The Farberware Deep Fryer with Oil Filtration is a household appliance designed for frying various foods such as French fries, chicken pieces, and fish. It features an integrated oil filtration system for convenient oil management and reuse.
Function Description
The primary function of this deep fryer is to heat cooking oil to a desired temperature for deep-frying food. It is equipped with an immersion heater that quickly brings the oil to temperature, indicated by a POWER (blue) light turning on during heating and a READY (green) light illuminating once the set temperature is reached. The appliance allows for temperature control via a Temperature Control Knob, offering a range of settings to accommodate different food types and desired crispness.
A key feature of this deep fryer is its integrated oil filtration system. After cooking, once the oil has cooled, the user can turn the Oil Filtration Control Knob to the "FILTER OIL" position. This action initiates the process of draining and filtering the oil into a dedicated Oil Container, which is housed within the appliance. The Oil Filter Cover ensures that food residues are separated from the oil during filtration, allowing for cleaner oil storage and reuse. This system helps prolong the life of the cooking oil and reduces waste.
The deep fryer is designed with safety in mind. It includes a Safety Switch located on the Control Panel Assembly, which prevents the appliance from operating if the Control Panel Assembly is not properly seated. A magnetic plug is used for the power cord, designed to detach easily in case of accidental tugging, further enhancing safety. The appliance also features a Silicon Rubber Sealing Plate to prevent hot steam from escaping from under the lid during operation.
Usage Features
To use the deep fryer, the user first needs to assemble the Basket Handle to the Frying Basket by pressing the bars together and sliding them into the slots, ensuring the ends are inserted into the bracket and the handle is pushed backward. The Oil Reservoir, with its Oil Filter Cover, must be correctly positioned within the housing, and the Control Panel Assembly needs to be securely placed on the back of the Housing, aligning its grooves with the guides.
Once assembled, cooking oil is poured into the Oil Reservoir, ensuring the oil level remains between the MIN (1.9L) and MAX (3L) markings. It is crucial not to overfill or underfill the reservoir. The Oil Filtration Control Knob should be in the "LOCK" position before adding oil. A small amount of oil can be spread on the inside of the View Window on the lid to prevent condensation during cooking.
The appliance is then plugged into a dedicated 120V ~ 60Hz wall outlet using the magnetic power cord, ensuring the "THIS SIDE UP" side of the magnetic plug faces up. The Temperature Control Knob is set to the desired temperature. Once the READY light illuminates, indicating the oil has reached the set temperature, the lid can be removed.
Food should be placed into the Frying Basket without overfilling it (not more than half-way) to prevent excessive foaming and potential oil overflow. It is important to ensure food is dry, especially frozen items, to avoid severe splattering of hot oil. The Frying Basket is then slowly lowered into the hot oil. For fresh-cut potatoes or high-moisture foods, the basket should be lowered gradually, raising it for a few seconds if the oil boils or foams too rapidly, until it can be fully immersed without excessive foaming. The lid should be placed back on the appliance immediately after immersing the basket to contain any splashing.
After the recommended frying time, the lid is removed, and the Frying Basket is lifted out and hooked onto the rim of the Oil Reservoir to allow excess oil to drain. The food can then be transferred to a heat-resistant dish lined with paper towels to absorb any remaining oil.
Maintenance Features
Proper maintenance is essential for the longevity and safe operation of the deep fryer. After each use, and before cleaning, the appliance must be turned off by setting the Temperature Control Knob to "0," unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet, and then removing the magnetic plug from the Control Panel Assembly. It is critical to allow all parts to cool down completely for at least 4 hours before handling or cleaning, especially before draining or filtering oil, to prevent burns and damage to the fryer.
For cleaning, the Frying Basket handle is removed from the basket. The Control Panel Assembly and Immersion Heater should be carefully wiped with a damp cloth; these parts should never be immersed in water or other liquids. The Oil Filter Cover is pulled from the Oil Reservoir, and the Oil Reservoir is removed from the housing. The lid's filter cover can be opened to remove both the Charcoal Odor Filter and the White Grease Filter.
The Lid, Frying Basket, Basket Handle, Oil Reservoir, and Oil Filter Cover can be washed with hot soapy water or in a dishwasher. The Charcoal Odor Filter and White Grease Filter should be cleaned every 3 months or after every 12 uses with hot soapy water, but not in a dishwasher. All parts must be thoroughly rinsed and dried completely before reassembly or storage to prevent water from causing severe splattering of hot oil during future use.
The Oil Container, if cleaned, must be empty first and can be washed with hot soapy water or in a dishwasher. After filtering oil, the Oil Filtration Control Knob should be turned to the "LOCK" position if the container remains inside the appliance, or "UNLOCK" if it needs to be removed. When emptying the Oil Container, the cap on top is unscrewed, and the filtered oil is slowly poured into a suitable storage container or back into the Oil Reservoir if reusing immediately. The Oil Container should be tilted gradually to avoid leaks.
Used cooking oil, once filtered, can be stored in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. It is generally recommended to change the oil after every 10 uses, or sooner if it shows signs of deterioration (rancid smell, darkened color, excessive foaming, or smoke at normal operating temperatures). Different cooking oils should not be mixed, and oil used for strongly flavored foods like fish should not be reused. Regular removal of burnt food particles during frying also contributes to oil quality.
