Overview

This document is an owner's manual for an Offset LED Patio Umbrella, available in models PBU23001, PBU23002, PBU23003, and PBU23004, manufactured by EAST OAK. It provides essential information for assembly, operation, maintenance, and safety to ensure proper use and longevity of the product.

The primary function of this device is to provide shade and ambient lighting for outdoor spaces such as courtyards, patios, outdoor gardens, and beaches. It is designed to protect users from the sun, making outdoor activities more comfortable. The integrated LED lights allow for use both during the day and at night, extending its utility beyond daylight hours.

Function Description:

The Offset LED Patio Umbrella is a versatile outdoor shading solution equipped with solar-powered LED lights. Its main purpose is to offer protection from direct sunlight, creating a comfortable environment for relaxation or dining outdoors. The offset design means the main pole is positioned to the side, allowing for unobstructed space beneath the canopy. The LED lights, powered by a solar panel, provide illumination for evening use, enhancing the ambiance of any outdoor setting. The umbrella features a crank handle mechanism for easy opening and closing of the canopy, and an inclining function to adjust the angle of the canopy according to the sun's position throughout the day.

Usage Features:

The umbrella is designed for ease of use and adaptability.

  • Solar-Powered LED Lights: The umbrella incorporates 40 built-in solar LED lights and a central LED light. These lights are powered by a solar panel located at the top of the umbrella. Before first use, the batteries require at least 8 hours of direct sunlight to charge fully. This ensures the lights can operate for 6-7 hours simultaneously, providing ample illumination for evening gatherings. It is crucial to set the light switch to the "OFF" position during charging to maximize battery lifespan and performance.
  • Easy Opening and Closing: A crank handle mechanism allows for effortless opening and closing of the canopy. To open, the crank handle is turned clockwise until the canopy is fully extended. To close, the crank handle is turned gently in a counterclockwise direction until the canopy is fully closed. Users are advised not to over-wind the crank handle once the canopy is fully opened or closed to prevent damage.
  • Adjustable Angle (Inclining Function): The umbrella features an inclining function, providing flexibility to adjust the canopy's angle. This allows users to easily reposition the shade throughout the day as the sun moves, ensuring continuous protection. The lift clamp mechanism facilitates extending and lowering the umbrella arm, and a lock cover secures it in place.
  • Wind Vent: The canopy is designed with an added wind vent at the top. This feature allows for airflow, which helps to reduce wind pressure on the umbrella, enhancing its stability and preventing damage during moderate wind conditions.
  • Robust Structure: The umbrella is built with a 2.28-inch diameter Ferro pole and 8 heavy-duty ribs. The frame is constructed from rust-free powder-coated steel, ensuring strong wind resistance and durability, and protecting against wear from sun exposure.
  • Canopy Material: The canopy is made from 100% polyester fabric, which is fade-resistant, UV-protective, and water repellent. This material is designed to keep users comfortable by offering protection from the sun and light showers.
  • Base Requirements: The umbrella requires a weighted base for stability. The supplied cross base needs 4 individual base weights, each weighing at least 48 lbs (22 kg), for a minimum combined weight of 192 lbs (88 kg). This is an additional purchase and is critical for securing the umbrella and preventing damage or personal injury. Without adequate base weight, the umbrella is prone to tipping over, especially in windy conditions.
  • Special Installation Option: For users with a suitable timber deck, the cross base can be secured directly to the deck using 2" (5cm) M8 coach bolts or deck screws (not supplied). When using this method, it is important to fix into joists or bearers, not just the decking boards, and to exercise extreme caution, never opening or using the umbrella in winds greater than 5mph.

Maintenance Features:

Proper maintenance is crucial for extending the life and performance of the Offset LED Patio Umbrella.

  • Protective Storage Cover: To prolong the life of the polyester fabric and minimize fading, it is highly recommended to use a protective storage cover whenever the umbrella is not in use.
  • Storage During Bad Weather: During extended periods of bad weather, particularly in winter months, the umbrella should be stored indoors in a dry place to protect it from harsh elements and preserve its condition.
  • Canopy Cleaning: The polyester fabric is treated to be dirt and shower-resistant (though not waterproof). If the umbrella gets wet, it should be allowed to dry completely before storage to prevent mildew or damage. For cleaning, the fabric can be brushed with a soft brush, and then a damp cloth with mild detergent can be used to remove stubborn stains.
  • Securing When Not in Use: Always close and secure the umbrella using the Velcro straps provided to fasten the canopy to the frame when it is not in use or during any strong wind event, including gusting wind and rain. This prevents the umbrella from being damaged or causing injury.
  • Battery Replacement: The rechargeable batteries in the LED umbrella should be replaced at least once a year, or when the light output begins to fade. The umbrella uses 3 AA size 1.2V 1200mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries. When replacing batteries, ensure correct polarity, and do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries (Alkaline, Standard Carbon-Zinc, or rechargeable Nickel Cadmium/Lithium) in the solar panel. Batteries should be recycled or disposed of according to local guidelines, and never incinerated.
  • Sliding Mechanism Lubrication: A regular application of silicone spray to the sliding mechanisms will help ensure smooth operation of the umbrella's moving parts.
  • Pre-Assembly Check: Before assembly, all parts and components should be checked for damage or missing items. Any issues should be reported to customer service immediately.
  • Assembly Precautions: Some parts may have sharp edges, so wearing protective gloves during assembly is advised. When using power tools, the gear should be set to the minimum to avoid damaging parts. Assembly should be done on a soft surface, such as a drop sheet or rug, to prevent scratching the components.

Safety Guidelines:

The manual emphasizes several critical safety guidelines to prevent damage to the umbrella, personal injury, or property damage.

  • Wind Conditions: The umbrella is designed solely for sun protection, not wind protection. It should NEVER be opened or operated in wind conditions exceeding 5mph (8kph). The tilt function should also not be used in any wind, even a light breeze.
  • Closing When Unattended: The umbrella must always be closed and secured when not in use or unattended. If no one is sitting under it, it should be closed.
  • Crank Handle Force: Excessive force should never be used on the crank handle when opening or closing the umbrella.
  • Base Weight Requirement: The umbrella must never be opened or operated without first placing the required base weights in each open section of the cross base. The minimum base weight required is 192 lbs (88 kg). More weight is always better than less.
  • Lock Cover for Closing: When closing the umbrella, it is CRITICAL to slide the lock cover away from the vertical lift mechanism BEFORE lowering the umbrella arm.
  • Solar Panel Charging: Ensure the switch on the rib is set to the "OFF" (O) position during charging. If the lights are accidentally left on during the day, the batteries will not charge, and the lights will not operate at night.

By adhering to these usage, maintenance, and safety guidelines, users can ensure a long-lasting and enjoyable experience with their Offset LED Patio Umbrella.
