The SC9-TOCCATA is a CompactPCI® Serial CPU card designed for high-performance industrial and embedded computing applications. It features an 11th Generation Intel® mobile workstation XEON® W or Core™ processor (code name Tiger Lake H), offering robust processing capabilities for demanding environments.
Function Description:
The SC9-TOCCATA serves as a system slot controller in a CompactPCI® Serial system, acting as a root hub for various I/O channels. It is designed to be mechanically compliant with CompactPCI® Classic and adheres to the PICMG® CPCIS.0 standard for a well-established card slot system. The board leverages PCI Express®, SATA, Gigabit Ethernet, and USB serial data lines for high-speed communication. It provides up to six high-speed backplane connectors (P1-P6) to distribute I/O channels to up to eight peripheral slots in a CompactPCI® Serial system. The SC9-TOCCATA is a native CompactPCI® Serial CPU card, making it suitable for pure CPCI Serial environments and enabling the construction of powerful industrial systems due to its extensive backplane capabilities.
Important Technical Specifications:

A second memory controller channel is wired to a 260-pin ECC SODIMM socket, allowing for an additional 32GB of system memory expansion (max. module height = 1.25 inch). Intel® Total Memory Encryption (TME) with AES 128-bit encryption protects memory contents.
- PCI Express®: Twenty PCIe® Gen4 lanes from the processor, organized as two x8 links for backplane fat pipe slots and a x4 link for the HSE1 expansion connector. The backplane connectors are Gen3 qualified, but the board design is ready for Gen4/5 with future CompactPCI® Serial specification R3.0. The RM590E PCH provides additional PCIe® Gen3 lanes for Ethernet controllers, HSE2, and backplane connectors.
- USB: Twelve USB 3 ports in total. Three USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 (10Gbps) Type-C ports on the front panel, multiplexed with DisplayPort 1.4 Alternate Mode, supported by USB-PD controllers (5V/3A). Eight USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 ports from the PCH are wired to backplane connectors. One USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 port from the PCH is available via the HSE1 connector for mezzanine expansion. All USB3 channels are also USB2 capable.
- Ethernet: Three RJ45 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports via I226-IT NICs (1000BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 10BASE-T). Port 1 is vPro™/AMT (WoL) capable, while Ports 2 and 3 support TCC/TSN, PPS/PPM.
- Graphics: Intel® Xº (Gen 12) graphics and media controller supporting up to four DisplayPort™ 1.4a monitors. Three Type-C receptacles on the front panel provide DP Alt Mode. A fourth DisplayPort™ is wired to the HSE2 mezzanine connector.
- Mass Storage: The base board does not include mass storage. EKF offers low-profile mezzanine modules (e.g., S48-SSD with two M.2 sockets for PCIe® SSDs) or peripheral boards for SATA or PCIe® based mass storage via backplane card slots.
- Mezzanine Expansion: Equipped with high-speed local expansion interface connectors (HSE1, HSE2, N-EXP). HSE1 is a PCIe® Gen4 x4 link and 10Gbps USB3 port. HSE2 provides four PCIe® Gen3 lanes (configurable link width) and a 4th DisplayPort video output. N-EXP is a legacy interface (e.g., HD Audio, UART). Mezzanine connectors support board-to-board heights of 10.0mm (S20, S40, S48), 10.8mm (S80, S82), and 18.7mm (SCJ, SCL side cards 8HP assembly).
- Platform Controller Hub (PCH): RM590E (Mobile Intel® 500 Series, industrial with Intel® vPro™) connected via DMI x8 Gen3.0, providing up to 30 high-speed I/O ports.
- Trusted Platform Module (TPM): Infineon Optiga™ SLX 9670 TPM2.0 connected via SPI, supporting cryptographic algorithms and compliant with TCG test suites.
- SPI Flash: Two non-volatile serial Flash memory devices (128Mbit each, 32MB total) for UEFI/BIOS and firmware storage.
- Real-Time Clock (RTC): Integrated into the PCH, backed by a CR2032 lithium coin cell for over 5 years of autonomy.
- Watchdog: Two watchdogs: one integrated into the PCH (TCO watchdog) and a second programmable watchdog defined in a PLD, with time-out delays of 2, 10, 50, and 255 seconds.
Usage Features:
- Flexible Configuration: Supports various mezzanine modules and side cards for tailored I/O and mass storage configurations.
- Industrial Grade: Designed and manufactured in Germany with ISO 9001 certified quality management, offering long-term availability and rugged solutions.
