What to do if my Excalibur Water Systems EWS SPREF32 Water softener control valve does not regenerate automatically?
    • J
      John GrahamAug 22, 2025
If your control valve doesn't regenerate automatically, it could be due to several reasons. The bypass valve might be in the bypass position, the meter might not be connected to the PC board, or the meter turbine could be restricted. Incorrect programming, a loose meter wire, a defective meter, or a defective PC board can also be the cause. To resolve this, turn the bypass handles to the service position, connect the meter to the PC board, remove the meter to check for rotation, check for programming errors, verify the meter cable wires are securely installed, or replace the meter or PC board.

What to do if my Excalibur Water Systems Water softener PC board does not display correct time of day?
    • J
      Joseph MckayAug 25, 2025
If the PC board isn't displaying the correct time, it could be due to a few reasons. The power adapter might be plugged into an outlet controlled by a light switch, the breaker switch might be tripped, or there could have been a power outage. A defective PC board could also be the culprit. To fix this, use an uninterrupted outlet, reset the breaker switch, reset the time of day, or replace the PC board.

How to fix excessive water in the regenerant tank of my Excalibur Water Systems Water softener?
    • L
      Lisa CobbAug 27, 2025
Excessive water in the regenerant tank can stem from improper program settings, a plugged injector, a drive cap assembly that isn't tightened properly, a damaged seal/stack assembly, a restricted or kinked drain line, a plugged backwash flow controller, or a missing refill flow controller. To resolve this, check the refill setting, remove and clean or replace the injector, re-tighten the drive cap assembly, replace the seal/stack, check the drain line for restrictions or un-kink it, remove and clean or replace the backwash flow controller, or replace the refill flow controller.

What causes my Excalibur Water Systems EWS SPREF32 Water softener to use too much regenerant?
    • B
      Brian AcostaAug 28, 2025
If your control valve is using too much regenerant, it could be due to an improper refill setting, incorrect program settings, or frequent regeneration of the control valve. Check the refill setting, ensure the program settings are specific to your water quality and application needs, and check for leaking fixtures or an undersized system.

What to do if my Excalibur Water Systems EWS SPREF32 control valve fails to draw in regenerant?
    • E
      Eric McconnellAug 30, 2025
If the control valve isn't drawing in regenerant, the injector might be plugged, the regenerant piston could be faulty, there might be a leak in the regenerant line connection, the drain line could be restricted, or the drain line might be too long or high. Low water pressure could also be the cause. Try removing and cleaning the injector, replacing the regenerant piston, inspecting the regenerant line for leaks, inspecting and cleaning the drain line, shortening the drain line, or checking the incoming water pressure to ensure it's at least 25 psi.

What does it mean if the time of day flashes on and off on my Excalibur Water Systems EWS SPREF32 Water softener?
    • E
      emillerSep 1, 2025
If the time of day is flashing, it indicates a power outage. Reset the time of day. If the PC Board has battery back up present the battery may be depleted. See Front Cover and Drive Assembly drawing for instructions.

What does E2, Err – 1002, Err – 102 error mean on Excalibur Water Systems EWS SPREF32 Water softener?
    • M
      Marcus GrahamSep 2, 2025
This error indicates that the control valve motor ran too short and was unable to find the next cycle position and stalled. This can be caused by foreign material lodged in the control valve, mechanical binding, a main drive gear that's too tight, or improper voltage being delivered to the PC Board. To fix this, open up the control valve and inspect the piston and seal/stack assembly, check the piston, seal/stack assembly, reduction gears, drive bracket, and main drive gear interface, loosen the main drive gear, or verify that proper voltage is being supplied. After these steps, press NEXT and REGEN buttons for 3 seconds to resynchronize software with piston position or disconnect power supply from PC Board for 5 seconds and then reconnect.

What does E3, Err – 1003, Err – 103 error mean on Excalibur Water Systems Water softener?
    • D
      David WrightSep 4, 2025
This error means the control valve motor ran too long and couldn't find the next cycle position. This can happen due to motor failure during regeneration, foreign matter buildup on the piston and stack assemblies, or the drive bracket not being properly snapped in. To resolve this, check motor connections, replace the piston and stack assemblies, or properly snap in the drive bracket. After these steps, press NEXT and REGEN buttons for 3 seconds to resynchronize software with piston position or disconnect power supply from PC Board for 5 seconds and then reconnect.

Why is my Excalibur Water Systems EWS SPREF32 display not indicating water flow?
    • S
      Samantha PerezSep 6, 2025
If the display isn't showing water flow, the bypass valve might be in the bypass position, the meter might not be connected to the PC board, the meter turbine could be restricted, the meter wire might not be securely installed, the meter could be defective, or the PC board itself might be defective. Turn the bypass handles to the service position, connect the meter to the PC board, remove the meter to check for rotation, verify the meter cable wires are securely installed, or replace the meter or PC board.

What does Err – 1004, Err – 104 error mean on Excalibur Water Systems Water softener?
    • R
      Robert HarveySep 8, 2025
This error indicates that the control valve motor ran too long and timed out while trying to reach the home position. This can be caused by the drive bracket not being snapped in properly. To fix this, snap the drive bracket in properly. Then, press the NEXT and REGEN buttons for 3 seconds to resynchronize the software with the piston position, or disconnect the power supply from the PC Board for 5 seconds and then reconnect it.
