Do you have a question about the Everwarm EW18NM and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Everwarm Yellow Flame Dual Burner Chassis is an unvented gas-fired heater designed for supplemental heating in residential settings. It is available in several models, including EW18NM, EW18NV, EW18PM, EW18PV, EW24NM, EW24NV, EW24PM, and EW24PV, catering to both natural gas and LP/Propane fuel types. The appliance is intended for installation in aftermarket, permanently located, manufactured (mobile) homes, provided local codes do not prohibit such installations. It is crucial to use only the type of gas indicated on the rating plate, as the appliance is not convertible for use with other gases.

Function Description

The primary function of the Everwarm Yellow Flame Dual Burner Chassis is to provide heat by burning gas. As an unvented heater, it draws air (oxygen) from the room where it is installed for combustion. The heater is equipped with a dual burner system designed to produce a yellow flame pattern, mimicking the appearance of a traditional fireplace. Ignition is electronic piezo, ensuring reliable startup. The appliance is designed for supplemental heat, meaning it should not be used as the primary heat source for an entire house. It produces water vapor as a byproduct of gas combustion, which can enhance low humidity atmospheres during cold weather in most supplemental heat applications.

All models feature electronic piezo ignition. The appliance is equipped with an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) safety shutoff system, which turns off the heater if not enough fresh air is available.

Usage Features

  • Installation: Installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency, or the gas supplier. Adequate combustion and ventilation air must be provided, as detailed in the "Air For Combustion and Ventilation" section of the manual. Clearances to combustible materials, including mantels and flooring, must be strictly observed. If minimum clearances are not met, the heater may need to be operated with the chimney flue damper open, or a fireplace hood accessory may be required.
  • Gas Connection: A qualified service technician must connect the heater to the gas supply, following all local codes. An external regulator (supplied by the installer) is required for LP/Propane models. A sediment trap must be installed in the supply line to prevent moisture and contaminants from entering the heater.
  • Operation: Before initial operation, it is recommended to run the heater at the highest setting for two to three hours with maximum ventilation (windows or doors open) to dissipate any manufacturing odors. The appliance must not be used with glass doors in the closed position; glass doors should always be fully open during operation to prevent pilot outages and severe sooting.
  • Safety Precautions: Users are warned against storing or using flammable vapors and liquids near the appliance. In case of a gas smell, do not attempt to light any appliance, touch electrical switches, or use a phone in the building. Instead, immediately call the gas supplier or fire department. The appliance should not be used if any part has been under water.
  • Battery Instructions: The ignitor requires one AAA battery. Remote control systems may require two or three AAA batteries for the remote control unit and four AA batteries for the remote receiver. Batteries should be installed with correct polarity, and old and new batteries or different brands should not be mixed. For long periods of non-operation, batteries should be removed from all components.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Cleaning: Control areas, burners, and circulating air passageways must be kept clean. These areas should be inspected before each use, and a qualified service technician should inspect the heater yearly. More frequent cleaning may be necessary in environments with excessive lint from carpeting, bedding material, or pet hair.
  • Air Inlet Holes: The primary air inlet holes, which mix air with gas for a clean burning flame, must be kept clear of dust, dirt, and lint. They should be cleaned prior to each heating season, or every 2500 hours of operation (every three months). Blocked air holes can cause soot. Compressed air (no greater than 30 PSI) or a vacuum cleaner on the blow position can be used for cleaning.
  • Burner Tube and Pilot Assembly: These parts should also be kept free of dust and dirt. Compressed air can be used to blow air through the ports/slots and holes in the burner, and into the primary air holes on the injector holder. The pilot assembly's air inlet hole should also be lightly blown through to prevent a yellow tip on the pilot flame, which indicates dust and dirt.
  • Main Burner: Periodically inspect all burner flame holes while the heater is running. All slot burner flame holes should exhibit a yellow flame, and all round burner flame holes should have a small blue flame. Blocked flame holes (due to debris or rust) should be cleared after turning off and cooling the heater, as they can cause soot.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the ignitor button not sparking, ODS/pilot lights going out, burner(s) not lighting, delayed ignition, burner backfiring, and unwanted odors. It also addresses issues like white powder residue, clicking/ticking noises, and the heater shutting off due to ODS operation.
  • Replacement Parts: Only original replacement parts should be used to maintain warranty coverage. Customer service can be contacted for referral information, and users should have their name, address, model and serial number, description of malfunction, gas type, and purchase date ready when calling.
