, polishes, or air fresheners. Instead, wipe them with a damp, lint-free cloth, taking care not to touch the connector end. Ensure all tools are completely dry before use.

Clearing blockages: If the machine detects a blockage, the motor will pulse six times, and the machine will not operate until the blockage is cleared. If an attempt is made to use the machine while the motor is pulsing, it will automatically cut out. Before looking for blockages, allow the machine to cool down and disconnect it from the charger. Be careful not to touch the power button or trigger, and be aware of sharp objects. Do not use the machine while looking for blockages to prevent injury.

Looking after your machine: Beyond specific cleaning tasks, general care involves wiping the machine with a damp lint-free cloth if it's dusty. Regularly check for blockages in the cleaner head, tools, and the main body of the machine. To prolong battery life and ensure best performance, use Eco mode frequently. The serial numbers for the machine, battery, and charger can be found on the bottom of the machine and used for registration.
