Overview

The Feit Electric Dual Head Motion Security Flood Light is an outdoor lighting fixture designed to provide security and illumination through motion detection and dusk-to-dawn functionality. This device is intended for permanent installation and requires connection to a standard electrical circuit.

Function Description

The primary function of this flood light is to illuminate an area when motion is detected, enhancing security and visibility. It features two adjustable light heads, allowing users to direct illumination to specific areas. The integrated motion sensor is capable of detecting movement within a specified range, triggering the lights to turn on.

In addition to motion detection, the fixture incorporates a dusk-to-dawn (D2D) sensor. This sensor automatically controls the light based on ambient light levels. When set to D2D mode, the lights will turn on at dusk and remain on until dawn, regardless of motion. This feature is particularly useful for continuous ambient lighting during nighttime hours.

The device offers a "Test" mode for initial setup and sensitivity adjustment. In this mode, the lights will activate for a short duration (approximately 5 seconds) whenever motion is detected, regardless of the time of day. This allows installers to verify the sensor's coverage and sensitivity settings efficiently.

The motion sensor's sensitivity can be adjusted to prevent false triggers from minor movements or distant objects. Users can fine-tune this setting to ensure the light only activates for relevant motion within the desired area.

A timer function is also included, which dictates how long the lights remain on after motion is detected when not in D2D mode. This timer can be adjusted from approximately 1 minute to 10 minutes, providing flexibility in how long the area remains illuminated after an event.

The fixture also includes a manual override function. After a brief "warm-up" period, the sensor enters "AUTO MODE." By quickly toggling the main power switch OFF and then ON, the fixture can be switched to "MANUAL MODE," where the lights will remain ON continuously for 8 hours, overriding the motion and timer settings. Another toggle of the main switch (OFF for over 30 seconds, then ON) will reset the PIR sensor and return it to the "warm-up" period.

Usage Features

Installation of the flood light involves mounting it to either an external or internal flush J-box. The process includes securing a mounting bar, connecting electrical wires (ground, line, and neutral) to a terminal block, and then attaching the fixture body to the mounting plate using decorative nuts and rubber washers. A silicone sealant should be applied around the base of the fixture after installation to prevent moisture ingress, ensuring long-term reliability in outdoor environments.

Once installed, the fixture's operational settings are controlled via rotary knobs located on the underside of the sensor head. These knobs allow for adjustment of the TIMER and SENSITIVITY settings.

For optimal performance, it is recommended to adjust the motion sensor's sensitivity first using the "Test" mode. This involves walking through the sensor's detection path to determine the effective range and making adjustments as needed. The sensor is designed to detect motion across its field of view (side-to-side) more effectively than motion directly towards it. Therefore, positioning the sensor head to cover the desired area for side-to-side movement is crucial. The sensor head should not be aimed at bodies of water, bushes, or traffic, as these can cause false triggers.

After setting the sensitivity, the TIMER knob can be adjusted to the desired duration (1-10 minutes) for motion-activated lighting or set to "D2D" for dusk-to-dawn operation. In D2D mode, the motion sensor is automatically disabled, and the lights will operate solely based on ambient light levels.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common issues such as lights not coming on, lights staying on during the day, or continuous cycling. These solutions often involve checking power connections, adjusting sensor aim, or covering the D2D sensor temporarily.

Maintenance Features

The Feit Electric Dual Head Motion Security Flood Light is designed for low maintenance. It utilizes LED technology, which offers a significantly longer lifespan compared to traditional incandescent bulbs, potentially lasting for 30 years or more under typical usage. This eliminates the need for frequent bulb replacements.

Periodic cleaning of the fixture and its diffuser is recommended to maintain optimal light output and sensor performance. This should be done using a mild, non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth. It is crucial to turn off the main power at the circuit breaker before cleaning to ensure safety. Cleaners should not be sprayed directly onto any part of the fixture or the LEDs.

The robust construction and sealing requirements (silicone sealant after installation) contribute to the fixture's durability in wet outdoor locations, protecting internal components from environmental elements. The product also comes with a limited warranty, providing support for defects in workmanship and materials for a specified period, further reducing long-term maintenance concerns.
