This document is an owner's manual for the Emerson 900W Microwave Oven, model ER105005.

Function Description:

The Emerson 900W Microwave Oven is designed for heating, cooking, or drying food using microwave energy. It offers various cooking functions including one-stage cooking, two-stage cooking, weight defrost, time defrost, and auto cook programs. It also includes a kitchen timer and a child lock feature for safety. The oven is not designed for industrial or laboratory use, or for heating corrosive chemicals or home canning.

Usage Features:

  • Clock Setting: The oven displays "0:00" when first plugged in and allows the user to set the current time using number buttons. The clock can be recalled during cooking.
  • Weight Defrost: This feature eliminates guesswork by allowing the user to input the desired weight (in ounces) for automatic defrosting. The oven beeps five times upon completion.
  • Time Defrost: Users can manually set the defrosting time, with a minimum of 1 second and a maximum of 99 minutes, 99 seconds. The default power level for time defrost is 3, but it can be adjusted.
  • Power Levels: The microwave offers eleven power levels (0-10) for precise cooking control. Power level 10 is 100%, and level 0 is 0%.
  • Cooking in One Stage: Allows setting a single cooking time (up to 99 minutes, 99 seconds) and power level.
  • Kitchen Timer: A separate timer function that does not produce microwaves, allowing for timing other kitchen tasks.
  • Cooking in Two Stages: Enables programming two consecutive cooking stages with different times and power levels. The oven beeps once between stages.
  • Defrosting/Cooking in Two Stages: Combines a defrosting stage (either weight or time defrost) followed by a cooking stage.
  • Express Cook: Quick cooking function where pressing number buttons 1-6 immediately starts cooking at power level 10 for the selected number of minutes. The START/+30SEC. button adds 30 seconds to cooking time with each press.
  • Stop/Clear Button: Used to stop cooking, clear a cooking program (twice), or cancel a program. It should always be pressed before opening the door during operation.
  • Auto Cook: Pre-programmed settings for common items like Popcorn, Potato, Pizza, Beverage, Dinner Plate, and Frozen Vegetable. Users repeatedly press the corresponding button to select the desired weight/portion.
  • Memory Function: Allows users to preset up to three cooking functions (time and power levels) for quick recall and use.
  • Child Lock: Deactivates the control panel to prevent unintended operation by children. Activated and deactivated by pressing and holding the STOP/CANCEL button for three seconds.
  • Inquiry Function: During cooking, pressing the POWER button displays the current power level for three seconds, and pressing the CLOCK button displays the current time for three seconds.

Maintenance Features:

  • Oven Interior Cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth after each use. Mild detergent can be used for very dirty ovens. Harsh detergents or abrasives are not recommended.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Clean with mild soap and water, then wipe dry with a soft cloth. Prevent water from seeping into ventilation slots.
  • Control Panel Cleaning: Clean with a soft, dry cloth if dirty or wet. Avoid harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Steam Accumulation: Wipe with a soft cloth if steam accumulates on the door; this is normal in high humidity.
  • Roller Guide and Glass Tray: Clean frequently to prevent excessive noise. The roller guide and glass tray can be washed in warm, sudsy water or a dishwasher.
  • Glass Tray Usage: Do NOT operate the oven without the glass tray. Do NOT use other glass trays. Allow a hot glass tray to cool before cleaning or placing in water. Do NOT cook directly on the glass tray.
  • General Safety: Keep the splatter shield clean. Clean the microwave oven often to prevent fire hazards and voiding the warranty.
  • Grounding Instructions: The appliance must be grounded. Connect only to a properly grounded outlet. If an extension cord is necessary, use a grounding-type 3-wire cord with a rating equal to or greater than the appliance's electrical rating.
  • Installation: Requires a steady, flat surface, at least three inches of space for ventilation, and should be located away from TVs, radios, hot air, steam, or splashing liquids. The oven should be inspected for damage before installation.
