Overview

The ELITechGroup AEROSPRAY® TB MODEL 7722 is a dual-purpose slide stainer and cytocentrifuge designed for in vitro diagnostic use by medical professionals. It is intended for staining microbiological specimens suspected of containing acid-fast organisms, a crucial step in diagnosing diseases like Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The instrument can also prepare slides by cytocentrifugation when equipped with the optional Cytopro® rotor.

Function Description:

The Aerospray TB stainer stains specimen smears on microscope slides, simulating traditional manual staining techniques to produce representative results. It supports both fluorescence and carbol fuchsin staining, depending on the reagents loaded. For optimal results, body fluid specimens should be digested and spread thinly on slides before staining. The Cytopro Cytocentrifuge rotor enables rapid sedimentation of specimen cells onto microscope slides for staining or other purposes. This rotor reduces cell loss during collection, prevents accidental specimen damage, and is sealed to control aerosol release during cytocentrifugation. Staining and cytocentrifugation functions are independent.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Slide Carousel Capacity: 1 to 12 or 1 to 30 slides, depending on the carousel used (Elitech Group 12-Slide Carousel AC-188 or 30-Slide Carousel AC-189).
  • Carousel Rotation Speed: Reagent application ranges from 10 to 20 rpm (± 5%) max; slide drying from 200 to 950 rpm (± 5%) max.
  • Cytocentrifuge Rotor Speed: 100 to 2000 rpm (± 5%), user programmable.
  • Display: 7-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) TFT with touchscreen controls.
  • Electrical Requirements: 100 to 240 VAC @ 50 to 60 Hz.
  • Power Consumption: 200 Watts maximum.
  • Fuses: 2.0 Amp time-lag (Type T) (5 x 20 mm) (2 required).
  • Dimensions (Lid Closed): 57 cm (22 in.) width, 25 cm (10 in.) height, 54 cm (21 in.) depth.
  • Weight: 15.8 kg (34.83 lb).
  • Ambient Temperature: Operating 15 to 30 °C (59 to 86 °F), Storage -10 to 50 °C (14 to 122 °F).
  • Relative Humidity: ≤ 80% non-condensing.
  • Altitude: ≤ 2000 m (≤ 6562 ft.).
  • Reagent Spray Nozzles: Each reagent has a separate spray nozzle, except for Reagent D which sprays through two nozzles.
  • Reagents: Requires ELITech Group reagents, with specific diluents for concentrated reagents. Approved ethanol, methanol, or reagent alcohol (99.5% pure for ethanol/methanol, >90% ethanol for reagent alcohol) and deionized/distilled water (0.2 micron inline filtered) are needed.
  • Stain Settings: Up to 12 programs can be stored.

Usage Features:

The stainer offers minimized reagent consumption, rapid staining, and high-volume staining productivity (12 or 30 slides per cycle). It includes a barcode scanner for tracking specimens and reagents, ensuring traceability for both. User traceability is also supported with an administrator password and user accounts. The interactive touchscreen display supports multiple languages. Each reagent has a separate reservoir, delivery tube, pump, and spray nozzle. The stain sequence is programmable, and reagent and waste levels are monitored. Log files record all operations. The Cytopro Cytocentrifuge rotor, when added, supports single, dual, and Magnum chambers (reusable or disposable), holds eight slides and chambers, and allows user-programmable memory locations for settings like speed, acceleration rate, and time. It offers easy switching between staining and cytocentrifuge modes and is autoclavable. The system setup menu allows users to create, edit, and delete stain and cytocentrifuge programs, track reagent information, manage user accounts and access levels, enable tracking features for slides, preventive maintenance, and reagents, manage reagent and waste level sensing, change display language, view and export system logs, change beeper settings, and set date/time.

Maintenance Features:

  • Automatic Clean Cycle: Purges each reagent spray nozzle (except D) after staining.
  • Reagent Level Monitoring: Alerts users when reagent levels are low or the waste container is full.
  • Preventive Maintenance Log: Tracks maintenance activities and provides timely prompts for daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
  • Hub Pattern Test: Ensures nozzles are clear of debris and spray properly.
  • Volume Test: Verifies selected nozzle volume is within the correct range.
  • Line Flush: Performed for troubleshooting staining issues or when switching between carbol fuchsin and fluorescence staining reagents.
  • Nozzle Disassembly and Cleaning: Manual cleaning of nozzles is required monthly.
  • Fuses: Replaceable time-lag fuses.
  • Decontamination: Procedures for decontaminating the stainer, carousels, and reagent bottles are provided, including solutions like 70% alcohol, mild detergent, or 10% bleach solution.
  • Storage: Instructions for long-term storage to prevent clogging of nozzles and internal valves.
  • Troubleshooting: Comprehensive guide for common problems, including abnormal staining results, instrument malfunctions, and reagent level detect system errors.
  • Touchscreen Calibration: Allows recalibration of the touchscreen display.
