Overview

The Durant Totalizer is a versatile counting device available in several models, including standard totalizers, extended temperature range totalizers, and totalizers with backlights. It is designed for simple UP counting applications and features a high-contrast, eight-digit LCD display.

Function Description

The primary function of the Durant Totalizer is to count events. It supports both low-speed and high-speed counting inputs, making it suitable for a variety of applications, from contact closures to high-frequency sensors. The device is equipped with a front-panel reset button, which can be enabled or disabled, and also offers a remote reset terminal for external control. The totalizer display features lead-zero blanking, and no decimal point is available.

  • To enable, install a jumper wire from terminal 5 to ground (terminal 1).

Usage Features

Installation:

  • The totalizer is designed for panel mounting and meets NEMA 4X standards when installed with the provided gasket.
  • Mounting clips are used to secure the device in the panel cutout.

Wiring Recommendations:

  • Cable: Use a two-conductor shielded cable for count sources, with the shield connected to earth ground at one end only. Avoid running cables in conduits with high inductive loads.
  • Relay Coil Suppression: If a relay contact is used as a count source, suppress the relay coil with an RC network (for AC coils) or a diode (for DC coils).
  • Mounting Location: Avoid mounting near solenoids or other inductive devices. Ensure adequate ventilation to maintain operation within temperature specifications.

Count Inputs:

  • Users must decide whether to use the high-speed (Terminal 3) or low-speed (Terminal 2) input based on the application's requirements.
  • Solid state input (Terminal 3) requires a current-sourcing sensor and counts on the positive-going edge.
  • Contact input (Terminal 2) is for contact closures to ground and counts on the negative-going edge.

Reset Functionality:

  • The front-panel reset button is disabled by default. To enable it, a jumper wire must be installed between Terminal 5 and Terminal 1 (Ground).
  • The remote reset terminal (Terminal 4) is always active, regardless of the front-panel button's status.

Backlight (if applicable):

  • Connect Terminal 7 to power and Terminal 6 to common to light the display.

Program Mode:

  • This model does not have a program mode; it is a straightforward counting device.

Maintenance Features

Battery Replacement:

  • The internal 3V Lithium battery (Part: 36367-202) has a life expectancy of 5 years+.
  • Battery Safety Guidelines:
    • Do not stack or jumble batteries.
    • Do not heat batteries above 95°C.
    • Do not disassemble, recharge, or deform batteries.
    • Do not solder to batteries.
    • Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
    • Insert battery with correct polarity.

Warranty:

  • Eaton provides a one-year limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship from the date of shipment. This warranty is void if the product is altered, misused, taken apart, or abused.
  • For repairs or replacements, contact your local Durant distributor or call 1-800-540-9242 to obtain a Return Goods Authorization (RGA) number. Charges apply for repairs after the warranty expires.
