Overview

This document is an Owner's Manual and Installation Manual for a Mobile Type Air Conditioner (Local Air Conditioner) from Eco-Air, model EPA-09CRN8.

Function Description

The Eco-Air EPA-09CRN8 is a mobile air conditioner designed for cooling, fan, and dry (dehumidification) operations. Some models may also include heating (heat pump or electrical heat) and auto modes. It is a portable unit with wheels for easy movement. The unit is designed to provide localized air conditioning and dehumidification. It features a control panel for direct operation and can also be controlled via a remote controller (details for which are in a separate "Remote Controller Instruction" manual).

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: EPA-09CRN8
  • Decibels (Indoors): High 55, Med 54, Low 51.5
  • Refrigerant: R32. The manual explicitly states that R32 refrigerant does not contribute to the thinning of the ozone layer. For models using R290 refrigerant, specific safety precautions regarding flammability and minimum room area are provided, though R290 is noted as "Not applicable for North America" for this particular manual.
  • Cooling Capacity: 9,000 BTU/hr
  • Recommended Surface (based on conditions): 10 m² (108 sq.ft.) max.
  • Voltage: 115 V, 60 Hz
  • Net Weight: 22.2 kg (48.9 lb)
  • Ambient Temperature Range for Unit Operating:
    • Cool Mode: 17-35°C (62-95°F)
    • Dry Mode: 13-35°C (55-95°F)
    • Heat (pump heat mode): 5-30°C (41-86°F)
    • Heat (electrical heat mode): ≤30°C (86°F)
  • Exhaust Duct: The energy rating and noise information are based on standard installation using an un-extended exhaust duct without a window slider adaptor. Some models may support extended exhaust ducts (e.g., 3 meters with two ducts of different diameters), but their energy rating and noise information are not assessed under those conditions. The manual recommends operating the unit at room temperatures below 35°C.
  • Refrigerant Charge (for R290 models, not applicable for North America): The manual provides a table linking the amount of refrigerant (kg) to the minimum room area (m²) required for safe operation, ranging from >0.0836 kg (5 m²) to >0.3135 kg (15 m²).

Usage Features

  • Operating Modes: The unit supports COOL, FAN, DRY, and AUTO modes. Some models also include HEAT mode.
  • Temperature Adjustment: Users can adjust temperature settings in 1°C/2°F (or 1°F) increments within a range of 17°C/62°F to 30°C/88°F (or 86°F). The control panel can display temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius, convertible by pressing and holding the Up and Down buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.
  • Fan Speed: In COOL, HEAT, and AUTO modes, the unit operates the fan speed automatically. In FAN mode, users can choose the fan speed via the remote controller. In DRY mode, the fan operates at LOW speed and cannot be adjusted. Some models feature a "Constant Fan" function in cooling or dry mode, which can be toggled on/off by pressing a button for 3 seconds.
  • LED Display: Shows set temperature in cool, heat, or auto mode, and room temperature in DRY and FAN modes. It also displays error codes (EO-EEPROM error, E1-Room temperature sensor error, E2-Evaporator temperature sensor error, E3-Condenser temperature sensor error, E4-Display panel communication error, EC-Refrigerant leakage detection malfunction) and a protection code (P1-Bottom tray is full).
  • Wireless Operation (on some models): Allows for wireless connection setup. Pressing the POWER button for 3 seconds initiates 'AP' mode for connection. Successful connection is indicated by the wireless indicator illuminating.
  • FRESH Operation (on some models): Initiated by pressing MODE and DOWN (-) buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. This feature energizes an ion generator to purify the air.
  • SLEEP/ECO Operation (remote control ONLY): This feature adjusts the set temperature gradually over time (increasing in cooling, decreasing in heating) and maintains it for 7 hours before returning to the original setting. Unavailable in FAN or DRY mode.
  • FOLLOW ME/TEMP SENSING Feature (remote control ONLY): The remote control acts as a remote thermostat, allowing for precise temperature control based on its location.
  • AUTO-RESTART: If power is cut, the unit will restart with its previous function settings once power resumes.
  • AIR FLOW DIRECTION ADJUSTMENT: The louver can be manually adjusted to the desired position.
  • WATER DRAINAGE: The unit has a bottom tray that collects water. When full (P1 protection code), it beeps and stops air conditioning/dehumidification. Users must drain the collected water via a drain hose. Continuous drainage is possible by connecting a drain hose to the lower drain plug.
  • Installation: The manual provides detailed instructions for two types of installation: Hung Window or Sliding Window Installation and Wall Installation. It includes a list of accessories such as unit adaptor, exhaust hose, window slider adaptors, foam seals, security bracket, and drain hose.

Maintenance Features

  • Safety Precautions: Emphasizes unplugging before cleaning, avoiding flammable liquids, not washing under running water, and not operating with a damaged power cord.
  • Air Filter Cleaning: The air filter should be cleaned every 2 weeks for optimal performance. Operating without a filter can lead to clogging and reduced performance.
  • Unit Cleaning: The unit should be cleaned with a damp, lint-free cloth and mild detergent, then dried with a dry, lint-free cloth. Harsh cleansers, wax, or polish should be avoided.
  • Storage: Before storing, the unit's water collection tray must be drained, and the appliance should run on FAN mode for 12 hours in a warm room to dry it and prevent mold. The air filter should be cleaned and reinstalled, and batteries removed from the remote control. The unit should be stored in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight or extreme heat.
  • Troubleshooting Tips: The manual includes a table for common problems, possible causes, and solutions, such as P1 protection code (full water collection tray), unit not turning on (room temperature too low in COOL mode), EEPROM error, blocked air filter, disconnected/blocked exhaust hose, low refrigerant, incorrect temperature setting, open windows/doors, heat sources in the room, uneven ground, and gurgling sounds (normal refrigerant flow).
