Battery
Familiarise yourself with the battery section in the
manual. Charge the battery fully before first use
using the supplied charger.
Set up bike – handlebars and pedals
Your Emu bike arrives 98% assembled. This means
all you need to do is attach the pedals and fix the
stem into position.
Pedals
1. The pedal axles are labelled ‘R’ and ‘L’ for the
‘right’ and ‘left’ (when sitting on the bike).
2. Choose the appropriate pedal and insert it into
the corresponding crank arm. Turn both pedal
axles towards the front of the bike (left pedal
turns anti-clockwise, and the right pedal turns
clockwise). If it doesn’t turn easily, do not force
it. Check you have the correct pedal and are
inserting it level at 90 degrees to the crank.
3. Thread both pedals into the crank arm as far
as you can by hand. Then fully tighten to
30Nm using the 15mm spanner.
4. Pedals are assigned to left and right, they are
not interchangeable.
Stem:
1. With the bike on the ground, line up the
handlebars so they are 90 degrees to the front
wheel.
2. Using the supplied 5mm allen key, tighten the
top cap until it is just tight (do not over tighten).
3. Then, slowly tighten each side stem bolt to 5-
6Nm, switching between the two as you
tighten.
Tyre Pressure
1. The correct tyre pressure is essential for a
safe, enjoyable ride and maximising range.
2. Pump the tyres to your preference within the
range indicated on the side wall of your tyre.
Pre-ride final checks
1. Before first use, check all nuts and bolts are
correctly tightened and not overtightened.
2. Test the brakes.
3. Check the battery is locked in place.
4. Ensure you have read the manual.
Range
It’s important to remember that the range you can
achieve with your Emu is significantly affected by
the following factors: total load weight (rider +
luggage), pedalling force, average speed, tyre
pressure, outside temperature, hill gradient, terrain,
correct use of gears and age and care of the
battery.
Packaging
Your Emu bike arrives in mainly recyclable
packaging. Please ensure you recycle the
packaging.
