Overview

The BIG BOSS™ Digital Oil-Less Fryer, Item No. 8925, is an energy-efficient tabletop cooker that reinvents traditional frying and cooking. It combines conduction heat, convection, and infrared technology to prepare foods that are moist on the inside and browned and crispy on the outside, all without the need for added fats or oils. This appliance is designed to offer a "Great Fried Taste Without The Frying" and is promoted as a "Heart Healthy Alternative" that "cooks with less or no oil."

Function Description:

The fryer utilizes a triple cooking power system: conduction, convection, and infrared heat. Conduction directly heats the food's surface for browning, roasting, and flavor. Convection circulates hot air to ensure even and faster cooking. Gentle infrared heat cooks food from the inside out, sealing in juices. This combination allows for a wide range of cooking tasks, including air frying chicken and fish, stir-frying vegetables, roasting turkey, broiling steaks, grilling meats, toasting breads, steaming vegetables, and even making dessert, all without the need for preheating or defrosting. The appliance is capable of cooking from frozen, eliminating the need for thawing time. It also uses less energy, cooking up to three times faster than conventional methods.

Usage Features:

The BIG BOSS™ Digital Oil-Less Fryer features an all-digital control panel with eight presets for hassle-free cooking. These presets include settings for French Fries, Onion Rings, Breaded Fish, Breaded Chicken Pieces, Breaded Chicken Cutlets, Potato Chips, Potato Wedges, and a Thaw/Wash/Dehydrate function. The glass dome allows users to visually monitor the cooking process. The lid's tight seal helps keep hot air inside, preventing the kitchen from heating up.

To operate, the unit must be placed on a stable, heat-proof surface, away from the edge of the table or countertop, ensuring the power cord does not touch any hot surfaces. Adequate space around the unit is necessary for the cover when removed. Users must ensure cooking racks or the mesh basket are placed inside the glass bowl prior to pre-heating or cooking. Oven mitts should always be ready for removing the lid and cooked food. The unit can accommodate oven-safe pans, plates, or tin foil.

For assembly, the glass lid is opened, and cooking racks are placed inside the glass bowl. Food can be placed directly on a rack or in the mesh basket to allow hot air circulation for faster and more even cooking. For air frying foods like french fries, onion rings, chicken, or fish, the mesh basket is recommended. While no oil is necessary, a sprayer is included for users who wish to lightly spray foods with oil (1 to 3 sprays). The fryer's capacity can be increased for larger foods, such as a turkey up to 16 lbs, by using the included extender ring. The extender ring is placed flat over the glass bowl's lip, creating a perfect seal with the lid. After placing food and closing the lid, the handle must be lowered until it snaps into a flat position, activating the unit. Once plugged in, a short beep will sound, and the Time and Temperature LED displays will show 0:00 and 000, respectively.

When using presets, the handle must be completely down and flat (a click will be heard). Selecting a preset will display the time and temperature, and a small light will blink next to the chosen preset. Cooking times depend on the size, weight, and thickness of the food. Temperature and time can be adjusted using the "+" or "-" buttons. Temperature changes in 5°F increments (120°F - 480°F), and time changes in 1-minute increments (1 minute - 1 hour 59 minutes).

For manual operation without presets, the handle must also be down and flat. Time and temperature are set using the "+" or "-" buttons. The unit cooks faster than conventional ovens, so less cooking time may be required. Once time and temperature are set, or a preset is selected, the Power button is pressed to turn the unit ON. The conduction lamp and fan will cycle on and off to maintain the set temperature.

To check food during cooking, the handle is lifted to turn the unit off. It is crucial to bring the handle to its upright position before removing the glass lid to activate the safety feature. The unit becomes very hot, and oven mitts are strongly recommended, especially when using the extender ring. After checking, the handle must be lowered until it snaps in for the unit to resume operation. If the unit needs to be turned off before the timer expires, the Start/Stop button is pressed. When the timer counts down to 0:00, the oven will beep several times and turn off automatically. The conduction lamp turns off immediately, while the fan continues for 1-3 minutes to cool the unit. Food should be removed promptly to prevent moisture build-up. Tongs are provided for lifting hot cooking racks with food.

The appliance also supports dehydrating fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Fruits or vegetables are washed, dried, and sliced thinly (about 1/16 inch). Soft fruits can be briefly frozen to facilitate slicing. Fruit slices are soaked in a lemon juice solution (1/2 cup water + 1/2 cup lemon juice for 10 minutes; bananas for 5 minutes). The high cooking rack is placed first, then the mesh basket, and slices are arranged in a single layer without touching. The lid is closed, and the handle is lowered. The THAW/WASH/DEHYDRATE preset is selected, and time/temperature can be adjusted. Food should be checked every 15 minutes by lifting the handle to turn the unit off, then lowering it to resume. Dehydrated fruit should be pliable or leathery, with no moisture or stickiness.

Pre-heating, if required, involves inserting trays/mesh basket, setting the time to 10 minutes, and adjusting the temperature according to the recipe. Thawing frozen foods is also an option, although the unit can cook from frozen.

Maintenance Features:

Before cleaning, the unit must be turned off and unplugged, and allowed to cool completely. The glass bowl, plastic base, extender ring, cooking racks, mesh basket, tongs, and sprayer should be thoroughly washed in hot soapy water and allowed to dry. The glass bowl and cooking racks are dishwasher-safe. Cooking racks should not be soaked for long periods and must be dried thoroughly after washing to preserve their surface and extend their life.

The lid with digital controls, cord, or plug should never be immersed in water or any other liquid. Abrasive cleansers should not be used, and the glass lid should not be placed in the dishwasher. The surface of the glass lid can be wiped clean with a damp cloth or sponge. All parts must be dry before storage to prevent moisture collection in the lid.

For self-cleaning of the glass bowl, 1 to 2 inches of water and a small amount of mild dishwashing liquid are poured into the bowl. The lid is placed on, and the unit is plugged in. The handle is lowered until it snaps in. The THAW/WASH/DEHYDRATE preset is selected, and the cooking time is changed to 10 minutes (temperature remains 260°F). After the timer counts down to 0:00, the oven will beep and turn off. The conduction lamp turns off, and the fan continues for 1-3 minutes to cool. The lid is carefully opened, and the glass bowl is allowed to cool before emptying the liquid. Finally, the glass bowl is rinsed with clean warm water to remove soap residue.
