Important Safety Notes
Safety and Use Guide
Please read this guide completely before using. Improper
handling may result in product damage or an accident.
Please keep this guide for future reference.
• Check your set to ensure all products and pieces of products
are accounted for and installed correctly. Do not use if parts are
missing.
• Do not use any product if you see signs of cracking, chipping,
denting, or any other abnormality.
• Keep pour-over set away from children while brewing.
Preparation Before Use:
• Apply dish-washing detergent to a soft sponge. Wash all
products thoroughly.
Cleaning and Maintenance:
• Glasses and Dripper are all dishwasher safe.
• For handwashing products, use only dish washing detergent.
Do not use chlorine, bleach, or other chemicals to clean
products. Let air or towel dry thoroughly.
• Using a coarse sponge, brush, or other rough surface will
scratch the finish of Dripper and the surface of the glassware.
Use only a soft sponge.
• If any sign of corrosion is discovered in Dripper, apply some
compounding polish on a soft sponge and rub inside product.
Rinse thoroughly afterwards.
Stagg Tasting Glass Use Guide:
• Please pay attention when setting on hard surfaces. Products
will chip or crack if not set down with care.
• Glassware not microwave safe.
• Using a metal spoon in glassware may cause inner wall
to break.
• Placing ice in glassware before liquid may cause inner wall
to break.
• Do not use if there are any cracks or scratches, as glass may
break unexpectedly.
• Do not overfill glass past 10 oz.
• Do not let children use glass products.
Stagg Dripper Use Guide:
• Take care when removing gasket from dripper. Dripper has a
sharp, functional edge to hold gasket in place.
• Although other filters will work with Stagg [x] Dripper, we
recommend using Stagg [x] Pour-Over Filters with Stagg [x].
• Do not use Dripper to extract/steep/brew anything other
than coffee.
• To dispose of filter, flip upside down into compost bin to let
used filter and coffee fall out.
• When brewing with hot water, edges of Dripper may become
hot. Please use with caution when handling. If Dripper feels too
hot, use an oven mitt to handle.
• While brewing, the contents and Dripper will be hot. Use
caution placing the Dripper on top of mugs or serving carafes as
there is a risk of Dripper falling over and causing burn injury.

Overview

The Stagg [x] Pour-Over Set is a coffee brewing system designed for precision and quality in home coffee preparation. It includes a Stagg Dripper and Tasting Glasses, which are compatible with top-rack dishwashers for easy cleaning. The set is explicitly not to be used with microwaves, ovens, or stovetops.

Function Description:

The Stagg [x] Pour-Over Set facilitates the manual pour-over coffee brewing method, allowing users to control key variables for optimal extraction. The process involves precise water temperature, specific coffee-to-water ratios, and a controlled pouring technique, including a "bloom" phase, to achieve a "Pour-Over Perfected" cup. The dripper is designed to hold a filter and ground coffee, allowing hot water to pass through and extract the coffee into a serving vessel, such as the accompanying tasting glasses.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Compatibility: Stagg Dripper and Tasting Glasses are top-rack dishwasher safe.
  • Capacity (Tasting Glass): Do not overfill past 10 oz.
  • Recommended Brew Temperature: 195-205°F (using a Stagg Kettle with a thermometer).
  • Coffee Grind: Medium coarseness.
  • Ratio Aid: Included for measuring coffee (single dot for 20g).
  • Brewing Ratios:
    • Single Serving: 10 ounces water, 20 grams coffee.
    • Double Serving: 20 ounces water, 40 grams coffee.
  • Bloom Phase: Approximately 40 grams of water (or 2 times the amount of coffee used) for 30 seconds.
  • Pouring Time: An additional 2:30-3 minutes after the bloom phase.
  • Dripper Design: Features a sharp, functional edge to hold the gasket in place.

Usage Features:

  • Preparation Before Use: All products should be thoroughly washed with dish-washing detergent and a soft sponge.
  • Water Temperature Control: Users are instructed to fill a Stagg Kettle (sold separately) and heat water to the recommended brew range of 195-205°F, monitoring with a thermometer.
  • Ratio Measurement: The set includes a ratio aid to help measure the correct amount of coffee grounds. For a single serving, 20 grams of coffee (indicated by the single dot on the ratio aid) is recommended.
  • Grind Consistency: Coffee should be ground to a medium coarseness.
  • Dripper Preparation: A filter is placed in the dripper, wet with hot water to pre-warm the dripper and remove any paper taste from the filter. The tasting glass is also pre-warmed and then emptied.
  • Coffee Bed Flattening: After adding coffee grounds to the dripper using the ratio aid funnel, the dripper should be lightly shaken to flatten the coffee bed.
  • The Bloom: The initial pour involves pouring about 40 grams of water (twice the coffee amount) at the center of the dripper, working outwards, and then waiting 30 seconds for the coffee to "bloom" and release CO2.
  • The Perfect Pour: Following the bloom, pouring continues evenly from the center outwards in a circular path for an additional 2:30-3 minutes, until the coffee level reaches 10 oz or the double-to-single wall connection line on the Stagg Tasting Glass. The dripper is then placed on the ratio aid to catch drips.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always check for missing parts, cracks, chips, dents, or abnormalities before use.
    • Keep the pour-over set away from children during brewing.
    • When brewing with hot water, the dripper's edges can become hot; use caution or an oven mitt if necessary.
    • Be cautious when placing the dripper on mugs or carafes to prevent it from falling over and causing burns.
    • Tasting glasses should be handled with care on hard surfaces to prevent chipping or cracking.
    • Do not use metal spoons in glassware, as this may cause the inner wall to break.
    • Avoid placing ice in glassware before liquid, as this may also cause the inner wall to break.
    • Do not use glassware with cracks or scratches, as it may break unexpectedly.
    • Do not let children use glass products.
    • Take care when removing the gasket from the dripper due to its sharp edge.
    • Only use the dripper for extracting/steeping/brewing coffee.
    • To dispose of filters, flip the dripper upside down into a compost bin to release the used filter and coffee.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Both glasses and the dripper are dishwasher safe (top rack). For handwashing, use only dish-washing detergent and a soft sponge.
  • Chemical Avoidance: Do not use chlorine, bleach, or other harsh chemicals for cleaning.
  • Drying: Allow products to air dry or towel dry thoroughly.
  • Surface Protection: Avoid using coarse sponges, brushes, or rough surfaces, as these can scratch the finish of the dripper and the glassware. Always use a soft sponge.
  • Corrosion Treatment: If corrosion is discovered in the dripper, apply compounding polish with a soft sponge, rub inside the product, and rinse thoroughly.
  • Filter Recommendation: While other filters may work, the manufacturer recommends using Stagg [x] Pour-Over Filters with Stagg [x] Dripper for optimal performance.
