Overview

This document serves as a user manual for the Electrolux ESA42110SW dishwasher, providing comprehensive instructions for its safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Electrolux ESA42110SW is a household-type dishwasher designed for cleaning dishes and tableware in an indoor environment. It operates by circulating water and detergent to remove food residues, followed by rinsing and drying phases. The appliance features a water softener system to manage water hardness, which is crucial for optimal washing results and preventing limescale buildup. It also includes a rinse aid dispenser to enhance drying performance and prevent streaks. The dishwasher offers various programmes tailored to different levels of soil and types of load, ensuring efficient use of water and energy. A key feature is the Auto Off function, which automatically deactivates the appliance when not in operation to reduce energy consumption. The AirDry function further improves drying results by automatically opening the door during the drying phase.

Usage Features

The dishwasher's control panel is intuitive, featuring an on/off button, a program button, a delay button, and an option button, along with a display and various indicators. These indicators provide visual feedback on the appliance's status, such as salt and rinse aid refill needs, and the current washing, rinsing, and drying phases.

Before first use, it is essential to adjust the water softener level according to the local water hardness, fill the salt container, and fill the rinse aid dispenser. A preliminary programme without detergent or dishes should be run to remove any processing residuals.

To start a programme, the user first activates the appliance, ensures it is in programme selection mode, and then closes the door. Programmes are selected by pressing the program button until the desired programme indicator is on, with the display showing the programme duration. Optional features like GlassCare, ExtraPower, and ExtraHygiene can be activated to customize the wash cycle. GlassCare protects delicate items by moderating wash temperatures, ExtraPower enhances cleaning results by increasing wash temperature and duration, and ExtraHygiene provides superior cleaning by maintaining high temperatures during the final rinse.

The appliance supports a delay start function, allowing users to postpone the programme start for up to 24 hours. Once a programme begins, the running phase indicator illuminates, and the display counts down the remaining time. Opening the door during a running programme will pause the cycle, which resumes once the door is closed. The AirDry function automatically opens the door during the drying phase, but users are cautioned not to close it within two minutes of automatic opening to prevent damage. AirDry can also be deactivated if desired, particularly if children have access to the appliance.

Loading the baskets correctly is vital for optimal results. Hollow items should face downwards, glass items should not touch each other, and lighter items should be placed in the upper basket. The spray arms must be able to rotate freely. The manual advises against pre-rinsing dishes by hand to save water and energy, suggesting instead to remove large food residues and use programmes with a prewash phase when necessary. For heavily soiled cookware, soaking or light scouring is recommended.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the dishwasher's longevity and performance. The manual emphasizes checking and cleaning the filters and spray arms regularly. Dirty filters and clogged spray arms can significantly reduce washing results.

Internal cleaning involves wiping the appliance interior and door, including the rubber gasket, with a soft damp cloth. Abrasive products, sharp tools, strong chemicals, or solvents should be avoided. To prevent limescale and grease buildup, it is recommended to use a cleaning product designed for dishwashers at least once every two months, or to run long-duration programmes regularly. The appliance also features an automatic cleaning programme for optimal internal hygiene.

The filter system, composed of three parts, needs to be disassembled, washed, and reassembled correctly. Foreign objects found in the filters or sump should be removed manually to prevent damage to the drain pump and maintain cleaning performance.

The lower and upper spray arms should also be cleaned regularly to prevent holes from clogging. This involves removing them, washing them under running water, and using a thin pointed tool to clear any particles from the holes before reattaching them securely.

For external cleaning, a moist soft cloth and neutral detergents are recommended, again avoiding abrasive products or solvents.

The water softener system requires regular salt refills, indicated by the salt indicator. The rinse aid dispenser also needs refilling when its indicator illuminates. The manual provides detailed instructions on how to fill both the salt container and the rinse aid dispenser, including precautions to prevent corrosion or excessive foam. It also advises on adjusting the rinse aid level for optimal drying results and explains how to deactivate the rinse aid dispenser if multi-tabs are used and drying results are satisfactory.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common issues, including problems with activation, programme start, water filling or draining, and alarm codes. For issues not covered, or if problems persist, users are advised to contact an Authorised Service Centre.
