Usage Features:

The Eskute Star is equipped with several features to enhance the riding experience:

  • Handlebars: Include an On/Off switch, display, shifter, and brake levers.
  • Display: An LCD display shows current speed, distance traveled, battery life, and pedal assist levels. It's important to familiarize yourself with the LCD screen to monitor these metrics during rides.
  • Pedal Assist Levels: The bike requires activation of a pedal assist level before full-electric operation (US models).
  • Folding Mechanism: The bike frame and handle stem are designed to fold for easy transport and storage. To unfold the bike frame, simply extend it until it locks into place. To fold, press the latch lock to release the mechanism. For the handle stem, loosen the quick release, tilt the stem slowly, and then fasten the stem latch upward to lock it. Always ensure the stem is firmly locked before riding by jiggling it.
  • Battery Charging: The battery can be charged both on and off the bike. It's crucial to turn off the motor system and battery completely before charging. To remove the battery, use the key to unlock the battery pin, then pull the battery up from the bottom and slide it downward. Connect the charger to the port on the battery and then to an AC power outlet. The charger indicator light will turn green when charging and red when fully charged. For the first three charges, it's recommended to charge for at least 8 hours to ensure proper cell balance. Subsequent normal charging takes 4-5 hours.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always fully charge the battery before initial use to prevent damage to battery life and performance.
    • Do not dismantle or repair parts yourself; consult a local distributor or service station.
    • Do not depress the brake levers before installing the front wheel.
    • Do not raise the saddle higher than the safety line.
    • Imagine sitting on the bike to correctly identify left vs. right pedal for installation.
    • Ensure pedals are threaded smoothly and easily into the crank.
    • Do not cover the charger while in use.
    • Do not open the charger or alter the voltage input.
    • Stop riding and contact Eskute immediately if there are issues with the charger or battery.
    • Sudden or excessive application of the front brake may pitch the rider over the handlebars.
    • Riding with worn brake pads, improperly installed brakes, or wheels with visible wear from brake pads is dangerous.
    • Disc rotors have sharp edges; exercise caution during maintenance.
    • Inflating tires beyond the maximum pressure can damage the bike and injure the rider.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is essential for optimal performance and safety.

  • Brakes: It's important to know which brake lever controls the front and rear brakes. Typically, the right lever controls the rear brake, and the left controls the front, but this can vary by region. Test the configuration by squeezing each lever and observing which brake engages. Adjust brake tension by twisting the barrel adjusters on either side (clockwise to decrease, counterclockwise to increase). Ensure hands can comfortably reach and squeeze levers.
  • Tires: The Eskute Star comes with 20" x 4.0" CST fat tires. Understanding appropriate conditions and terrain for these tires is important. Tire pressure information is found on the sidewall. Use a bike-specific tire pump with a built-in pressure gauge. High tire pressures are best for smooth, dry pavement, while lower pressures are better for smooth, slick terrain. Properly inflate tires to prevent flats and ensure a smooth ride.
  • Battery Care:
    • Always fully charge the battery before each ride to maximize range.
    • If the battery is physically damaged, involved in a crash, or performs abnormally, discontinue use and contact Eskute.
    • Only charge the battery with the supplied Eskute charger to prevent damage or fire/explosion.
    • While the charger stops automatically when full, do not leave it plugged in for more than 12 hours.
    • Keep the charger away from liquids, dirt, and debris.
    • The charger may get hot during use; if it becomes too hot or shows signs of overheating, discontinue use and contact Eskute.
    • Storing Your Battery: If storing for more than two weeks, keep the battery at least 80% charged. For storage of a month or longer, periodically check and maintain an 80% charge. Store in a cool, dry area (50°F - 77°F / 10°C - 25°C) away from water. Failure to follow these practices can lead to reduced battery performance or non-functionality, which is not covered by warranty.
  • General Maintenance:
    • Regularly inspect and tighten crank bolts, as they can loosen after strenuous use.
    • If riding in the rain, dry the ebike after a wet ride to prevent rust.
    • Inspect bolts regularly to ensure they are tight and all components are secure.
    • For general maintenance beyond basic checks, consult a qualified mechanic.
