Overview

This document provides operating instructions for the Electrolux EWD 1214 I washer dryer, covering its functions, usage, and maintenance features.

Function Description

The Electrolux EWD 1214 I is a versatile appliance designed to handle both washing and drying of laundry. It features a detergent dispenser drawer for easy loading of washing agents. The machine offers a range of wash programmes tailored for different fabric types and soil levels, including cottons, linens, synthetics, mixed fabrics, delicates, and wool. It also includes specific drying programmes to achieve various levels of dryness, from "iron dry" to "store dry."

Key functions include:

  • Washing: The machine performs a complete wash cycle, including prewash (if selected), main wash, and multiple rinses.
  • Spinning: It extracts water from the laundry through spinning, with adjustable spin speeds to protect delicate garments.
  • Drying: The appliance dries laundry using a timed drying system, incorporating a cooling phase at the end to prevent creasing.
  • Rinse Hold: This function allows the machine to stop with water in the drum after the last rinse, preventing creasing if clothes are not removed immediately.
  • Drainage: It can drain water from the drum, either as part of a wash cycle or as a standalone function.

Usage Features

The washer dryer is designed for user-friendly operation, with a clear control panel and a programme selector dial.

Control Panel Elements:

  • Detergent Dispenser Drawer (1): Used to load detergent for main wash and prewash, as well as fabric softener.
  • Drying Indicator Light (2): Illuminates when the machine is in drying mode.
  • Drying Time Selector Dial (3): Allows selection of drying time up to 120 minutes. It has a blue sector for cottons and a green sector for synthetics. This dial should only be turned clockwise and can be depressed to pop it out.
  • Spin Speed Reduction Button (4): Reduces spin speed for different fabric types (e.g., cotton and linen from 1200rpm to 650rpm, synthetics and wool from 850rpm to 650rpm, delicates from 650rpm to 450rpm).
  • Quick Wash Button (5): Reduces wash time for lightly soiled garments on specific programmes (A, B, C, D, and H).
  • Super Rinse Button (6): Adds an additional rinse cycle for cottons and linens, recommended for individuals allergic to detergents or in areas with very soft water.
  • Rinse Hold Button (7): Stops the machine with water in the drum after the last rinse to prevent creasing. Pressing it again allows the machine to drain and spin, or the dial can be turned to the "R" (drain) programme. This feature is not compatible with automatic washing and drying programmes.
  • On/Off Button (8): Starts and stops the machine.
  • Mains-on Light (9): Illuminates when the machine is operating and turns off when the On/Off button is pressed to switch off the machine.
  • Programme Selector Dial (10): Used to select the desired washing or drying programme. It should be turned clockwise. The dial can be depressed to pop it out. The machine must be switched off via the On/Off button before setting the dial to a new position.

Operating Sequences:

Washing:

  1. Load the laundry.
  2. Measure and pour detergent into the main wash compartment (II) and prewash compartment (I) if desired.
  3. Measure and pour fabric softener into the compartment marked with the flower symbol, not exceeding the 'Max' mark.
  4. Select required options (Spin Reduction, Quick Wash, Super Rinse, Rinse Hold) by depressing the corresponding buttons.
  5. Turn the programme selector dial clockwise to the desired wash programme.
  6. Start the machine by pressing the On/Off button; the mains-on light will illuminate.
  7. At the end of the programme, the machine stops automatically. If Rinse Hold was selected, the machine stops with water in the tub. To drain and spin, release the Rinse Hold button. To drain only, select programme "R". The door unlocks 2 minutes after the programme ends. Switch off the machine by pressing the On/Off button again.

Drying:

  1. Load the laundry.
  2. Turn the programme selector dial clockwise to the appropriate drying programme.
  3. Turn the drying time selector dial clockwise to the desired time setting in the blue sector (refer to the programme chart).
  4. Start the machine by pressing the On/Off button; the mains-on light and drying light will illuminate.
  5. At the end of the programme, the machine stops automatically, and the drying light goes out. The door unlocks 2 minutes after the programme ends. Switch off the machine by pressing the On/Off button again. If laundry is still damp, select a further brief drying time, noting that a cooling and anti-crease phase occurs during the last 10 minutes.

Washing and Drying (Automatic):

  1. Load the laundry.
  2. Measure and pour detergent and fabric softener.
  3. Turn the programme selector dial clockwise to the appropriate programme.
  4. Select required options, such as the quick wash button.
  5. Select the required drying time from the programme chart, turning the time selector dial clockwise to the green sector.
  6. Start the machine by pressing the On/Off button; the mains-on light comes on.
  7. At the end of the programme, the machine stops automatically, and the drying light goes out. The door unlocks 2 minutes after the programme ends. Switch off the machine by pressing the On/Off button again. If laundry is still damp, select a further brief drying time, considering the 10-minute cooling and anti-crease phase. To save energy and avoid excessively long drying times, it is suggested not to reduce the spin speed when washing and drying automatically.

Cooling Phase: A cooling phase automatically begins 10 minutes before the end of drying. This phase is crucial for allowing the laundry to cool down and must not be reduced or interrupted.

Maintenance Features

While the document primarily focuses on operational instructions, it implicitly suggests maintenance through proper usage:

  • Detergent and Fabric Softener Usage: Correct measurement and placement of detergents and softeners in the dispenser drawer ensure optimal washing performance and prevent residue buildup.
  • Spin Speed Selection: The ability to reduce spin speed for different fabrics helps preserve garment quality and extends their lifespan, reducing wear and tear.
  • Rinse Hold Function: This feature helps prevent deep creases, which can reduce the need for excessive ironing and potential damage to fabrics from heat.
  • Cooling Phase: Adhering to the automatic cooling phase at the end of drying prevents thermal shock to fabrics and helps maintain their integrity over time.

The manual emphasizes correct programme selection based on fabric type and soil level, which is a key aspect of maintaining both the laundry and the appliance itself by preventing misuse or overloading. Regular cleaning of the detergent dispenser drawer and adherence to recommended load sizes (as indicated in the programme charts) are implied maintenance practices for efficient and long-lasting operation.
