Overview

The EZ OUTDOOR Tankless Water Heater is a gas-fired appliance designed for continuous hot water supply in outdoor, well-ventilated areas. It is suitable for various domestic washing duties, including bathing, showering, hand washing, and clothes washing. The unit is specifically designed for outdoor mounting and installation in warm, no-freeze climates, saving indoor space. It is rain-proof but not designed to be submerged in floodwater.

Function Description:

The EZ OUTDOOR heater utilizes a microprocessor advanced intelligence system to automatically adjust internal parameters based on ambient air temperature, water pressure, gas flow, and incoming water temperature. A high-precision water flow sensor ensures consistent water temperature. The gas control valve is also microprocessor-controlled, optimizing gas supply in conjunction with the fan motor speed for proper combustion mixture and maximum efficiency. This forced-air system enhances the heat exchanger's performance compared to non-fan forced models. It features a low water pressure start-up, making it suitable for areas with lower water pressure. The memory system restarts the heater with previously selected settings after a power failure. The unit includes a self-diagnostic system that checks safety devices, the fan, and the gas valve, displaying malfunction codes if issues are detected.

  • Connections:
    • GAS: USA ½ inch pipe thread
    • Water: USA ½ inch pipe thread (3/4 inch adapters included - Qty. 2)

Usage Features:

  • Installation: Must be installed outdoors in a well-ventilated area, at least five feet from any window or door opening to prevent exhaust gases from entering the dwelling. It is crucial to ensure the gas type matches the heater model (LP or NG). Installation must be performed by a qualified professional according to local safety codes.
  • Remote Control: The unit is operated via a remote control, which must be installed indoors in a convenient location. The supplied 30-foot control cable connects to the bottom of the heater. The controller code is factory pre-set at 50°C (122°F). The remote control is essential for correct operation; failure to use it may damage the heater, void the warranty, and pose scalding risks.
  • Start-up Procedure:
    1. Open the water inlet valve.
    2. Open a hot water faucet.
    3. Insert the electrical power supply plug into a properly wired and grounded three-prong outdoor waterproof outlet (no extension cords).
    4. Open the gas valve completely.
    5. Press the on-off button on the controller to turn on the display.
    6. Set the desired water temperature using the up and down temperature keys.
    7. The heater will begin operation and deliver hot water after a few seconds, indicated by the combustion icon illuminating.
  • Safety Features:
    • Waterproof wiring and controls for longer operation.
    • Six high-efficiency technologies.
    • Advanced intelligence for wind-air pressure and downdraft detection.
    • AI Intelligent Memory function.
    • Self-adjusting fan motor.
    • Twelve safety precaution-protection systems, including flame-out protection, exhaust pressure self-diagnosis, overheating protection, combustion mixture, and anti-freeze protection.
    • Self-diagnostic system displays malfunction codes for troubleshooting.
    • Automatic shutdown when the hot water faucet is turned off.
    • In case of power failure, the heater shuts down safely and restarts upon power return.
    • A self-protection mode prevents the heater from turning on if a faucet is opened while unplugged; it requires closing and reopening the faucet after plugging in.
  • Operational Notes:
    • Water temperature may be slightly lower than the setting due to pipe length and ambient air temperature.
    • If water flow exceeds the maximum GPM rating, the heater may not produce sufficient hot water, and the temperature will drop.
    • If the gas supply is interrupted, it may take several ignition attempts to purge air from the gas line.
    • Always test water temperature with hands before immersing the body to prevent scalding.
    • It is recommended to turn off the controller button when leaving for long periods (e.g., vacation) to prevent the heater from turning on if a pipe bursts.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Checks:
    • Frequently check gas and water lines for leaks.
    • Clean the inlet water line filter.
    • Inspect the vent frequently for nests and debris, especially after long periods of disuse.
  • Cleaning:
    • Keep the cover and heater clean.
    • If a smoking condition due to a poor burn occurs, the unit should be cleaned internally by a professional technician.
  • Scale Prevention: To prevent scale build-up, the heater should be flushed at least once per year. Filtering incoming water to reduce hardness and impurities will extend the heater's life.
  • Freezing Prevention: Never install the heater in a place that can freeze. In anticipation of freezing, turn off the heater, completely drain it, and disconnect it. For seasonal use, drain and store indoors. To drain, shut off the power, turn off the water supply, and open both hot and cold sides of the heater, blowing air through the pipes to ensure complete drainage.

Safety Precautions:

  • Outdoor Use Only: This heater is strictly for outdoor use; indoor installation is forbidden due to the absence of an exhaust pipe and the risk of carbon monoxide accumulation.
  • Flammable Materials: Keep flammable materials (pine needles, dry grasses, rags, paper, etc.) away from the heater.
  • Mounting: Mount the heater away from small children and animals. The exhaust opening can reach high temperatures.
  • Gas Leaks: Always check for gas leakage. A professional should check all connections after installation and periodically thereafter.
  • Gas Regulator: For LP/LPG users, an unstable flame may indicate a malfunction of the gas regulator valve at the storage tank; stop use immediately and contact a professional. For NG users, unstable gas pressure can cause an unstable flame; stop use immediately and contact a professional.
  • Tank Handling (LPG): Never tilt or invert the LPG tank. Use only a national standard type of regulator valve.
  • Low Gas (LPG): When the LPG tank runs low, carbonization can occur in the combustion chamber, causing the flame to turn yellow, smoke from the exhaust, and increased carbon monoxide production. Shut down the heater and refill the tank.
  • Abnormal Operation: In case of abnormal burn (backfire, flame-out, yellow flame, black smoke, unusual smell, noise), shut down the heater and contact a service professional.
  • Electrical Connection: Plug into a high-quality, outdoor, waterproof, properly wired, and grounded three-prong outlet. A ground-fault protected plug is recommended. Do not use an extension cord.
  • Water Connections: Water inlet and outlets should have in-line shut-off valves for isolation during maintenance or removal. Special tankless heater service-valve sets are recommended.
  • Vertical Installation: The heater must be installed vertically.
  • No Modifications: Do not attempt to install a vent hood or exhaust fan above this heater, and do not modify the heater in any way.
