Instruction Manual
0004EN-PS7980-IM
November 2009 - Rev.01
Type PS/79 and PS/80 Pilots
INTRODUCTION
Scope of Manual
This manual provides installation, startup, maintenance, trouble-
shooting and spare parts for the pilot series PS/79 and PS/80.
Product Description
Designed for pressure regulators control, the following types
are available:
PS/79 • - single diaphragm pilot for pilot controlled gas
pressure regulator (active or wide-open monitor)
PSO/79 • - single diaphragm pilot for setting of rst
pressure reducing step of pilot controlled gas pressure
regulator (working monitor)
REO/79 • - single diaphragm pilot for setting of downstream
pressure reducing step of pilot controlled gas pressure
regulator (working monitor)
In case of failures, these pilots with single diaphragm will
cause a fail open reaction of the regulator.
PS/80 • - double diaphragm pilot for pilot controlled gas
pressure regulator (active or wide-open monitor)
PSO/80 • - double diaphragm pilot for setting of rst
pressure reducing step of pilot controlled gas pressure
regulator (working monitor)
REO/80 • - double diaphragm pilot for setting of
downstream pressure reducing step of pilot controlled gas
pressure regulator (working monitor)
In case of failures, these pilots with double diaphragms will
cause a fail close reaction of the regulator.
RE/79 and RE/80 versions are in accordance with specic
requirements of Italian market applications.
Tightness cover version available on request (e.g. PS/79-D
and PS/80-D).
The full range of PS pilots can be installed in the following
pressure regulators:
FL Series - Cronos Series - EZH Series - 971 Model

All PS/ series pilots are supplied with a filter (5µ filtering
degree) and built-in pressure stabilizer, with the exception of
pilots PSO/79 and PSO/80.

Why is the desired setpoint not reached on my Emerson TARTARINI PS/79 Controller?
    • V
      Valerie MaloneAug 2, 2025
If the desired setpoint is not reached on your Emerson Controller, it could be due to a weak calibration spring or leaks from pilot connections. You should check the springs catalog and replace the spring with a stronger one if it is too weak. Also, check the pilot feed connections and ensure proper gas flow.
  • T
    Theresa RichardAug 6, 2025
What to do if the outlet pressure drops below setpoint on Emerson TARTARINI PS/79 Controller?
    • S
      Sue LaneAug 6, 2025
If the outlet pressure on your Emerson Controller drops well below the setpoint, it could be caused by a clogged filter or swollen pad holders. Clean or replace the filter if it is clogged. Replace the pad holder (key 56) if it is swollen and preventing proper feed flow. Also, replace the pad holder (key 34) if it is swollen.

    Jacob GrahamAug 10, 2025
Why does the outlet pressure increase over setpoint on my Emerson Controller?
    • Z
      zblackAug 10, 2025
If the outlet pressure increases over the setpoint on your Emerson Controller, it could be due to faulty sealing of the pad holders. Replace the pad holder (key 56). Also, replace the pad holder (key 34).

    Terri WoodsAug 14, 2025
What to do if the outlet pressure is not within the usual values on my Emerson Controller?
    • D
      David DaltonAug 14, 2025
If the outlet pressure is not within the usual values on your Emerson Controller, the diaphragms may be damaged. Replace diaphragms (key 10) that show signs of wear. If gas escapes from the silencer (key 45), replace the upper diaphragm (key 10).

How to fix slow response to changes in gas demand on Emerson Controller?
    • H
      Hannah FriedmanAug 19, 2025
If your Emerson Controller exhibits a slow response to changes in gas demand, it might be due to an insufficient flow rate of the valve seat or an overly large calibration jet. Increase the flow by means of the register/pin screw (key 29). If you have Types PS/79 and PS/80, replace the calibration jet (key 15) with a smaller one.
  • B
    Benjamin GrahamAug 22, 2025
How to stop overly rapid response (hunting) on Emerson TARTARINI PS/79?
    • P
      Philip RobertsAug 23, 2025
If your Emerson Controller is exhibiting an overly rapid response to changes in gas demand (hunting), it could be caused by an excessive flow rate of the valve seat, a calibration jet that is too small, or improper internal parts assembly. You can try the following: * Reduce the flow by means of a pin screw (key 29). * Replace the calibration jet (key 15) with a larger one (only for Types PS/79 and PS/80). * Check the clearance between the lever (key 39) and the forked stem (key 35).

Why is gas continually escaping from the relief (S) on my Emerson Controller?
    • T
      Travis LoveAug 27, 2025
If gas is continually escaping from the relief (S) on your Emerson Controller, it is likely due to a defective seal of the pad. The suggested solution is to replace the pad (key 21).
