Overview

This document describes the Expert Grill Portable Charcoal Rotisserie (BC2051AO), an outdoor cooking appliance designed for residential use. It functions as a charcoal grill with an integrated rotisserie system, allowing for both direct and indirect cooking methods.

Function Description:

The primary function of this device is to cook food using charcoal as a fuel source. It features a rotisserie system that allows for slow, even cooking of meats and poultry, up to 22 lbs. The rotisserie motor can be powered by either a power adapter or two 1.5V D-size batteries (not included), offering flexibility in placement. The grill includes a charcoal grid for holding fuel and a cooking grid for placing food. Wind deflectors are integrated to help maintain consistent cooking temperatures. Air dampers are provided to control airflow, which in turn regulates the heat of the coals. A grate lifter is included, which can also function as a wrench for assembly. The design emphasizes outdoor use only, with strict warnings against indoor operation or use in enclosed spaces due to the risk of toxic fumes.

Usage Features:

The grill is designed for ease of assembly and operation, with a typical assembly time of approximately 30 minutes. Users are instructed to secure all parts tightly but without overtightening to prevent damage. Before first use, all labels, packaging, and protective films must be removed, and the grill should be "heat cleaned" for at least 15 minutes to burn off manufacturing oils and dissipate odors.

For lighting, users must remove the cooking grid, arrange charcoal briquettes or other recommended fuel on the charcoal grid, and light them according to the fuel package instructions. It is crucial to allow the fuel to become glowing coals before cooking. The manual explicitly warns against using charcoal pre-treated with lighter fluid and recommends only high-grade plain charcoal, charcoal/wood mixture, or lump charcoal. Liquid starters should be used with caution, ensuring the bottom bowl and ash receiver are checked for fluid accumulation before lighting to prevent fires. Adding lighting fluid to hot or warm coals is strictly prohibited due to flashback risk.

The rotisserie operation involves installing the motor onto its bracket, ensuring it's turned "OFF." One fork is placed on the spit rod with prongs facing away from the handle, followed by skewering the meat and sliding it to the center of the rod. A second fork is then placed against the meat, and both forks are tightened securely. Users are advised to check the balance of the food on the rod by rotating it loosely in their hands; it should rotate evenly with little effort. Once balanced, the loaded spit rod is placed into the motor assembly and support bracket, and the motor is turned "ON." Protective oven mitts/gloves are mandatory when handling the hot spit rod and forks. After cooking, the motor is turned "OFF," and the spit rod is removed using protective gloves.

For direct cooking, hot coals are spread evenly across the charcoal grid, and food is placed on the cooking grids directly above. This method is suitable for searing and grilling foods requiring less than 25 minutes of cooking time. Indirect cooking involves spreading hot coals to the outsides of the charcoal grid, with food placed on the cooking grids above the areas without hot coals. This method is ideal for slow cooking and grilling larger items or foods requiring more than 25 minutes.

Controlling flare-ups is an important aspect of grilling. Users are advised to trim excess fat from meats, cook high-fat content meats indirectly, ensure the grill is on a hard, level, non-combustible surface, and separate charcoal to reduce grease fires, especially when using the rotisserie. In the event of a grease fire, water should never be used; instead, a type BC dry chemical fire extinguisher, dirt, sand, or baking soda should be used to smother the flames.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning and inspection are essential for the safe and prolonged use of the grill. All cleaning and maintenance should be performed when the grill is cool and with ashes properly disposed of. Abrasive cleaners and oven cleaners are explicitly warned against, as they can damage the product's finish.

Before each use, the grill area must be kept clear of combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable liquids. Air vents should be checked for debris and ash.

For cleaning surfaces, the grill must be allowed to cool completely. Surfaces can be wiped clean with a mild dishwashing detergent or baking soda mixed with water. Stubborn stains may require a citrus-based degreaser and a nylon scrubbing brush. After cleaning, surfaces should be rinsed with water and allowed to air dry.

Before storing, the grill must be fully cooled and all surfaces cleaned. If storing indoors, the grill should be covered and placed in a cool, dry location. For outdoor storage, a grill cover is recommended to protect it from weather damage.

The rotisserie motor requires specific care: it must be turned "OFF" and unplugged from the outlet, with batteries removed, before cleaning. The motor or cord should never be immersed in water to prevent electrical shock. The rotisserie motor should not be operated with a damaged cord or plug, or if it malfunctions.
