Overview

This document is a user manual for the Electrolux ESM48210SX dishwasher, providing comprehensive instructions for its safe operation, maintenance, and optimal performance.

Function Description

The Electrolux ESM48210SX is a household-type dishwasher designed for cleaning dishes and tableware in an indoor environment. It can be used in various settings such as offices, hotel guest rooms, bed & breakfast guest rooms, and farm guest houses, provided the usage levels do not exceed average domestic use. The appliance operates within a water pressure range of 0.5 (0.05) to 10 (1.0) bar (MPa) and can accommodate up to 14 place settings.

The dishwasher features a water softener system that removes minerals from the water supply, which is crucial for achieving good washing results and protecting the appliance. The water softener level can be adjusted based on the local water hardness. The appliance also includes a regeneration process for the softener device, which is an automatic part of normal dishwasher operation and ensures continuous softening.

Several programmes are available to suit different types of loads and degrees of soil, including:

  • ECO: The most efficient programme for normal soil, optimizing water and energy consumption.
  • 160min: For normal to heavy, dried-on soil.
  • 90min: For normal, lightly dried-on soil.
  • 60min: For fresh, lightly dried-on soil.
  • 30min: For fresh soil.
  • AUTO: Automatically adjusts temperature and water quantity based on soil degree and load size.
  • Machine Care: Designed to clean the inside of the appliance, removing limescale and grease buildup.
  • Quick Rinse: For quickly rinsing off food remains and preventing odours without detergent.

The appliance incorporates an "Auto Off" function to decrease energy consumption by automatically deactivating when a programme is complete or after 5 minutes of inactivity.

Usage Features

The dishwasher is equipped with a control panel that includes an on/off button, programme button, option button, delay button, and a display with various indicators. These indicators provide information on salt and rinse aid levels, washing, rinsing, and drying phases, and delay start.

Users can select from several options to enhance washing and drying results:

  • GlassCare: Protects delicate items, especially glassware, by preventing rapid temperature changes and reducing the wash temperature to 45 °C.
  • ExtraPower: Improves washing results by increasing wash temperature and duration.
  • ExtraHygiene: Provides better cleaning by maintaining a temperature between 65 and 70 °C for at least 10 minutes during the final rinsing phase.

The appliance supports a delay start function, allowing users to postpone the programme start from 1 to 24 hours.

For optimal loading, the manual advises arranging items in the baskets without touching or covering each other to ensure complete water access. Hollow items should be placed with openings facing downwards. Light items should be secured in the upper basket to prevent movement. The cutlery drawer is designed for cutlery and small items. The upper basket can be moved to a lower level to accommodate larger items in the lower basket.

The appliance requires specific dishwasher salt, rinse aid, and detergent. The salt container should be filled with rough salt designed for dishwashers, and the rinse aid dispenser filled up to the "MAX" mark. The detergent dispenser can hold powder or tablet detergent, with a small quantity recommended for the inner part of the door if the programme includes a prewash phase. The rinse aid empty notification can be activated or deactivated.

The AirDry function automatically opens the appliance door during the drying phase to improve drying results and reduce energy consumption. Users are advised not to close the door within 2 minutes of automatic opening to prevent damage. This function can be deactivated if children have access to the appliance.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the dishwasher's performance and longevity. The manual outlines several cleaning procedures:

  • Internal cleaning: The appliance interior should be cleaned with a soft damp cloth. A cleaning product designed for dishwashers should be used at least once every two months, preferably with the automatic cleaning programme, to prevent limescale and grease buildup.
  • Filter system cleaning: The filter system, composed of three parts (flat filter, filter B, and filter C), should be checked and cleaned after each use. Foreign objects such as glass pieces, plastic, bones, or toothpicks must be removed to prevent damage to the drain pump and maintain cleaning performance.
  • Spray arm cleaning: The lower and ceiling spray arms should be cleaned regularly to prevent soil from clogging the holes. The lower spray arm can be pulled upwards for removal and cleaning, while the ceiling spray arm requires detaching a mounting element. A thin pointed tool, such as a toothpick, can be used to clear clogged holes.
  • External cleaning: The appliance exterior should be cleaned with a moist soft cloth and neutral detergents. Abrasive products, sharp tools, strong chemicals, scourers, or solvents should not be used. The door, including the rubber gasket, should be wiped clean weekly.

The manual also provides a troubleshooting guide for common problems, including issues with activation, programme start, water filling, water draining, anti-flood device activation, and various alarm codes (e.g., i10, i11, i20, i30, i41-i44, i51-i59, i5A-i5F, i61, i69, iC0, iC3, iF1). It also addresses unsatisfactory washing and drying results, such as stains, water drops, foam, rust, detergent residues, odours, limescale deposits, and damaged tableware. For problems not covered, users are advised to contact an Authorised Service Centre.
