Overview

The Earthworks TC25 is an omnidirectional (pressure) pre-polarized condenser microphone, meticulously designed and constructed to deliver years of superior audio performance. This microphone is directly coupled to a dedicated wideband, low output impedance preamplifier, ensuring pristine sound capture. It requires a standard 48V phantom power supply for operation.

The TC25 boasts a linear free-field frequency response, fast impulse response, and very low handling noise, making it an excellent choice for a variety of recording applications. Its uniform polar pattern and high SPL handling capabilities further enhance its versatility, allowing it to capture sound accurately without distortion even in loud environments. A notable feature is its complete absence of proximity effect, which means the microphone's tonal balance remains consistent regardless of the distance from the sound source.

Operating the Earthworks TC25 is straightforward. To use the microphone, simply connect it to a microphone preamplifier that supplies 48V phantom power, using a standard XLR microphone cable. It is recommended to allow up to one minute for the microphone to settle after connection. Plugging the microphone in "hot" (with phantom power already present at the input) is actually preferred for faster settling and will not damage the microphone. As with any phantom-powered microphone, a "pop" may occur when it is plugged in or powered up, so it is advisable to mute the signal to speakers or headphones when phantom power is first applied to prevent any sudden loud noises.

The TC25 is specifically engineered for capturing drums and percussion, and it is the model included in the Earthworks Drumkit™ System. Its inherent brilliance makes it an ideal choice for drum overheads, percussion instruments, Leslie speakers, guitars, and bass. Beyond its specialized applications, the TC25 is a highly versatile microphone suitable for general studio use, offering exceptional value. Its design ensures no handling noise and no proximity effect, making it very forgiving in terms of placement. A mounting clip is included with the microphone for convenient setup. The microphone has no removable parts, simplifying its design and maintenance.

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Earthworks TC25 microphone, it is important to follow a few simple care guidelines. The microphone is a precision instrument, and proper handling will protect your investment. Avoid touching the front protective screen, as this can potentially affect its performance or introduce smudges. It is crucial never to attempt to disassemble the microphone; it is not designed to be opened, and any attempt to do so could cause damage and void the warranty.

Protect the microphone from extreme heat and condensing humidity. If you are bringing the microphone in from a cold environment, allow it to warm up in its case before use to prevent condensation from forming inside the unit, which could harm its internal components. Rough handling should also be avoided, as it can damage the microphone even if no visible marks are left on the exterior. When the TC25 is not in use, always store it in its case to protect it from dust, impacts, and environmental factors. By adhering to these simple care instructions, you can ensure that your Earthworks TC25 continues to deliver top-tier performance for many years.
