Overview

The Shark Steam Blaster, Model EP95B, is a modern vapor steam cleaning appliance designed for household use. It utilizes the power of steam to clean various hard surfaces without the need for chemical cleaning products. This "flow through injection" type boiler system is not pressurized, meaning it takes approximately 45-90 seconds for the steam injector to heat up and the "steam ready light" to go off. Once the light is off, the steam switch on the handgrip can be pushed to "On" (I) to start the steam flow. Steam power gradually increases during the first four minutes of use, then stabilizes. It's normal for some steam to condense around the floor brush, causing hard surfaces to become wet during cleaning.

Function Description:

The Shark Steam Blaster is primarily used for cleaning hard surfaces such as hardwood, vinyl, tile, and marble floors. It's also effective for tasks like removing wallpaper, washing windows, and degreasing various surfaces around the home. The appliance generates steam at a temperature between 220°F and 240°F at the nozzle tip, which falls to 100°F at a distance of 10 inches. This high-temperature steam helps to loosen dirt and grime, allowing for effective cleaning.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage: 120V~ 60Hz
  • Power: 1400 Watts
  • Water Capacity: 3 1/4 Cups (.8 L.)
  • Max. Steam Temp.: 240°F
  • Features:
    • On/Off Switch
    • Thermostat & Safety Thermofuse
    • Steam Trigger on Handgrip
    • Steam Ready Light (Green)
    • 3 Pivoting Wheels

Usage Features:

The device is designed for ease of use with several features and accessories:

  • Water Usage: Tap water can be used for most cleaning needs. However, if you live in an area with hard water, demineralized or distilled water is recommended to prevent mineral buildup. It is crucial NOT to add cleaning solutions, scented perfumes, oils, or any other chemicals to the water tank, as this can damage the unit and void the warranty.
  • On/Off Steam Switch: Located on the handgrip, this switch controls the steam flow. It should be in the "Off" position before attaching or disassembling accessories and when the unit is not in use.
  • Steam Ready Light: A green light on the unit indicates when the steam injector has heated up and the system is ready to produce steam.
  • Pivoting Wheels: The unit is equipped with three pivoting wheels for easy maneuverability.
  • Hose: The hose includes the steam switch on its handle and allows for flexible reach.
  • Extensions: Two extension tubes can be connected to the hose handle to extend the reach and provide a more comfortable working position.
  • Floor Brush: This accessory is ideal for cleaning hardwood, vinyl, tile, and marble floors. It comes with two clamps to fasten cloth towels.
    • Towel Usage: For best results, two layers of 100% cotton white terry cloth towels (size 8" x 17") are strongly recommended. The towels should be wrapped over the ends of the brush and clipped underneath, ensuring they do not cover the front and back of the brush. This helps absorb moisture and dirt and protects delicate surfaces. Moving the brush slowly in back-and-forth motions is recommended. For very dirty areas, multiple passes may be needed.
    • Wood Floors: Do NOT leave the unit stationary on wood floors to avoid heat or moisture buildup. Cleaning with a towel over the brush will not affect the floor's shine.
    • Waxed Floors: Use a clean towel(s) on the floor brush and work quickly. The towel will absorb dirt but not remove wax.
    • Vinyl Floors: Work quickly on vinyl floors to avoid heat buildup, which can soften and affect the texture of the vinyl. Use two towels on the floor brush.
    • Tile Floors: For excessively dirty tile and marble areas, towels can be removed to agitate the area directly with the brush bristles, then wipe immediately with a clean cloth and re-clean with the brush and towels.
    • Important Note: Do not use the steam cleaner on hardwood or vinyl floors without towels installed on the floor brush.
  • Concentrator: This attachment is useful for cleaning tight corners (e.g., toilets, taps, tile joints) as it provides a concentrated jet of steam to remove stubborn dirt.
  • Detail Brush: This brush is combined with the concentrator by inserting it over the tip of the concentrator, making it ideal for cleaning radiators, door and window jambs, shutters, and sanitary fixtures.
  • Glass & Tile Squeegee: This attachment is useful for cleaning large windows, plastic material, ceramic, tiled surfaces, and marble planes. Apply steam, rub with the spongy side, and remove with the glass wiping rubber. When cleaning outside windows, avoid sudden temperature changes to prevent breakage.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always keep the unit in an upright position when in use. Do not lie flat or turn upside down, as hot water may exit the hose and cause injury.
    • Upon initial use, the steam will be mixed with water hot enough to scald. Ensure the floor brush is resting on the floor or the hose handgrip is directed away from the user when the steam switch is turned on. Never direct the nozzle or brush end toward yourself or anyone near you.
    • The appliance is equipped with a grounded-type 3-wire cord (3-prong plug) for safety. Do not attempt to defeat the grounding pin.
    • Do not leave the Shark Steam Blaster plugged in when unattended. Unplug the electrical cord when not in use, before servicing, or refilling the water tank.
    • Do not allow children, pets, or plants near the operating unit.
    • Do not immerse the steam cleaner into water or other liquids.
    • Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Never direct steam at any person.
    • Do not operate in the presence of explosive and/or flammable fumes.
    • Do not use extension cords or outlets with inadequate current-carrying capacity.
    • Store the appliance indoors in a cool, dry area.

Maintenance Features:

  • Nozzle Cleaning Instructions: If a marked decrease in steam output is noticed, it may be due to mineral deposit buildup in the nozzle orifice.
    1. Unplug the steam cleaner from the wall outlet.
    2. Use a small diameter stiff metal wire (e.g., a straightened paperclip) to carefully insert into the nozzle orifice.
    3. Move the wire back and forth several times to remove any deposits.
    4. Reconnect the appliance, switch it on, and check the steam output.
    5. Repeat if performance does not improve.
  • Regular Cleaning: For constant efficiency, remember to clean all accessories and the steam supply nozzles regularly.
  • Water Tank Drainage: It is recommended to drain the water tank after every use.
  • Storage: Let the system cool completely before putting it away. Use the "Cord Storage Hooks" for the power cord.
