Overview

The ETCR High Accuracy Clamp Leaker is a sophisticated instrument specifically engineered for the precise measurement of AC leakage current. Utilizing advanced CT technology and digital integration, this device stands out for its compact size, high accuracy, and comprehensive functionality, surpassing many similar instruments available globally. Its design makes it suitable for a wide array of applications across various sectors, including electricity, communications, meteorology, railway, oilfield operations, construction, general measurement, scientific research, educational institutions, and industrial and mining establishments.

At the core of this clamp leaker is a specialized alloy clamp, further enhanced by magnetic shielding technology. This innovative combination ensures that the device remains largely unaffected by external magnetic fields, thereby guaranteeing high precision, exceptional stability, and reliable continuous measurements over extended periods. This robust construction and advanced technology make it an indispensable tool for professionals requiring accurate and consistent leakage current measurements.

Beyond its primary function of measuring AC leakage current, the ETCR High Accuracy Clamp Leaker is also capable of AC line current measurement and on-line current measurement for voltages up to AC600V. This versatility extends its utility, making it a valuable asset for various electrical testing and monitoring tasks. The device incorporates several user-friendly features designed to enhance its operational efficiency and convenience. These include peaking holding, which allows users to capture and retain the maximum current value detected during a measurement period. Data holding is another key feature, enabling users to freeze the current display for easier reading and recording, particularly in challenging environments where direct observation might be difficult. Additionally, the device offers data storage capabilities, allowing users to save measurement results for later review or analysis. These features collectively contribute to making the ETCR High Accuracy Clamp Leaker an essential tool for electricians and safety personnel conducting electrical safety testing.

A significant enhancement to the ETCR High Accuracy Clamp Leaker is the inclusion of an RS232 interface. This interface unlocks a suite of advanced functionalities when the device is connected to a personal computer and used with the provided software. Through this connection, users can engage in on-line monitoring, which provides real-time data acquisition and observation. The software also facilitates historical data inquiry, allowing for the retrieval and analysis of past measurements. Active curve drawing is another powerful feature, enabling visual representation of current trends over time, which can be crucial for diagnostic purposes. Furthermore, the software can indicate maximum, minimum, and average values, offering a comprehensive overview of the measured parameters. Alarm setting and indication capabilities are also integrated, providing alerts when predefined thresholds are exceeded, thus enhancing safety and operational awareness. For documentation and reporting, the software supports saving data to various document formats and printing reports directly from the connected PC.

The operational method of the ETCR High Accuracy Clamp Leaker is designed for simplicity and efficiency. To power on the device, users simply press the "POWER" key, and the LCD will illuminate to display measurement data. Pressing the "POWER" key again will shut down the leaker. To conserve battery life, the device is equipped with an auto power-off function, which activates after five minutes of inactivity. Before automatically shutting down, the LCD will display a flickering notification for 30 seconds, indicating the impending shutdown. If the "POWER" key is pressed during this flickering period, the leaker will reset its timer and continue operating for another five minutes. Users are advised to check the LCD display upon startup; if it appears very dark, it indicates a low battery voltage, and the battery should be replaced immediately.

For leakage current measurement, the device emphasizes safety and proper technique. Users are explicitly warned against measuring currents higher than 300A to prevent the risk of electric shock or equipment damage. To perform a measurement, the user powers on the device, then presses the trigger to open the clamp head. The conductors to be measured are then placed within the clamp head, ensuring it is completely closed for accurate readings. The manual provides specific guidance on different measurement scenarios: clamping live and null lines together to measure leakage current of electrical equipment (a two-line measurement); clamping the earth wire to measure grounding line leakage current (a single-line measurement); and clamping the main line to measure the total current of that line (also a single-line measurement). These instructions highlight the versatility of the device for various current measurement tasks.

The "Peak Hold" function is activated by continuously pressing the "HOLD" key for more than three seconds during a measurement. This allows the leaker to capture and display the peak current values of the lines within that period. Releasing the key returns the device to its normal measuring state. For situations where reading the display is challenging, the "Data Hold" function is invaluable. A short press of the "HOLD" key (less than three seconds) will display the "DH" symbol, indicating that the current measurement data is held on the screen and automatically stored in the device's memory with a unique unit ID. Pressing the "HOLD" key again releases the hold state, allowing the leaker to resume continuous measurement. If the storage memory reaches its capacity of 60 groups, the "FULL" symbol will flicker. Pressing the "HOLD" key again will cancel this flickering and return the device to measuring mode.

Accessing stored data is straightforward. By pressing the "HOLD" and "POWER" keys simultaneously, the device enters data access mode, automatically displaying the first unit of stored data. Subsequent presses of the "HOLD" key allow users to scroll through the stored data pages. If "NULL" is displayed, it indicates that there is no data stored in the memory. To exit data access mode, the "POWER" key is pressed. Furthermore, users can clear all stored data by pressing and holding the "HOLD" key for more than three seconds while in data access mode. The device will display "dEL" to confirm the cleanup process is complete, and then automatically return to the measuring state.

Maintenance of the ETCR High Accuracy Clamp Leaker primarily involves battery replacement. The device indicates a low battery condition with a flickering battery symbol on the LCD. Users are strongly cautioned against performing tests when the battery cover plate is not securely in place. When replacing batteries, it is crucial to pay close attention to the polarity to prevent damage to the device. If the leaker is not expected to be used for an extended period, it is recommended to remove the batteries for storage to prevent potential leakage and damage. To change the battery, the user must first shut down the leaker by pressing the "POWER" key. Before opening the battery cover, it is essential to confirm that the device is in the off position. Once the cover is removed, the old battery can be replaced with a new, qualified 9V battery (6F22 type), ensuring correct polarity. Finally, the battery cover plate must be securely reattached. Adhering to these maintenance guidelines ensures the longevity and reliable performance of the ETCR High Accuracy Clamp Leaker.
