This document is an installation, use, and maintenance guide for the Elica EPR634SS range hood. It provides instructions in English, French, and Spanish, covering safety, electrical requirements, venting options, installation steps, operation, and maintenance.
Function Description
The range hood is designed to remove smoke, cooking vapors, and odors from the cooktop area. For optimal performance, it is recommended to start the hood before cooking and allow it to operate for several minutes after cooking is complete to ensure all smoke and odors are cleared from the kitchen. The hood can be configured for either ducted (vented to the outdoors) or ductless (recirculating) installations.
Important Technical Specifications
Electrical Requirements:
- Voltage: 120 V AC, 60 Hz
- Circuit: 15- or 20-amp, fused electrical circuit (time-delay fuse or circuit breaker recommended)
- Grounding: Equipped with a 3-prong grounding plug. Must be plugged into a properly installed and grounded 3-prong outlet. The outlet should be located inside the cabinet above the range hood, at a maximum distance of 35 7/16" (90 cm) from where the power cord exits the hood, and must be accessible after installation.
- Extension Cords/Adapters: Not to be used.
Venting Requirements:
- Type: Rigid metal vent is recommended for ducted installations. Plastic or metal foil vent is not recommended.
- Duct Size: 6" (15.2 cm) round metal vent system.
- Duct Length/Elbows: Kept to a minimum for efficient performance. No more than three 90° elbows. Minimum 24" (61 cm) straight vent between elbows if more than one is used. Do not install two elbows together.
- Sealing: Use clamps to seal all joints and caulking to seal exterior wall or roof openings.
- Damper: The vent system must have a damper.
- Cold Weather Installations: An additional back draft damper non-return valve and a thermal break are recommended to minimize cold air flow and temperature conduction.
- Makeup Air: Local building codes may require makeup air systems for ventilation systems with greater than specified CFM.

Usage Features
Controls: The hood controls are located on the center of the front liner.
- On/Off Light Button (1): Controls all lights. Press once for ON, again for OFF.
- Blower Off and Speed Minimum Button (2): Turns the blower ON at minimum speed.
- Blower Speed Medium Button (3): Sets the blower to medium speed.
- Blower Speed Maximum Button (4): Sets the blower to maximum speed.
- Changing Speed: Speed can be changed anytime during fan operation by pressing the desired blower speed button.
- Turning Off Blower: Press the BLOWER OFF button a second time.
Installation Options:
- Ducted (Vented): Factory set for venting through the roof or wall. Requires a 6" (15.2 cm) round vent system (not included).
- Ductless (Recirculating): For situations where external venting is not possible. Requires a Recirculating Kit (KIT02770) and charcoal filters.
Maintenance Features
Cleaning:
- Frequency: Regularly clean the cooker hood internally and externally (at least as often as grease filters are maintained).
- Method: Use a cloth dampened with neutral liquid detergent.
- Avoid: Do not spray cleaners directly on controls. Do not use abrasive products or alcohol.
- Safety: Turn off power before servicing or cleaning.
Metal Grease Filters:
- Cleaning Frequency: Wash frequently.
- Method: Place metal filters in a dishwasher or hot detergent solution. Allow filters to dry thoroughly before replacing.
- Removal: Pull the spring release handle, then pull down the filter.
- Reinstallation: Ensure spring release handles are toward the front. Insert filter into upper track, pull handle down, push filter up, and release handle to latch.
Charcoal Filters (for Recirculating Kits):
- Cleaning: Cannot be cleaned.
- Replacement: Should be replaced every 4-6 months, depending on hood usage.
- Installation: Cover the suction motor grill with the carbon filter, aligning slots with pins on the motor protection grill. Turn clockwise to block (bayonet fixing).
LED Lamps:
- Replacement: Replaceable by a service technician only. Refer to the "Who to contact" section in the warranty for service contact information.
Accessories (Not Included):
- Recirculating Kit (KIT02770): For ductless installations, includes charcoal filters.
- Hood Liner (KIT02774): Provides complete protection for cabinets. Available in 36" wide x 17" or 20" deep.
