Usage Features:

The Encore Edge mowers are designed for efficient and safe grass cutting.

  • Operator Controls: The machine features motion control levers for forward and reverse movement, a choke knob for starting, and a throttle control for engine speed.
  • Safety Interlock System: This system ensures the mower operates only when conditions are safe. Pictorial indicators on the console show the status of the PTO, park brake, drive levers, and operator presence. The PTO must be disengaged, brake engaged, and motion control levers in neutral to start the engine. The engine will stop if the operator leaves the seat while the PTO is engaged or if either the left or right motion control lever is moved from neutral while the brake is engaged.
  • Park Brake Lever: Located on the left side of the LH motion control lever, it engages and disengages the brake. The unit must be tied down and brake engaged when transporting.
  • Fuel Shut-Off Valve: Located behind the seat, this valve is used to shut off the fuel to the engine. It should be closed during transport and when parked inside a building.
  • Ignition Switch: A three-position switch ("OFF", "ON", "START") located on the console. The key must be held against spring pressure in the "START" position.
  • Hour Meter: Records the total operating hours of the machine.
  • Drive Wheel Release Valves: These valves allow the hydrostatic drive system to be moved by hand when the engine is not running.
  • Blade Engagement Switch: A push-pull switch to engage and disengage the blades.
  • Deck Lift Pedal: Located at the right front corner of the floor pan, this pedal is used to raise and lower the cutting deck.
  • Transport Lock: Located at the rear of the right-hand side of the floor pan, this lock engages when the deck is raised to the up-stop position, preventing the deck from being lowered.
  • Pre-Start Procedure: Requires checking fuel level, opening the fuel valve, and ensuring the engine is filled with clean, fresh regular grade unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Important: Never use methanol, gasoline containing methanol, gasohol containing more than 10% ethanol, premium gasoline, or white gas because the fuel system could be damaged.
  • Starting the Engine: Involves moving both control levers to neutral, pulling the park brake lever rearward, pushing in the PTO switch to the "disengage" position, placing the throttle midway between "SLOW" and "FAST", and turning the ignition switch to "START".
  • Driving the Machine: The motion control levers are used to drive the machine forward and in reverse. The drive system is in the neutral lock position when the motion control levers are fully outward (apart) in the T-slot.
  • Adjusting Cutting Height: The cutting height can be adjusted from 1.5 to 4.75 inches in 1/4 inch increments using the deck lift pedal and a height adjustment pin.
  • Adjusting Anti-Scalp Rollers: It is recommended to change the anti-scalp roller position when the height of cut has changed. For maximum deck flotation, the rollers should maintain 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) clearance to the ground.
  • Transporting: Requires using a heavy-duty trailer or truck, securing the machine, and ensuring proper tie-down. Avoid sudden acceleration or deceleration while loading/unloading.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the Encore Edge mower.

  • Recommended Maintenance Schedule: A detailed schedule is provided, outlining tasks to be performed before each use, after the first 8 hours, after the first 100 hours, every 40 hours, every 100 hours, every 200 hours, every 250 hours, every 400 hours, every 500 hours, monthly, and yearly.
  • Check Engine Oil Level: Before starting the engine, check the oil level. Do not fill above the "FULL" mark.
  • Check Battery Charge: Monthly, check the battery charge. The manual provides a table with voltage readings, percent charge, maximum charger settings, and charging intervals.
  • Recommended Jump Starting Procedure: Instructions are provided for jump starting a weak battery, emphasizing safety precautions to avoid explosive gases and personal injury.
  • Check Mower Blades: Before each use or daily, inspect blades for sharpness and damage. Replace or sharpen as needed. Always use original equipment blades.
  • Check Safety Interlock System: Before each use or daily, ensure the interlock system is functioning correctly.
  • Check ROPS: Before each use or daily, check that mounting hardware is tight.
  • Check Seat Belt: Before each use or daily, visually inspect the seat belt for wear, cuts, and proper operation.
  • Check for Loose Hardware: Before each use or daily, inspect for any loose hardware.
  • Service Air Cleaner: Every 250 hours, clean the primary air cleaner and replace the secondary air cleaner if dirty.
  • Change Engine Oil: After the first 8 hours, then every 100 hours, change the engine oil.
  • Change Engine Oil Filter: Every 200 hours, change the engine oil filter.
  • Check Hydraulic Oil Level: Every 40 hours, check the hydraulic oil level.
  • Check Tire Pressures: Every 40 hours, check and adjust tire pressures.
  • Check Condition of Belts: Every 40 hours, check the condition of all belts.
  • Lubricate Grease Fittings: Every 40 hours, lubricate all grease fittings with NLGI #2 multi-purpose grease.
  • Caster Wheel Rotation: Every 200 hours, remove and install the caster bolt, pull the wheel out of the fork, and install in reverse order.
  • Check Spark Plugs: Every 100 hours, remove spark plugs, check condition, and reset gaps or replace with new plugs.
  • Change Hydraulic System Filter and Fluid: Every 400 hours, change the hydraulic system filter and fluid. This involves draining old oil, replacing the filter, and refilling with new 20W-50 motor oil.
  • Hydraulic System Air Purge: This procedure is required after any maintenance that introduces air into the hydraulic system.
  • Thread Locking Adhesives: Use "Loctite 242" or "Fel-Pro, Pro-lock nut type" on specific fasteners.
  • Copper-Based Anti-Seize: Used on threads of blade bolts and mower blades section.
  • Dielectric Grease: Used on all blade type electrical connections to prevent corrosion.
  • Caster Pivot Bearings Pre-Load and Lubrication: Once a year, tighten the nut until it is snug then back it off 1/8-1/4 turn. Pump grease into the fitting until grease is seen coming up through the bearing.
  • Check V-Belts: Every 100 hours, inspect V-belts.
  • Deck Leveling: Adjust the deck to ensure even cutting.
  • Mower Deck Drive Belt Tension: Adjust tension as needed.
  • Park Brake Adjustment: Check and adjust the park brake.
  • Motion Control Linkage Adjustment: Adjust the linkage for proper motion control.
  • Neutral Adjustment: Adjust the neutral position of the motion control levers.
