There are two types of snap rings used:
Older sets will have an U-Shaped Snap Ring
Newer sets will feature a Circular Snap Ring with
Tabs
For the U-Shaped Snap Ring:
Carefully remove the snap ring (U-Shaped locking
pin) with a at head screwdriver.
Lift the spring retaining plate out of place (Careful,
spring may jump out of place).
For the Circular Snap Ring with Tabs:
Open the ring using the Snap Ring Pliers.
Remove the Snap Ring and lift the spring retaining
plate out of place (Careful, spring may jump out of
place).
1. Remove the Snap Ring and Retaining Plate.
2. Remove the Spring and Bushing
Remove the old spring.
Remove the old bushing by pushing it out of the
front of the escutcheon.
3. Insert New Bushing
Insert new bushing into escutcheon. Note the
orientation, the indention on the bushing should be
opposite the extruded stop on the escutcheon.

Summary

Remove Snap Ring and Retaining Plate

U-Shaped Snap Ring Removal

Carefully remove the U-shaped locking pin with a flat head screwdriver and lift the plate.

Circular Snap Ring with Tabs Removal

Use snap ring pliers to open and remove the ring, then lift the spring retaining plate.

Remove Old Spring and Bushing

Remove Old Spring

Remove the old spring from the escutcheon.

Remove Old Bushing

Push the old bushing out from the front of the escutcheon.

Insert New Bushing

Check Bushing Orientation

Verify Bushing Rotation

Verify the bushing rotates correctly when inserted properly.

Align Bushing Indentations

Orient the bushing so indentations are parallel with escutcheon sides.

Insert New Spring

Seat First Spring End

Seat one end of the spring in the channel against the mounting screw pass-through.

Seat Second Spring End

Seat the other end of the spring in the channel while holding the first end.

Attach Spring Retaining Plate and Load Spring

Align Retaining Plate Tabs

Align plate tabs with bushing indentations and 90-degree tab with screw pass-through.

Load Spring into Channel

Hold plate, load spring towards the middle of the channel.

Fully Seat Retaining Plate

Press the spring retaining plate down fully into place.

Secure Snap Ring Over Retaining Plate

Reinstall U-shaped Snap Ring

Align U-shaped snap ring with groove and push into place with a screwdriver.

Reinstall Circular Tabbed Snap Ring

Spread circular ring with pliers, move to groove, and release to seat firmly.
