Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Elite Gourmet Single Cup Coffee Maker, model EHC112. It provides essential information for safe and effective operation, including important safeguards, parts identification, usage instructions, cleaning and maintenance, and warranty details.

Function Description

The Elite Gourmet Single Cup Coffee Maker is designed for brewing coffee for indoor, household, and non-commercial use. It is a single-serve appliance, meaning it brews one cup of coffee at a time. The device utilizes a reusable mesh filter, eliminating the need for paper filters. The brewing process involves adding water to the water tank, placing ground coffee in the filter basket, and initiating the brewing cycle with a power button. The appliance is designed for ease of use and convenience, providing a quick way to prepare a single serving of coffee.

Important Safeguards

The manual emphasizes several critical safety precautions to ensure user safety and prevent damage to the appliance. Users are advised to:

  • Operate the coffee maker on a flat, level, and stable surface, away from areas susceptible to water, heat, or moisture damage.
  • Keep the appliance out of reach of children and pets, as it is not intended for use by children.
  • Never leave the coffee maker unattended while in use and always unplug it when storing.
  • Avoid placing the coffee maker on or near gas/electric burners, inside microwave ovens, or conventional ovens.
  • Do not operate the product in the presence of explosives or flammable fumes.
  • Use only manufacturer's attachments to prevent fire, electrical shock, or personal injury.
  • Keep the power cord and product away from heated surfaces.
  • Avoid touching hot surfaces during or immediately after use; always use handles and knobs. Allow the unit to cool completely before handling.
  • Do not operate the coffee maker if it has a damaged power cord, plug, or shows any signs of damage. The product has no user-serviceable parts, and repairs should only be performed by qualified service personnel.
  • Never remove the bottom cover of the coffee maker.
  • Do not immerse the power cord or plug in water or other liquids to prevent electrocution.
  • Ensure the power cord does not hang over the edge of a table or counter to prevent tripping or pulling.
  • To disconnect, pull directly on the plug, not the power cord.
  • Keep the lid on the mug when in use and never operate the coffee maker without the mug in place on the warming plate and the mug lid closed.
  • Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycle.
  • Do not open the lid of the water reservoir or filter basket while brewing. Allow the filter basket to cool completely before removal.
  • This product is for indoor use only; outdoor use poses an electrocution hazard.
  • Unplug the appliance from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow the appliance to cool before putting on or removing parts and before cleaning.

Short Cord Purpose and Polarized Plug

The coffee maker is equipped with a short power cord to reduce the risk of personal injury from entanglement or tripping. If an extension cord is used, it must have an electrical rating at least as great as the product's and be arranged to prevent it from draping over surfaces where it could be pulled or tripped over. The appliance features a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) for safety. This plug is designed to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If it doesn't fit, the user should try reversing the plug or contact a qualified electrician. Users are warned not to alter the plug or defeat its safety purpose.

Parts Identification

The coffee maker consists of several key components:

  1. Lid: Covers the water tank and brewing chamber.
  2. Water Tank: Holds the water for brewing.
  3. Main Housing: The main body of the appliance.
  4. Indicator Light: Illuminates when the coffee maker is operating.
  5. Power Button: Activates the brewing cycle.
  6. Reusable Mesh Filter: Holds the coffee grounds during brewing.
  7. Filter Basket: Houses the reusable mesh filter.
  8. Brewing Chamber: Area where the coffee is brewed.
  9. Mug: The single-serve mug for collecting brewed coffee.
  10. Base: The bottom support of the coffee maker, which includes a warming plate.

Usage Features

Before first use, it is recommended to unpack all parts, remove packaging materials, and clean the interior surface with a damp cloth. The appliance should be positioned on a stable, dry, level, heat-resistant surface. It is also recommended to run one cycle with plain water to clean internal parts.

To use the coffee maker:

  • Ensure all parts are dry and the unit is unplugged.
  • Pour 14oz of water into the water tank.
  • Open the lid, remove the filter, and add three tablespoons of finely ground coffee or four tablespoons of regular ground coffee to the reusable mesh filter, distributing it evenly.
  • Reinstall the filter into the filter basket and place the filter basket into the brewing chamber.
  • Close the water tank lid.
  • Place the mug (without its lid) onto the base.
  • Plug the coffee maker into an electrical outlet and press the power button; the indicator light will turn on.
  • The indicator light will turn off when brewing is complete.
  • Allow all hot coffee to drip into the mug before removing it.

Brewing a Second Mug:

After brewing the first mug, allow the coffeemaker to cool down for about three minutes after the indicator light turns off. Rinse the mug and mesh filter with water before repeating the brewing procedure. Attempting to start another brewing cycle before the unit cools down completely may result in an incomplete cycle and potential steam escape, leading to burns. The unit has a thermal reset switch to prevent overheating.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity of the appliance. Cleaning should be performed after every use:

  • Always unplug the coffee maker and allow all parts to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Clean the housing and warming plate with a clean, damp cloth. Never immerse the unit in water.
  • Remove the mug, mug lid, filter, and filter basket.
  • The mug, mug lid, and filter basket can be placed on the upper rack of a dishwasher or hand-washed in warm, soapy water. The reusable mesh filter must be hand-washed.
  • Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembly and storage.
  • Store the coffee maker in a dry and clean place.
  • Note that dishwasher washing may cause parts to fade.

Descaling:

To descale the appliance:

  • Operate the appliance twice using a mixture of one part white vinegar and one part water to fill the water reservoir tank.
  • Run the unit twice more with only water to rinse away remaining scale and vinegar.

Important Notes for Maintenance:

  • Always use care to prevent damaging the filter mesh.
  • Ensure the filter is secured back in place before operating.
  • Do not dry the inside of the water tank with a cloth, as lint may remain.
  • Never immerse the entire coffee maker in water or any other liquid.
